It looks like it could be an option for White Mages, but I think it's a bad one for the following reasons.
Unlike the current system, you're actually having to press two buttons to scroll (R2 and the macro). Not only that but it's also taking up a spot on your hotbar; Which is why I didn't even mention Scholars, we need those hotbar spaces!! And the video didn't make it clear, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the macro goes down the party list, from spot 1 to 8? If that is the case, you would need to scroll through the entire list to get to number 8, whereas you can just press up on the d-pad and get there in one click.
As for targeting while moving, I don't consider it much of a hindrance, after all healers are hardly ever on the move anyway. And you create a small solution while creating another problem, you now have less freedom to move the camera around.

So basically same as up/down on dpad but with macros that swap things around a bit. I can see it work for some people. I'll stick to the depad though. True sometimes I do need to move a finger in a weird position to target while moving but that's about it.

side note; I have a working design that only uses four hotbars for player selection. This design works pretty much the same way except the gold button cycles thru players 1-4' while the blue cycles thru 5-8 (but the same 4 crosshotbars are used for both). It's an interesting setup for sure, and targeting-wise it seems just as efficient as d-pad soft targeting.
The only downside I can see is that it takes multiple bars to use (4, as you mentioned). That's a steep price in my opinion, I have 2 bars for CNJ/WHM abilities and the rest mostly filled with other things (job switching, marking, mounts/teleport, etc.). I'm one of those guys who doesn't use ability macros on my healer (like your Cure II/Stone II). It's less efficient with space, I know, but even with each ability on it's own button it still only takes 2 bars instead of 4. Would need to trade out quite a spaces for me to use this method, but if it works, that's awesome.
I won't be using this method, but it's cool to see alternate methods of targeting. If there are still kinks in the system, I hope you can get them worked out. Seems like it could be a viable alternative for those who don't like the current controller targeting system. -

I agree with everything you said. SE really handicapped party targeting IMO, especially when compared to enemy targeting. There is a lot of player feedback in regard to this, but it doesnt appear SE is noticing, much less planning improvements. :( -

Up and down soft targeting for the part is perfect for the controller in my opinion, but that said I am used to it and I was doing similar things in FFXI with heals (i.e. the select player target macro like "/ma "Cure" <stpc>" macro). I like the rebound to the clicked/selected target, I generally keep it on the tank/main tank and if someone else gets hit it's a quick couple up/down on the pad and cure then straight back to the tank.Quote:

This is just Garuda, and double healer, while I can solo heal this and still DPS 50% of the fight.

And I find your playstyle slow, like beetwin aero2 ans stone there was 0.5sec of nothing at least, didn't watch the rest, there is proly more like this.
But, I heard someone did solo heal T9 (before eccho) with a gamepad, and this proff that's it's possible to heal well with a gamepad.
Garuda is easy now, even extreme mode.
Myself I dont care, everyone can play with what he's confortable with, I prefer myself playing with a keyboard with 6 more buttons at the left (use 4 for the 4 last party members targting, 2 for potions), and a Naga mouse with 12 button on the left (all for skills), this is what I use for every MMORPG I play, becoz, if you try to play something els then FF14 with a gamepad... good luck.
