Did you even read any of the posts? No one was complaining about botched class balance at all.
i rarely ever have latency problems with this game at all. i dont the base earned pvp gear to the advanced gear being too much of a difference in stats. forced party composition is a great idea to me as in terms of balance, (you have no idea how many mmo pvp matches i have played having a team have 0 healers and the other team having 2 or more) but might slow up the match time for solo df. would force people that wanted fast paced pvp to form a group though. fresh meat, maybe a small percentage yes, but most people that will spend alot of time doing pvp probably have alot of experince from other mmo pvp. the devs cant do anything about new people wanting to play pvp. the only thing i could even see them commenting on that could be a problem would be the solo vs premade groups, other that that i dont see much they can do about everything else...
It all depends on how easy it is to get the pvp gear. If it's handed out, at least a basic set, then it should be mostly skill based. If it takes a few weeks to get a full set of pvp gear than it will be allagan gear vs DL gear which is gear>skill.
4v4 instanced fighting. I know, let's call it PvP!
Meaningless instanced fighting is not pvp. If you wanna bitch about something then bitch about that.
Outside of all of the balance issues that may or may not exist in PvP, I do think a lot of people will agree that point #4 is going to be really freaking stupid.
"Fresh Meat"...
Whoever thought of that should be fired, seriously. Worst. Idea. Ever.
I don't understand the name restriction - it's how I learned to avoid certain players that were really good in a PvP setting. It's how you made friends and built groups/communities of like-minded players.
I might as well be fighting an NPC if I can't talk to, get to know, or track other players and learn their play-style or asses their sportsmanship.
Some players will be abusive towards others outside of PvP situations - why not take away our character names altogether?
People deserve the reputations they build for themselves; be they positive or negative.
Just do tests guys, you'll see how the netcode issues may plague PvP.
Find a friend, get on a vocal chat or phone call (no latency) and do the following:
1. Stand behind a line, imaginary or not. Countdown vocally 3… 2… 1… GO! and simply run in the same direction, as if racing. Comment on what each of you sees.
—> in my case I always see myself running faster, whereas my friend sees the opposite. Sometimes, the other character (not you) on your screen will slightly accelerate to compensate for that discrepancy. You can observe that with Garuda, when hiding behind rocks (seeing yourself hidden first, your friends sees the opposite), or against Titan (you'd swear people will get hit by AoE's but their characters simply accelerate at the end, on your screen; as a tank you can see that during the whole fight).
2. Stand on the same exact spot (stacked up). Countdown…*Run in small circles (typically around an aetheryte). Comment on what you see.
—> In my case, at some point I see myself diametrically opposed to my friend, whereas said friend sees me somewhere else entirely on the circle perimeter.
I've never observed such discrepancies between clients in other online games, at least not recently, and certainly no with broadband. That's going to cause problems with PvP, specifically for melee range and casters who need to face their target.
Going to be up front, I hate PvP, always have. I have never known 'good' PvP in an MMORPG. Ever. That said, The only real problem I see is the latency. As anyone whose fought a hard mode primal can tell you, latency can be the difference between avoiding an attack and not. I know I've had my share of getting sent flying by an attack that shouldn't have even touched me. The gear check... that's going to happen without or without a gear check system, noone's going to invite you if your not sporting the best PvP gear. We get this already with the PvE content! Grouping is also going to be subjective, use the Finder and get a balanced group according to the game or match up beforehand and go in as a murdersquad. 9 times out of 10 it's going to be a murdersquad. Square has no control over that either. Now, the best thing I've seen come out of this is the "Fresh Meat" moniker. Too many people get hung up on PvP and rubbing victories in peoples faces. It's a disgusting habit and I'm glad Square acknowledges just how disgusting it is.
