I was misunderstood... It's obvious that Medica II gives more aggro than Regen, but what I meant was:
Don't use Regen, you don't need it. In case of everyone being at low HP and no time to heal all the party with Cure, use Medica II.
My patterns are always the same:
- Cure repeatedly, using Freecure when possible;
- If the tank gets too much damage, I use Cure II once or twice;
- In case of danger for everyone I use Medica once or twice;
- In case of extreme danger for everyone I use Divine Seal + Medica II once and then Medica once or twice, then back to Cure.
And, last but not least, Regen can pull even at 4th or 5th tank's combo, it's not his fault. Never using Regen would make any fight a lot easier.

Though I should add a lot of fights are coded in a way that the adds that pop will initially go after whoever is on top of the enmity list of the boss (that usually being the tank) and obviously the add is going to be on you pretty quick since you are healing the tank.

That mostly depend on tank, if there isnt overheal or minimum overheal(which usually the case),regen+cure always better than Cure II. Because Cure II generate slightly more hate than usual per amount of heal.

If tank keep getting huge amount of damage, regen can help keeping his HP at min safe level. If tank takes decent amount of damage, u could just put regen, take a cup of tea and wait for his HP run low then use cure to patch up. If u watch ur healing carefully and prevent any kind of overheal, u shouldnt have any trouble at all. Regen pulls in the middle of the fight mostly because tank forget to use flash or have no idea when to use. If that happens, doesnt matter if u use regen or not, u will pull aggro. It's always tank's fault and we shouldnt take responsibility for fail tanking~

As a Tank sometimes I forget to cut off regen before pull, would be nice if there was simple command like

/buff "Regen" -- If Regen buff is on me cut it off

Regen is a great spell, you're missing out if you dont use it. You just need to know when to use it.

If you're taking threat from your tank with regen then it's a tanking problem, unless you are casting regen at the wrong time(before a pull or a boss that spawns adds).

The lack that Regen has is the healing over time. This is a problem with bosses, because the battle is always different from before, which means if anything happens and the tank has regen on, you will take aggroed, while Cure II gets slightly more aggro but all at once, in a moment you can control, when you can say "this is the good moment for a Cure II".
And the problem is even bigger with HM primals, because it seems they have a double aggro bar: the main one, that is always on the tank, and the other unseen one, that doesn't affect the tank, and controls the attacks like Eruption or Weight of the Land.
I noticed that every time I use Regen, I become the favourite target for these attacks, while when I don't use it I almost never get picked. Now I never get picked for these attacks, because I learned not to use Regen, because it's not needed, not even in danger situations. It's just a skill that makes you relax during easy boss fights.

You could start right after begin?

I myself had to also break the habit of throwing on regen... At the wrong time. Using it after the tank establishes hate seems to work fine but it really is a double edged sword in my opinion and like stoneskin you need to know when you shouldn't use it it seems.
