Why do they try to make tanking harder?

I hate it when people say things like this:

You're probably not using Flash often enough, aren't marking targets, or aren't switching targets often enough.

Important part about tanking is maintaining pace in dungeons. If you're too slow then you may be incompatible with your party members, which leads to things like DPS pulling in front of you.

Letting your party die is just proving to them how bad of a tank you are.

Why do people always do this? Op clearly stated not attacking the same target and pulling hate before hand while away from the centralization of the group.

YET, you seem to deem it appropriate to blame him/her for the mistakes of others. Try taking a tank with low level gear and keep agro from a blm in full myth and see how you do.

It's also clear the op knows how to allow a tank to tank, clearly derived by their description of first hand problems.

Have people forgotten why people use roulette?

He does have some points though. If you fated from 15-50, you have absolutely no idea what abilities are useful in what situation. Tanks that don't know their emnity combo/flash, dps that don't know rotations or who try to pull, healers who haven't even healed much. I agree with you that fates themselves don't produce bad players. Players who fate from 15-50 make bad players.

Low level dungeons are pretty easy.... they're pretty much head first things where everyone can grab an enemy and nobody dies.
The problem is you can't really out-gear them like you can at level 50. And you don't have your entire tool-kit that you might be used to.
You also get to the point where players realize at the end of it, it doesn't matter if they pulled hate.


Tanking is not easy, and the fewer tools you have the harder it is. Sometimes it's bad communication (AoE vs. Single target, and which single target)... Sometimes it's that a DPS/healer got a new ability which if they use it too often causes problems (AoE / HoT abilities).


I will say though, some days it's that the tank is missing a beat, please be willing to accept constructive criticism.
EG: you should really go do your class quest for shield lob before doing another dungeon.
or : you shouldn't pull with provoke unless it's for range reasons it is your lowest base enmity skill
or : using your Combo (BB / RoH) generates more hate than using the final skill alone.


Also, gear scales down fairly well. Low-level gear will have 3 attributes which are relevant, mid and high level gear will have 4. The stat-caps for gear will be based on your character level when in the dungeon... however it is still different holding hate against someone who has maxed-stats on gear from it being synched down than from someone who's ilevel is lower than the dungeon level.

Ask your healer to heal. Sometimes it helps. Once during a Castrum run one of the healers was DPSing and didn't notice that the other healer died and as a result we wiped. I explained that we already had 4 DPS so if the healers would heal it would be great. I could have probably phrased it more politely, but we had a smooth run after that.

Welp I fate'd from 5-50 on two jobs and all I get is compliments on how skilled I am, people in my fc asks me for advice. It's up to the individual if they want to learn their class or not. Only my tank, I use fates to practice keeping aggro on multiple mobs and things go smoothly. On my healer I would tell people to eat the red circles to practice healing in "oh schitt" situations.

Anyway OP, like some one else stated just let them die. Idk why DDs think its okay to go balls to the wall on the mob marked "3" lol.

I do get it can be the tanks fault but:
tanks only lvl 19
i do not get provoke yet
i never use those moves with out combo since they do not give benefits with out it,and even then i barely use them in aoe add pulling since the dps like to single target what ever add im not on so i need flash to gcd instead.

I'm curious, was it the first job you ever leveled that you fated from 5-50 with? And there are always exceptions. :)

Nothing in his original post indicates to me that he knew what he was talking about, at all. Hes obviously new to tanking, and is complaining about aggro in early low level dungeons/hests, where it does not matter at all.

My very first job was a WHM, then SCH/SMN, then Paladin. I'm only good at support classes :<

I did the story quests once I hit 50.

Make sure youre marking the mobs. 1, 2, 3, is really all you need in your skill bar to mark efficiently
