This. A sense of accomplishment requires that we have something to pat ourselves on the back for. People who think the books are any better are out of their minds. I'm on book six and I don't think I can keep going with this. It just cuts into everything else in the game that is more interesting. Grinding dungeons for vanity items, finding a group for raids, or even boring ST are all vastly more interesting options than atma. Two of those are things I regularly complain about and I'm putting them as "more fun" than atma.
End game grinds are supposed to be about encouraging people to come together in a positive way to accomplish a goal. This is just a long solo grind that's size-ably worse than any long term grind in FFXI just for that reason alone. We're revisiting stuff that has no relevance to us, making zero friends out of it because of totally random cross-server groups, and then doing it over and over.
