Poked at EXDR and got Xelphatol as my instance. The DPS was so slow that we managed to see two lifts on the first boss, two on-highs on the second boss, and three Garuda summons on the final boss.

25 minute run in total, which I guess isn't bad per say but when you're used to running 13-15 minute runs you can feel that difference, lol.

Just go out of a Sunken Temple of Qarn (Normal) run that lasted 35~ minutes.

The level 50 PLD driving this struggle bus could not hold hate on more than one target for the life of him. On the second boss, I think everyone except for him took a turn tanking. Only upon death's sweet embrace of the DPS was he able to reestablish aggro.

I don't understand how someone gets so far yet has no concept of how to play their class. I offered up one tip which was, "Can you use [Flash] more? It's basically your only AoE enmity generator at this level." Silence. And no compliance as we proceeded the rest of the way.

At that point I was done. I wanted to go on some vitriol ridden rant at the end, but I refrained. Like what do you even say at that point and, more importantly, how do you say it nicely to someone that was such a complete and utter burden to the party?

I took a much needed break after that.

the 2nd boss for Qarn normal is the golem, right? because i thought that thing didn't follow a normal threat table like the shadow dragon in Stone Vigil HM/Nidhogg

You are correct. It still happens where people yell at the tank in that boss when the tank has *nothing to do* with the golem deciding to go up and whack someone else in the face.

I refuse to heal those people. They can get smacked to death.

So a couple of hours ago, I took some painkillers that were freshly prescribed by my doctor. Also, I am really really cold. Then I went on to do some other things, while enjoying a distinct lack of pain.

But apparently, the additional effects of these painkillers take a while to set in on me, because I signed up for Expert Roulette as AST. Somehow, my reaction time got shot to hell, to the point where I would just sit there, staring at the tank's HP going down, and thinking to myself, "I should heal," and then taking a few more seconds to actually start healing. Tank ended up dying a couple of times on trash pulls, and I was just too out of it to respond to it.

I'm sure I'll feel guilty about being so fail at healing in the morning, but right now, I can't feel anything except a vague sense of amusement. Also mostly I'm just so glad there's no pain. At least we never actually wiped during that run.

I actually can't believe you because that hasn't been my experience in dungeons. I've had that 1, maybe 2, issues with rude/"leetish" people in DF. I have noticed there are quite a few people in this thread that have multiple stories tho. I must be lucky not getting in groups with people like that. Not sure what else to say about that.

The problem with telling someone what to do, rather than being nicer about it and suggesting or asking about it, is that you don't know that player at all, and can run into a situation like I described earlier. I'm guessing there are very few people in this game that know every single job inside and out enough to be able to tell someone what to do in every single situation, instead of just suggesting something else be tried, or asking why they are or aren't doing something.

Again, it all comes down to how you approach the situation, and realizing the other person might take the "tone" of the help you think you're being nice about as being rude/"leetish."

After all this time, I've finally met one myself:

A Bard who refused to use Wanderer's Minuet because he doesn't like to "stand still" (although he does not need to, even with WM).

Am I part of the club now?

You've been lucky. I am always nice about it and if they ignore me I don't bother saying the same thing again. Only time I am not nice is if I casually politely offer tips and they insult me for it. I never say anything like "you HAVE to do this or that" I say "you should use this or that" or "if it's okay can you please use this or that" so I am still telling them information but it is in the form of a suggestion anyway.

Still no matter how nice I am I get salt back 90% of the time :/ even with smiley faces!

Reading that thread: Why are Lore rewards still so low? just reminded me about my first time in ARF about 2 months back:

Before queuing as a SMN (or maybe WHM i forgot exactly), and since I wanted the duty to be as smooth as possible and did not care about spoilers, I pre-emptively memorized the boss mechanics. So I was motivated for it.

So the duty starts:

Me: "Hello"
- no answers from anyone -

Me not long after: "It looks like a big dungeon"
- no answers from anyone -

So we just fight and all goes well, monsters seems to die quickly and after we finish the first "blocked room", I notice no chest drop. So I'm thinking chest is probably at some bigger boss.
But as we progress deeper into the dungeons, still no chest drop.

Me: "Is there no boss chest drop in this dungeon?"
- no answers from anyone -

We finish the dungeon without any issue and faster that what I was expecting, and then the 3 other players just go instantly *poof* without a word as soon the duty end.

Talk about social interaction xD!

Could they have not even say "hello" or is just that because they saw "player is new to this duty blabla" at the start , they felt like i was not worth being replied to :p

Not my story but, my friend on A12N said this to his party "No one enters time gate exept me and BRD"
He was NIN full iL270. During gates they did what he said.
He killed 3 adds inside (used LB on one) , BRD handeled his own.

He left with zero commendations.

Just had my very own DF derp moment.

Got Nidhogg in a trial queue as SCH, and the second tank on the list pulled and MT'd so I opened the party list to sort them up one slot so my muscle memory could target them easier. (Side note: I love when people heads up who is MT before a fight starts, since I like being prepared!) Unfortunately, this coincided with the first set of aoe puddles and I got caught right in the middle of all four thus wiping me within about 30 seconds of the fight starting. The other healer was a boss, and rezzed me right away. But I'm obviously feeling all sorts of horrible shame.

