Why? I love the wizardy hats, and the long robes. The Loyalist's Bliaut looks amazing, and it all looks very fantasy.

Go to the weavers guild and look at the nice red and yellow gown on the Mannequin and know that it may be a while until we get to wear it :P
no but this would be acceptable http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/w...alus-BLU-1.jpg

I hope they release more styles of the robes at least. If all I have to look forward to in new gear is a brand new colour well...No thanks. After hitting 50 CON the best gear to wear for that rank is either the Harly acton, or the vintage robe.
I hope they release a new style of gear like this. http://www.modojo.com/media/features/118/white-mage.jpg
At least with the robes. Recolours weren't accepted very much in XI so I can't imagine the majority of XIV being pleased either.
I've explained this before in another thread but the reason why the gear is "bland" looking is primarily due to the costume design concept that the develop team went with. That concept was "realistic Medieval" (not medieval fantasy). XI on the other hand was set in high Renaissance - late Gothic which is why you have all the adornments on the armor (frills, pleats, colors, tassels, embossing, etching, dagging, scalloping, etc)
The actual Medieval garments (in real history) were primarily either crude/basic chain mail or plate mail; or if it was a cloth, a single piece of fabric wrapped or draped around the wearer, hence cowls and gowns. And while they take a little liberty in deviating from this concept in some of the armor, they are sadly sticking to this concept 95% of the time.
All that being said I wish they would stop the medieval run as it clearly doesn't work (nice try though) and get back to the High Renaissance - Late Gothic era style armor as it is more visually appealing for the owner and for the passer-by.
I agree with you about the bland colors and lack of options. Boy was I disappointed when I realized that the "special" mage gear was a dull colored court jester set (I'm assuming that is a Final Fantasy thing, I don't get the mage/harlequin connection lol). Then there's the vintage robe, which has a pretty nice style IMHO but is, well . . . grey. xD
The WVR and CON/THM guilds have some really nice garments you can see though, it is a shame we players can't wear them. And that is an interesting observation OMEGA_HACK, I hope that SE will indeed change their style!
