Well consider me told then! Not to start levelling up my retainers...
As far as I know, as long as you're getting the message "Your retainer's current gear should improve chances of finding rare items." upon completing a venture you should be able to get them. The message shows up just after the received item message. I'm pretty sure it's just a really, really slim chance. I just got lucky, for once. Months of clearing T6-8 and only one Casting drop, but hey I got some silver dye! x.x lol
Why not zoom rather than a bunch of screenshots focusing on random things?
Here's a shot I Photoshopped together of the Gold and Silver on the Coeurl Swimsuit set. Someone I know who has 4 silver offered to color it for me, so I'm rather thankful that I havent worn the set yet and its not bound to me. :D

The black is almost too black for most things, it hides the tiny details like stitching in cloth and leather. On metal its not so bad, but it can even hide rivets in metal armors.
The white is very noticable depending on what you compare it to with the Snow White Dye. On some things its quite obviously brighter, on other things the difference is minimal at best.
Test, test, test before you commit to using one is my suggestion. Take screenshots to compare side by side to make sure the difference is enough to justify using something thats rare and a pain to get.
So far I've been able to net 2 whites, 4 silvers and blacks.
Naturally, RNG does not bestow upon me the gold dye that I'm looking for.
smh -.-
It's after quick ventures, dunno about the other kinds. And it's definitely there, because it will either say "should improve" or something along the lines of "will not improve." I don't remember the exact wording for the other message, but one of the two shows every time you gain an item from a quick venture.

Silver's nice for ironically removing enamel from your armor. Unfortunately no other bare metal matches it.
I'd have to say the chances to get an uncommon dye is around 10%? Gold is probably very rare, as I've gotten around 10 black, 8 white, and 6 silver so far.
