lol Thank you for the correction. (It was rumored a few months ago that TERA was to be $30 dollars a month) xD good thing it wasn't true.

Well, I've said this in every single "Server merges please" thread so I guess I'll say it again:
It would be an incredibly foolish move to merge/allow transfers currently.
1. Ghost towns. If you allow transfers then the low population servers will be left with no one at all. This wouldn't seem like a problem now but what PS3 players are going to want to populate a completely dead server?
2. Over population. As a result of the above the current mid/high population servers would then become full. This means that some players would not be given a chance to move to a decent population server, PS3 players would be forced to populate dead servers.
3. Merge problems. If they merge servers now but come PS3 launch the population exceeds the new server load then they must make more servers again. So then at that point they've spent money to merge them and now re-open them, not necessarily a good thing.
The logical solution (to me) would be to wait until after PS3 launch population stabilizes, then allow transfers and/or merge as necessary. If they were to do this beforehand it would be premature and just cause more problems. I'm sorry that you're on a now-low population server but you must think of the bigger picture here. If it were not for PS3 launch it wouldn't be a problem.
I personally feel that your theory is off. I have some support to this game to some extent but you have to look at the statistics. Before the search function was taken out, the population was low on most servers. Wutai has sunk deeply to a low population than what it was before. It wouldn't cause problems, it would resolve the biggest problems so people would be encouraged to come out and play.
Wouldn't it be nice if there were no boundaries between servers? I suppose there aren't enough towns and areas to accommodate everyone at the moment, but I hope one day, everyone can play in the same world regardless of the server their character data resides on. =D
Names would become a problem pretty quickly. I think SE's reluctance to merge is based more in the perceptions of it. To merge servers is to admit that you have no faith in growth - they can't afford to look that weak. Even we have certainty that a successful re-release will fill the worlds up nicely again.
On other hand I think PS3 players should by default play on empty servers.. who would want to play on our morbidly obese servers with tons of obsolete items on the market wards and whatnot? Along with people who would just stare at them rather than help them with their dungeons and everything.
i can partially see your point on this, but i do have to look at it from the other side also. i'm sure some of the people are waiting are ones that played xi on ps2 and have friends that are playing on the pc. they should have the option to join in with their friends. i have a few friends myself that are getting the game on ps3 when it releases and they want to get on the server with me. their computers just cannot handle ffxiv on their computers because they are basic home pc's and not up to anywhere near min requirements.
at the very most ps3 players should have the option to either join a pc populated server or join a ps3 only server, but do not think they should be forced either way.
As much as ya'll overly exadurate Teras "Fail", what would make that compared to XIV? Which lost half a million more than Tera and was worldwide? A Pathetic excuse for a game? What is the point in debating about it, least TERA is making money and still has more active players than XIV and is out in less countries for less time lol.
Anywho I wish I could server transfer like in XI, I want to be in a quieter server.
