Yes, but I am speaking of the change to data centers. Before, the DF pulled from wherever. Anyone remember which month they did this? Oct? Nov? I forget... ^^;

You have much more pressing matters to tend to if you can't afford a mere $18.00.
Just ask Mom and Dad for a dollar a day, or get a job.. saving up $18.00 is very, very possible.
Save 1.00 a day.
In 18 days you can server transfer.
There's 1 thing OP forgot or even never experience this problem: Latency!
Yes, back on Sargatanas, this posed as very... very problematic situation. You "have" to per-emptive incoming attacks. That's Titan for ya. You even need to go extra mile by paying for tunneling service, which IMO are not great solution since we have to fork extra cash.
But the community feels great. So easy to converse and know with many ppl with from different countries.
And yes, when I moved to Masamune, it was latency heaven. 1st time I felt latency below 100 ms. But man... the server feels like ghost town for English community. You either have to be JP literate, or feel somehow alienated.
So... here's the dilemma: Want broader & reachable community, or movement freedom? Is it impossible to have both, except maybe to live closer to NA data center to have both?
And since SE lifted the ban so that legacies can transfer to non legacy servers, this problem becomes more and more worse. Seems like slowly english speaker at JP servers are being herded to the obvious choice: Tonberry. But is that really a solution? And just forget things ppl have been building on their old servers?
PPl already making huge list of complaint regarding latency, and frankly, we really have ran out of patience. I don't even know if SE care anymore.
I love FF series since long time ago, but this dilemma makes me think to forget enjoying MMO.
If you are on a JP server you can expect that to happen. People will always prefer playing with people they can understand.
Not necessarily. Remember that the consumer ultimately dictates the value of things. You vote with your wallet. When you are on a budget and say, you have $100 dollars free each month after rent, bills, and food; Would you rather spend $18 on a transfer or say screw that and save it all? Or option C, get yourself something nice that costs $85? You do work hard, after all.
If someone ultimately quits the game because they don't want to drop nearly $20 on roughly 15-45 seconds of server load and bandwidth for the script to move your bits over, how much more does SE stand to lose? It's an interesting question I think.
