Retainer Ventures

Hunters (DoW/DoM), Miners, Botanists, and Fishers all can get different items, with the exception of Quick Ventures, which are the same across all of them and just bring back random items. All DoW and DoM are equivalent.

Ideally, I would suggest picking one based on what you want them to get for you. There are lists of what they can all gather on various sites.

If it's too much of a pain picking one, I wouldn't worry too much about it; they all have pretty good stuff you can gather.

Like Momomi said you can choose whatever you want I personally made one a botanist and the other a miner but that was to help me with shards / crystals / clusters used for crafting. I have also been thinking of getting a 3rd retainer that I would probably make a hunter

I made a gladiator and a miner..
Not so sure about the gladiator and how useful that is later on..

I've been reading they used to bring back all sorts of stuff but got need in patch 2.25.. how useful are they now??

Is it ever worth it two pay $2 a month to get more retainers?

I grabbed a 3rd retainer to help with storage issues while I level up. I have 1 retainer who is a glad like me for hunting then I made one a miner and the other a botanist. I use the 2 gathering retainers to help gather materials I need for ccrafting levequests or for the GC missions. I find it easier to have them get the lower level materials I need while I continue to build up my gathering levels unlocking new areas to gather.

I think I am do that as well, however I need to be able to keep up with the venture coins and due to my level (only being 31) I can't. So once I can keep 3 retainers fed with ventures I think I will do that.

I need to play with this more to see if I can stick ilvl 100 plus gear on a miner but one of the issues I had with 3 miner retainers is that mining gear caps at ilvl 70 & i55. This isn't high enough if you want rare dyes. I'm going to try to equip non miner gear to them tonight to see what happens. If it won't let me my suggestion to you is to use your main DPS/Healer/Tank class as their class and use only one miner retainer (that is if you have 4 of them). If you're heavy into crafting then 3 miner's make sense for shards/crystals etc but if not then I wouldn't go that route. I hope someone can clarify my thoughts before I get home tonight to find out for myself.

It is possible to gain more ventures through levequests as mentioned earlier. I have an alt who is about lvl 33 and is sitting on around 50 venture coins or so from a bunch of levequests I did to get a couple of other classes caught up. Once you hit 50 though it will be a lot easier to keep the ventures going. Definitely grab the beast quests once you unlock them. Have fun with it too. :)
