I find the persistent Darkside animation too big and distracting.

Speak for yourself, I think the aura looks cool. Besides, the majority of the drk skillset is reliant upon the aura being on so if I'm passing thru town to repair my gear or trade at a vendor why bother turning it off to turn it back on 5 secs later when my queue pops (tank queues lol) or for when I tele back out to the field anyways. If I'm planning on AFKing or spending an extended period of time in a town I turn it off to be courteous to people who don't like it. But tbh its really no different than BRDs who use flaming arrow in town or Derpgoons who spam Ring of Thorns (highly more annoying as it makes a stupid sound over and over)

I don't think its my intent to be annoying to anyone. I can't speak for all, but it is just something I don't think about when I leave a duty. If someone said "hey you are annoying me with that Darkside effect, can you please turn it off", then I would have no issue turning it off.

Um, it's entirely different from effects that only happen once in response to a specific action. This aura is on FULL TIME on AFK DoRKs. At least make it so that it follows the UI setting for turning off other's animations. Then, you can be all happy with your dark edginess and not be annoying everyone else.
