It makes me wonder if new Au Ra players will start in the same way the other races start the game. It would cause some conflict with lore if they don't make certain changes to quests and dialogue.
The problem with this though, is Yugiri actually says that she hides her face so that Eorzea's people will not react horribly to her appearance (paraphrased) therefore, the "disfigured" is unlikely; specially given that we can have scars on our characters that would be classed as disfigured IRL. also some of the tattoos can look disfigured if you choose color well.
And after seeing the slides of Au Ra; it is possible that we can have scales on our faces which would explain why she wears the mask as well as covering her horns.
Personally, I'm just waiting for the Au Ra naming conventions to be revealed.
Yeah I definitly get where you are coming from.. But doesnt it make even less sense to let a new player starting Au Ra begin as everyone else has, given what tattered has already put forth with regard to the possible hole in the events of the main storyline? Surely there has to be some other reason that Yugiri covers her face aside from being an Au Ra.
if I remember correctly, this isn't totally true.
The dragoons are an elite corp of the best lancers in Ishgard, and among them, only one is chosen by Nidhogg's Eye to become an azure dragoon, which one you became. There is no problem with having an entire army of dragoons fighting in Ishgard with that.
If I'm wrong, then it'll be a hell of an headache to sort it out
Yeah, I too remember reading something about Dragoons of the Holy See, with one chosen Azure Dragoon.
And, as Lyland said;
Just because they have scales and horns, doesn't technically make them "Draconian". Though, Ishgard may still think otherwise. There's also very little chance the race was spawn from St. Shiva, being that the Au Ra are from an entirely different continent and culture.
The demon idea sounds interesting, but chances are they're just a beastly, slightly reptilian, humanoid.
I'm betting that the dragon-like race coming with dragon-themed expansion wasn't done for story or lore reasons, seeing that 2.2 and Yugiris' introduction had absolutely nothing to do with Ishgard. It's probably more that the Dev. team wanted to implement a "wildly different" 6th race and it just happened to line up for 3.0, regardless of its' content.
