Is Perpetual Ray classified as magic damage?

Well there is truth in what he says, if you have to tank swap in A4 normal then your tanks will have a lot of issues in savage. Also you shouldn't have to rely on tank DPS in A4 (it is very easy to kill in full ilvl 170 and you overgear the floor at i180, and it drops I190).

This is sort of true, in that tank swapping is the best way to mitigate Perpetual Ray. I wrote up a CD rotation for DRK/WAR (can be mimicked with PLD/WAR) a bit ago that mitigates up to 6 sets:

NM you can pretty much solo tank him (as Realchucky said) due to the fact that you'll only see 2~3 Rays and the damage won't be that high. In Savage I'd recommend using the tank swap method to make the hits a lot easier to deal with.

e: Also I'm a full STR WAR, have had no problems with Perpetual Ray (or any of the damage) in NM. I think the fault doesn't lie in the accessories... ;V

Just solo tank him with a DRK

1) DA Dark Mind + Shadowskin
2) DA Dark Mind + Shadow Wall
3) DA Dark Mind + Shadowskin

Enjoy 50% to 60% reduction on every tank buster.

WAR's tank stance increases HP pool instead of defense, so a WAR with the same amount of HP as a PLD in VIT gear is 20% squishier, in addition to the lack of defensive cooldowns. It can be healed through, but you're basically asking other people (especially the healers, in a fight where they have much more to worry about than just you) to cover for your own inability to fulfill the primary duty of a tank, which is to take hits other Jobs can't.

I was taking a jab at how they couldn't survive a single Perpetual Ray. The tank swap happened when the other "tank" was tanking the floor. And I personally vouch for the skill of the healers, and even they couldn't keep them up.

For PLD

First, rampart + foresight
Second, sentinel + convalescence
Third, hallowed ground
Fourth, if it gets this far, gg or tank swap.

Lack... of... defensive... what?

IB for every Perpetual Ray + either Vengeance or Thrill + Conv, Equilibrium for every Perpetual Ray, Second Wind for every other Perpetual Ray, IB for soaking balls... you can even double IB for every Perpetual Ray if you want. A PLD should be tanking this fight in full STR too... the hardest hitting things should be mitigated and regardless of how much HP you have, you'll be taking the same amount of damage...

Hybrid gear for DF because people are terrible at this game. Str gear when running with your friends because they aren't dumb. Vit gear when I want to impress myself cuz war hp is cray.

I died in str gear too. Then I learned when the stupid attack happens to pop CDs for it. Haven't died to it since. If your tanks die it's because they don't know when to pop CDs, or heals can't keep up

The problem, especially in DF, is that most WAR players I've seen simply skip to that last assumption without considering their own role, and thus never get any better. I have no doubt that skilled WAR players can pull it off, but most, unfortunately, aren't that good and simply think their job is to DPS.

I was speaking generally, but yeah in A4 specifically I solo tank the last phase and wear full vit because I KNOW theres a chance I may die due to a huge range of circumstances that may happen during that.

What really gets me going though is when I know a fight inside and out and can easily do it in str jewels and sometimes even w/o tank stance but the healer is on its high horse spewing ignorant non sense and not wanting a faster kill

Don't be so salty. You didn't catch the sarcasm in his post? "We had a tank swap, alright, after every Perpetual Ray..."

Get it? The tanks die so the other had to take over, a tank swap. Get it? Now go calm down and think over what wearing less defensive stats mean. You are getting carried by the healer. All you're doing is, in the name of a faster kill, offload more responsibility on the healers.

In a static that's perfectly fine. But don't do it in the DF and expect every healer to be happy.
