Lore Resources

Lore within the game seems to be either completely vague or need pieced together. There should be some kind of comprehensive wiki or section on the site devoted to ALL of the lore in the game. Or is there something like this out there that I've missed?

I'm not certain vague would be the word - I think FFXIV is quite lore-rich. But it can be overwhelming, as it is difficult to piece together some parts like you said, and it is also difficult to access dialogue or information within the game if you are not recording or taking comprehensive notes as you progress. Apart from the official website, which has general lore information, and the gemstones posted in these forums by the FFXIV team, I do not think there are "official" lore sections, no.

Things which I would love to see in FFXIV, would be a more comprehensive bestiary, akin to those in FFXII or other FF games. It could be done in a similar fashion to the fishing guide - it could also be included in the Libra Eorzea application if it would be too complicated to add in game.

At least we have these forums to post!

When I say vague, I mean that entire dynastys, eras, and figures are mentioned in one sentence, and that is all you get. Is there not a history or Eorzea out there for us to read? The game is lore rich, just need access to the lore.

I don't think you'll find anything in depth like that Lukahn, at least, not official, other than what's mentioned here on this forum by Ferne (usually in response to questions members raised) or fansites like Gamerescape or Hydaelyn Roleplayers. There is a brief summary of Eorzea's history on the official FFXIV website (not the Lodestone, but the actual FFXIV product site), but again, it's deliberately vague as it's only there to give a basic introduction to the game's plot and setting without giving anything really away which might spoil plot events in the game.

The FF Wiki though does have a bit of info on the lore too, so that's an option (especially the summary of the original 1.0 storyline).

They've hinted that they're thinking about putting in an area similar to Library of the Ancients from FFV that should house a lot of information, but it probably won't be for quite a while.

As has been said, the lore is spread out between the forums and in-game, but can be quite extensive.
Personally I hope they would open up the Great Library of Ishgard, once Ishgard is available to enter of course.

Yes and yes. That project, though, focused entirely on the limited-time-only, Team Yoshi-P-managed story that moves from 1.15 to 2.00. I purposefully left out everything from 1.0 that was broken down and rebuilt into ARR's main scenario, as well as everything that was left unfinished and seemingly scrapped (for now?), or completely unrelated. Slowly building a preservation of Version 1.0's lore in its entirety is a separate project of mine that is very, very slow-going. It'll happen, though... I have every resource I need except for time...

I'll check out those links too. I shared your concern, Lukahn, as it seems the answers to so many things are out there but I have no idea where it all comes from :P

I've been given answers by players but I haven't heard a thing in-game about it. It seems like the lore has a huge amount of depth that many players such as those that frequent this board are familiar with, yet it seems like you barely hear 1/10th of that in the game itself.

Actually, Aeliott, I believe those flame shaped crystals are corrupted/crystalized aether. I'm not sure if you've gotten this far yet, but it's explained a little bit when you begin the Binding Coil of Bahamut. I'm beginning to think that aether is similiar to the lifestream from Final Fantasy 7, and that when the world was damaged during the calamity, aether became corrupted in those spots. Sort of like a scab on the planet. The lighthouse in western La Noscea had an aether generator, explaining the flame coming out of it.
