At the end, in 1.23, it was quite nice. At least in theory. It was searchable, you could buy from the entrance and if you saw someone selling items you liked, you could mark him/her with a star to find the bazaar easier. It was slightly broken when the game went down; Ul'dah's market wards were often full, so you could not choose which ward to pick really, you'd just have to pick whichever ward happened to be not full. Which means you couldn't control which type of stuff got lower sales tax. Otherwise it was working just fine as it was, and browing it could be quite nice. Not sure why they even kept retainers, since they're now only a NPC that no-one but you can see, that appears only for a few seconds when you call them to trade stuff in your inventory...
bazaar system is dead with auto logout
it had bad effect city like gridania and limsa at the end of the v1 was quite empty, everyone was going to uld'ah because of this..
i'm pretty happy they have take it out...
no interest to leave the bazar and at the same time put an AH, worst they are often abused by the rmt.
I don't think elitist means what you think it means. And again, server capacities were increased to accommodate the massive number of players at launch. Like all games, those numbers have dropped off. That means there's extra login capacity. The only time I've seen a login queue since then has been when Odin Zantetsuken'd the server.
Bazaars would be useful to afk around hubs were players gather (Quarrymill, Dragonhead, Revenant's Toll, etc). Save people the inconvenience of having to go back to town to get whatever the bazaar could provide.
I miss bazaar shopping for rare stuff, oh wait there is nothing rare in ffxiv.
