Dragoons are getting their Wyvern (not explicitly announced, Yoshi vid inside)

Might be something like SCH pet, that give you some SS buff, TP recovery, maybe can tank for you, or other utility stuff.
You could have something like a tether between DRG and WYV, so the further away you are from it, the more damage it does, so if you need to move a lot, you dont loose a lot of DPS.
Anyway, i don't really care about it all that much; would just be bothersome to micro-manage pet, on top of everything else...and i dont want to use macros, to be effective.
Or maybe something like a job specific mount, that you can use as companion, like Chocobo. That's what i'm thinking they are going to do with magitec mount, anyway.

He did not say we'd be getting a wyvern. He said it is something that could happen, but even that isn't a tacit admission that it is going to happen. Don't read too far into things.

So odds are we will be seeing a pet for DRG though it might not have any actual battle features. It might function with a different mechanic in mind or be an aesthetic that hangs around after you use a certain ability.

Edit: An example for a mechanic could be every time you jump you get a stack of an ability (like Aetherflow) to use for something. The stacks could be represented visually by 1-3 wyverns or a wyvern that changes colors/gets larger. The stacks could be used for future job abilities (perhaps a conal breath attack) or could act as mini shields to help alleviate further the issue of jumping and landing in an AoE.

Wyvern as a pet = keep your rotation going and manage/position the wyvern - on a controller. No thank you.

To be fair, XI isn't the only Square game to have ninjas effectively have been tanks - Bravely Default's ninja is probably best known for the fact that Utsusemi lets it negate like 70% of the attacks in the game and has absolutely 0 cost beyond the action it takes; you could do that with FFV in some cases too because of !Image.

But yeah, in each case Ninjas seem to have more or less been accidental tanks rather than deliberate ones, and XIV is very deliberate in its design.

EDIT: Also before someone says "But BD wasn't an FF game", it was developped as Four Heroes of Light II and is basically a successor to V (and all pre-PS1 FFs, really) in story and gameplay design, so yeah, I'm going to count it as one even if it's named different.

Well, do remember that Ishgard and the whole of Coerthas in general is kind of on a witch hunt. Except it's a dragon hunt. Because they hate dragons.

Unless there's some sort of revelation late in the Dragoon job quests (there might be, I've only taken it to 34), it actually doesn't make much thematic sense for the lore's Ishgardian-based class to partner with dragons. That might just be a gap in quest knowledge on my part though.

That might just be somethng that is solved in the "see how the story progresses" content; maybe Dragons are a Beast Tribe sometime in the future, who knows?

Kinda spoiler but... iirc late in the dragoon questline, we discover that the more we use the DRG's power, the more we become like dragons, so who knows... maybe in the future we could talk telephatically to dragons and find out that they might not be so bad after all, or that the ishgardians did something to them long ago that started all this battle. Im not THAT into lore tho, =P
