Does this game truly need minmaxing?

I'm not sure what kind of clowns are in your house but I think the allagan mixed with AF2 look pretty cool. Some of them fit together quite well. I enjoy examining players around the coil area and seeing what they are wearing. Wearing a compete set is nice but also looks boring in my opinion.

With vanity slots coming later, you can look how ever you want while having the best numbers.

Just for the record I have 4/5 AF2 I haven't had a lot of luck with RNG and Allagan Drops on PLD (always stuck seeing MNK/DRG/BLM drops which is another issue lol). I wont be passing on a Allagan piece just because I think I will look like a "clown" without the full AF2 look. At the end of the day I do not sit and look at my character in town. I enjoy completing content so if that means I have some Allagan and some AF2 then so be it. Takes 2 weeks to get AF2 boots when on a specific job you can get them in turn 1 or turn 2. Just because you have mixed and match gear doesn't mean your elitist. And preferring a specified piece of gear doesn't make you "elitist" For example their are some pieces of PLD AF2 Vs. Allagan that have ACC instead of Parry and to be honest I'd go with Parry or more VIT no matter what I look like. If someone in my static passed on an Allagan piece of gear because they are holding off for full AF2 then that is cutting through my time to gearing up for Turn 5 and what's to come.
On and end not, I do see what you are saying though if your stating someone wont play with you because you don't have the BiS "lvl 90" slot then that is BS. My personal opinion is the lvl 90 gear no matter if its Allagan or AF2 is the BiS above the lvl 70 gear and will be efficient enough for you in coil ++ and I don't see someone who is enjoying endgame content passing on Allagan because they want a certain "LOOK".

I care about both appearance and stats. As long as I can complete content, I will choose appearance over extra unneeded stats.

Some people will min/max no matter what. I'll do it as long as it doesn't compromise the way my char looks. Why just kill stuff, when you can kill stuff and look good doing it?

For the most part I agree with your statement up until this point and that is only because there is zero progressive content coming out for endgame raiding until 2.2 for the people that have cleared t1-t4 or t5. That means a good portion of the people who don't worry too much will probably be through t5 and sitting in full w/e it is that makes them and the RNG gods happy.

However, from a practical point of view, getting AF2 pieces take a long time and allagan pieces might take a long time depending on your luck. This should go without explanation but allagan drops are random, mythos are not. You can plan ahead and, say, get your AF2 for your turn 5 drops's slots because you know you won't be clearing it soon or get AF2 pieces for slots that don't have allagan yet. This is why anyone who does endgame with half a brain mix them up.

Gonna use ONLY crafted gear (and relic weapon). Because. At least I made the damn thing. It'll have my crafter's name on it. And some sense of accomplishment. And materia, not 'nothing'. Also looks better.

Will spend 8100 myth on the 9 relic+1 first. Then will keep the myth for Summoner solely for the purpose of topping VIT on left side and getting a 10,000 Titan-egi. Oh and for mannequins in my future home. Not to actually use in normal combat.

No, i didn't meant we should pass an allagan drop. Myth set requires months. Even loving it , we have to accept a patchwork needing that gear piece, waiting better days.

I did this thread because i was walking near Coil entrance, talking with a JP guy, analysing what strange patchwork of crafted, DL, myth and allagan he made.

Point is: a complete allagan set (weapon included) will perform on par with a complete myth n relic+1, playing coil. Same for crafted gear + materia melded on every piece (it's a better alternative than DL if properly melded, perfect for a coil run, waiting to get your 90 armor piece) .
Period. (At least it's how they are meant to be)
I totally understand the minimax attitude of some players. Just, guys, this game (luckly for us) is not just numbers. Endgame gear is truly meant to be used to endgame content. Don't go around like a dumb just because stats matters :D

It's also an endgame goal, so why not ? :)

To some people, stats are what matters. To others, looks are what matters.

To coil, stats are what matters. No, full allagan set, full mythology set and fully crafted set don't perform the same, simply because stat totals are different. People use a mix of them because that's the best they can do for now. Seriously, what's your point?

Short answer, no.
Long answer noooooooooo. ilvl is most important, as long as you're wearing some kind of ilvl90 stuff, it doesn't really matter all that much. min/maxing helps your raid of course but is it necessary in this game? one can argue only for twintania, and even that is debatable. Min/maxing stats is always helpful, but never make or break. Min/maxing spell timings is often unnecessary and failure can lead to a wipe. Many tanks are 40-50 points over accuracy cap with their gear at some point and theres basically nothing they can do about it.
