Yes, but we're talking about the Legacy chocobos, which are the former GC chocobos that 1.0 players got before the calamity. So all the Legacy chocobos are male.

It is kind of funny that my GC chocobo has the name I gave it in 1.0; not my legacy. Of course that is reading entirely too much into it.
