People who have 8 holes in their walls and need them filled to keep the cold out?
/edit - oh yeah, it won't install for people who have an SSD primary and usr folder on a different drive, gives a 0xc1900102 error.
I stood with XP for a decade, better compatibility for a slightly faster OS? Hell no...
wooooh~! I completely forgot about the release date hehe. I've been using W8.1 Pro PV and been lovin' it (never had issues with the original 8 though). I hope I can just activate my key and not have to redownload and reinstall when I get home >_< Last thing I want is work on computers all day just to get home and work on my computer all night /cry. . .
^^ This like x4 times
I upgraded to windows 8 last December when the PRO version was 39.99 (a great deal) and I'm very happy with its performance. I hate Metro interface but I fixed that by buying Start 8. So i have the familiar UI from windows 7 with all the performance and security enhancements of windows 8.
Upgraded both my desktop and Surface Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro this morning and no issues to report with FFXIV. I noticed a huge performance boost on the Surface Pro after the update. The Intel GFX driver version is now dated Oct 2013.
Desktop has Media Center Pack add-on, Surface Pro does not.
I updated from windows 8 pro w/media center to windows 8.1 and it works fine for me.
the amount of blind hate for windows 8/8.1 is still amazing. Windows 8 was a great improvement resource use wise and performance wise, and the Metro menu really did not bother me. Now that 8.1 is here, and you get the old start menu back, it is the best of both worlds.
You only need to get used to, is the "strange touch based" design (if you are using a regular mouse and keyboard).
I mean... Who designed a feature where you have to go to the top of the screen in order to have your mouse cursor change to a hand, so that you can press and hold the mouse button in order to grab hold of an App and drag it all the way down to the bottom to close it? It makes sense with a Touch interface, not so much with a mouse. (^_^ )
When you get used to that, Windows 8 runs smooth as silk.
I have to wait until someone puts an ISO of 8.1 up somewhere so I can use that to update. (No idea what would get removed if I used the store download, but ISO can be used to bypass it)
