Ah, I see. That was just a simple example I plucked out of my head, but there were many such occasions where I found myself wondering such things, and I am the sort to talk to the various NPCs most people would walk by. I'm slowly working my through that awesome gamerescape link though :)

Gamer escape article was a great read. Now we just need a compilation of events and civilizations of past astral and umbral eras.

Actually, just to note that some portions of lore are mentioned in such passing...
Because when you do the mission on crab island- I mean Isles of Umbra, where you fight... Well, the same boss you should be fighting on Pharos Sirius in the future... You are actually told what, more or less, those crystalline formations are

During 1.0 I compiled many dates/eras into an Eorzean Timeline and am continuing onward with 2.0. But yeah I'd love for an official timeline, but we have lots of storylines to go before all the Astral/Umbral Eras are explained.
