/anon worked on FFXI because people would literally message certain jobs all day long to join their parties.
Not really needed in FFXIV, in my opinion.

the spam tells aren't half as bad as those silly friend request though, can't we figure out how to stop that first? :c
I noticed that you can't get more than 9 pending friend requests so i dont get any new ones but they still have to be there watching me
Because you say so? and other peoples' reasons for wanting to be anonymous mean nothing - even the concerns about the intrusive RMT tells all day long? This is what I mean - why are some so against even the idea? Is this a generational thing, the 'always on' mentality that no one is allowed even a moment's peace?
Unless they changed something after I quit, played from NA release date to 2007, /anon still showed you online, and you were still able to get friend requests, tells, LS invites etc. The reason why /anon was so needed for XI was indemand jobs such as WHMs/BLMs/RDMs/Tanks and high level crafters to get constantly spammed by randoms looking for warps, teleports, fill in spots for parties and crafting. I used this feature a lot since I mained WHM/BLM. It worked in FFXI because only friends and LS mates that knew me closely knew what my jobs where. In a game like FFXIV it would make absolutely no sense if implemented the exact same way because you would still show up on world search and still receive invites and tells.
All in all if you want to play by yourself and not be bugged set yourself to /busy and have all the people you want to contact you in your LSes or FC.
An anonymous status would be nice, can't say how often I'd use it. I've grown so accustomed to setting my status to busy for so long...
Honestly, I would love it if they had a Report & Mute function (so it doesn't clutter the blacklist & I don't need to remove names frequently). I know it would take time to implement and they probably have to find a work-around for the PS3, but it would still be nice.
/anon hid you from all searches except for explicit name searches and zone searches. Ideally here it would hide you from ALL searches, but I understand that some folks feel really strongly about other players being able to use such a feature (though I will never understand *why).
I used XI as a reference because the feature existed and no one's gameplay was negatively impacted by it - not because I felt that /anon here should be modeled precisely after it.
