As a new player, the main quest *is* rather daunting, especially with how much of it will no longer be relevant to the vast majority of players when the expansion comes out, and how there's so much instanced dungeon content required.
I expect the queue times to go through the roof for those since no one needs them anymore.
I feel kinda the same.
They were supposed to be done when you were level 10, 15, 20, 25, ... and so on.
To teach you some mechanics handling while in a party.
And giving extra exp (quite big one) for 1st time clears of each hest.
But it seems many people now just skip them altogether and when they are level 50 they realize they must do the lv40-45 one (or whatever it is) to unlock something else.
At this point the exp is worthless since you are lv50 and exp-capped, and the DPS queues can take quite long, making people frustrated.
While I do understand that for new players there is a huge amount of content to do and guildhests may not be what most people want to do (although i do like them), I think it's still the player's fault of having skipped this content entirely while it was relevant to their learning and leveling.
Due to this, in the end they got into a situation which required them to do 10 guildhests, from level 10 to 45, to keep going on whatever quest needs this unlocked, which they hate.
There is nothing there that tells you to do them, or that they'll become mandatory later.
I got the quest, did it, and it unlocked them, but not once was I told "queue for this and do it or your progression will be hardlocked".
Every other instance case, the main quest story(which is pretty much the only quest line I've done the entire way up) is hard locked until you do the instance that that part is in.
For all intents and purposes, it's optional content. Optional content that has horrid queue times and is compounding the problem I have with the MQ in general.
Having gone through the hests now, I can safely say there's no learning anything in there when people just muscle through it.
Besides, I thought guildhests were important for getting XP? What good is defeating every one of the guildhests and not receiving any XP?
Guildhests as other parts of the game, required a team to develop and implant, implanting them into main scenario will force the players to experience the instance (Think of it as a master piece, you don't draw it to throw it away, instead you want to show it to all). Similarly, no one noticed that some FATEs pop rare or Mobs names until Relic books. Why do a Lv.50 player do a Lv.5 FATE for a drop? same idea and there was a storm of frustration how SE forces players to do FATEs because FATEs are a failed system.
As I mentioned above, the same thing was been discussing to remove FATEs because they are pointless.
Everything in game is repetitive, I don't see anyone complaining running the same dungeon (Grind) 4 levels till he/she unlock next one. Or Grind the same dungeon to cap poetics, or do the same Coil / Extreme Primal for a certain drop. or do the same ol' CT runs every single week.
It's pointless? the whole game is pointless world of grind.
It still teaches the basic fights and implies some strategies and mechanics, Everyone was doing them because when the game released there was nothing called Low Level roulette and the Exp wasn't buffed.
You're all going to hate it if you ever work through the full Relic Weapon questchain. And as to having to unlock them in order after not having done one at all at 50... Well, you've got a job stone right? That means you've got at least one other class at 15. Why not take a tiny break from your main quest and level up your other class to level 25 so that class can do the rest of the guildhests, leaving your level 50 only having to queue for that one level 30 one?
Sure, the Duty Roulette for Guildhests has helped the queue times more than having a mainstory bit do a guildhest ever did, but there's no reason to remove it from the mainquest. Just buckle down and deal with the queue time, or better yet, just ask your Free Company. Especially if it's mainquest related, I'm sure at least one person that has a tank or a healer can hop into the queue with you for the 3 minutes it takes to do a guildhest.
