Bad "alt" Players

could have been the case, maybe. but if i recall correctly the way she(it was a friend of mine who was checking the numbers) came to that conclusion was over total dmg dealt in the encounter, not actual dps, i think in that particular case we were doing t4 and our pld did a total of 14k dmg while the summoner was sitting around 8k(this included the dmg that garuda dealt). we were wiping on the first dreadnaught due to dps issues


im not talking about fate groups or low lvl stuff here folks. im talking end game encounters

The most recent thing I've heard from the parsing apps is that they now read the memory to get a much more accurate number for dots, and the only thing they still have to estimate is Shadow Flare/Flaming Arrow. Of course, that assumes the person telling you this has been updating his stuff at all and has properly configured his combat log (turned on all the options, basically).

'Course, the last thing I heard from SE was that parsers are mysteriously bannable. Use at your own risk, basically.

Bought accounts maybe? Used to be a thing with FFXI. People would get fed up, quit, and sell their account to an RMT site for a small return on their investment of time/monthly fees. Dunno if the way FXIV is set up allows for this sort of thing, but you used to get people in FFXI at max level with all the best gear that couldn't play worth crap, and would sometimes admit that they'd bought the account.

Had a guy earlier today in thousand maws off a roulette that I had to completely teach how to play SCH. He said he was playing on a friend's character to see if the game was something he wanted to buy. He literally had no idea how to do anything at all. Although, that doesn't account for the huge number of really terrible players I've been seeing lately either.

I think most of the problem here is that when ppl levelled up their mains you did a lot of dungeon crawling for gear etc. I'm working on my first alt (BLM) and im getting flat out bored of running dungeons (especially because of the longer queue times) so I find most of the time I'm jsut doing FATES, which require no skill at all. So I can only assume most ppl do this , and by the time they are 50, they don't really know about HOW to play that class.

Were they adding your Garuda's DPS to your own? Garuda is essentially another half of you, parsing without it is like parsing a Monk's auto attacks and none of his skills

On-topic: I mostly see it with tanks and even some healers. My favorite was a Healer DRing Tam Tara, was mostly i80/90 and Allagan staff. There were so many times the tank nearly died and I rarely saw Cleric Stance drop from the healer.

One issue is being confused with another here further down the thread.

There are people who know perfectly well how to play their job, but not in lower-level dungeons. The way, say, a THM works in Tam-Tara Deepcroft is not the same as BLM50 in endgame content; rotations are different because of missing abilities and traits, and different strategies must be used, but a lot of players never played low-level dungeons more than once for story progression, and now end up "helping" newbies there in the Duty Finder Roulette, enticed by the fat bonus rewards being offered.

Then there are people who are new to a job. Maybe you think they're far worse than they should be, but maybe they are really, really new to it. Don't forget that it's a lot faster to level up and gear new jobs after your first, and you don't develop the same sort of routine and practice the same way as you did on your first job. Most people probably can't be bothered to go back and re-run things the way they did with their first job, or weren't very good at observing other players running it. And they simply need some tips and practice.

I don't really see a problem either way, except for the ones who are lacking in experience but unwilling to learn if someone offers them advice on how to improve.

This doesn't shock me at all considering you can level up to 50 without doing any higher level content via Low level roulette. Also gearing alts to i80+ is a joke if you already have another high level job. It should not be this easy to gear alt jobs. People should have to actually play them.

Duty Roulette has given me many a player with myth chest and an average item level of 55. Some of my personal favs are BLM that ONLY casts thunder, BRD that ONLY uses a single AoE skill, and SCH that stand there like a zombie while their pet does all the work and they contribute nothing.

many parsers don't count DoT if there is no intial damage (like Bio and BioII iirc). They are improving constantly but it represents a great loss in dps for SMN if a derp player is reading the reports.

Last thing I heard was that ou can be banned for parser advertising, not actual use of them. Probably not a good idea to argue about it without an official statement though ^.^
