Is it really that hard to learn the new mechanics between Aetherochemical Research Facility and Alex without a grind? I can hardly think of a job that gets its gameplay flipped on it's head immediately after completing their final job quest. After getting as far as this in the game, even people who entered FFXIV as total gaming scrubs should be equipped with the knowledge to grasp their final ability quicker than that. Not to mention that the only other dungeons remaining are the Fractal Continuum and Neverreap while everything else is lower and way further off the track forward. A law grind isn't going to encourage people to play the now-obsolete hard and savage mode dungeons.
I do think one of two things should happen. Either materia should modify an items level, or the iLvl requirement should take a slight drop. At i165 you'd still need a decent amount of Law anyway. It would be ridiculously troublesome to get materia into every equipment slot and surpass i165 compared to mixing that with Law items.
Unfortunately, there's no simple way to gauge a players competence, but if there was, iLvl requirements would be a fair bit lower for some players.
Just equip the law jewelry to enter the fight, then when in there, switch back to your pentamelded i150. Super easy, this already has a workaround.
i170 requirement is good where it is.
If entry requirements are reduced, the chances of clearing via Duty Finder become less. You will more likely find people with basic gear joining rather than those with melded accessories.
Maybe they could increase the item level of melded gear, such as +2 for each meld, so that an i150 accessory with 5 melds would be regarded as i160 by the system and grant you entry?
"Basic gear"? With a 5 ilvl less requirement? To get in with i165, they still have to have almost all law with exception of 3 pieces which can be as low as i150. There's nothing to stop someone wearing "All Class" i150 gear along with several pieces of say i200 gear and still get in. Item level itself just isn't representative of the gear power of the character it's on. I just think its silly to make the requirement "full law gear". Make materia adjust ilvl, or don't center requirement around *one set* of gear.
After hitting the enrage 3 times with a blm who had a mix of 160 and 180 gear with a 160 weapon, who barely met the minimum ilvl, I'd prefer they keep it at 170. While mechanically easy these fights still have an enrage. The current ilvl doesn't require hunts or extraneous grind besides minimal farming for law.
Equip higher iLvl accessory, swap to crafted when inside.