Cut to halfway through the fight after his transformation when he spawns the five aoe markers followed by the column strikes... I get one of the markers so run to the edge and as I'm running to get back into position behind him all of the column aoe attack converge right where I am making it unavoidable damage no matter which way I run. I manage to find a way to run to only take damage from 2 of the hits and survive, but then the full arena wing attack comes and instead of facing north-south like he has been the rest of the fight he is facing east-west and I end up stuck in the far reaches of it and die a second time. That one was a bit of dumb luck, but still it's my second death and I'm feeling super dumb. :( Again, the other healer is a boss and rezzes me almost instantly.

Thankfully I managed to get through the rest of the fight unscathed. I'm normally not that bad, honest! Sorry random guys and gals. :(

I just had a fun Halatali run on my alt.

Throughout the entire run I, as a Lancer, noticed that the SCH was constantly dpsing without cleric stance, doing close to zero damage. Then I took the risk and asked: "Hey name, why are you not using cleric stance while dpsing? Just curious".

They then stopped, let the tank die (lol) and replied: "I dps and the fairy heals. That's how Sch works".
Me: well ya, but you do no damage if you don't pop cleric"
The Dead Tank: "your head do no damage!"

At this point I rly thought I was gonna get booted based on the horror stories in here. But then the tank continued: "hurry up and turn cleric on you nub" .
Turns out they were all on voice chat having fun with eachother. The SCH then, to my surprise, proceeded to properly dps with cleric after this, even oudpsing the poor thaumaturge. Lol

I want to cry after being a disgrace to the AST class today. I let 3 tanks die in three roulettes today. Dungeons. I let tanks die in dungeons. I let a tank die during Poqhiraj. I let a tank die during trash mobs. I let a tank die in freaking Copper Bell Mines for gods sake. I usually beat myself up when I make a mistake, but today it just snowballed into something worse. ED wouldn't register, Stance Dancing was so hard for me today. My tanks weren't mean to me at all -- they even gave me their commendation (I was running with 2 other FC mates) -- which made me worse cause I felt like an absolute piece of garbage at the end of the dungeons. I could blame my keyboard cause its a pos, but I've been fine before so what's the point :(.

When that happens I just have to throw myself into full autopilot mode (easier to do if I'm tired, I'll autopilot myself to the finish and then crash out, but it kills my sleeping pattern!) and then just say to myself "Sod this, tomorrow's another day"

I think part of the problem with many of the issues people have is that some treat others sort of like NPCs instead of people. They refer to them as 'my tank' or 'my healer', or they call people in their parties by their job, such as "BRD put on WM" or "AST, why are you in Noct?" instead of the name very clearly displayed in the party frame. I know not everyone wants to type out names, or even look or care about such things, but I think acknowledging that the people you're with for those 20-40 minutes are actual other people with feelings, be they feelings of inferiority or superiority, would go a long ways towards having better DF experiences. I always say 'hi' at the beginning of dungeons and such even if there is no response, because I hate feeling like I'm running with AI bots instead of humans, which is the point of MMOs, I'd hope ^^

There is also a time and a place for things, after a wipe when people are feeling frustrated is not the best time to desconstruct a persons ability. That can be frustrating on it's own but I'm not going to be able to re-educate an ice mage in the middle of the Vault. I'm most certainly not going to do it if I open up with an insult followed by a snarky criticism. In those circumstances I have to accept a longer run and deal with it, if the instance involves a DPS check then I'd better put my big boy pants on and make up for the short fall. It's not a solution to poor players but it is the reality of online gaming, and life in general. Fortunately DPS checks are not too bad these days after SE toned them down a bit so I usualy just roll my eyes and do my bit.

Also, diplomacy. We see it here all the time when someone claims to have "just tried to help" and decided the best thing to do was to name, shame and then generally behave like a prat towards another player because they feel superior. Progression raid content aside if you're so good then just make up for the short fall and shut up, the run will be over quicker and with significantly less stress than if you decide "help" by having a ten minute argument about WM or using DoTs.

I had an ... interesting run doing Main Scenario Roulette yesterday as WAR. Finally got it to 60, yay.

So I go in, land in The Praetorium, and I notice that the other Tank is also a WAR. He had less HP than me and he was a mentor. So I put on Defiance so I could Main Tank the run but just as the duty started he activated Defiance and ran ahead. Which is fine, I like offtanking.

So anyway filler filler filler and we get to the first boss and we are waiting for him to pull and he drops Defiance. I was confused, but I'm not really one to start crap over silly things like this so I main tank the boss.


5 things I noticed while doing the boss:

1. Once it started he put on Defiance.
2. He never used Fracture or Storm's Eye/Path
3. He never had Maim or Berserk active
4. He spammed Overpower and Skull Sunder
5. Used Infuriate randomly mid fight and sat on stacks

So after the fight I asked him if he wanted to main tank or if he wanted me to do it, since there was little reason for both of us to be in Defiance. He said nothing so I decided to drop Defiance for now. On the next set of adds it was chaos, he couldn't hold hate so I went back to main tanking.

The next two bosses went quick but he was acting very strange. I main tanked but at the start of the first he Tomahawk > Provoke > Infuriate Just as we got to the room (no ranged LB rip). I took the boss from him immediately but it was very confusing lol.

On Ultima I asked him if he knew how to combo as a WAR and I asked why he used Overpower on bosses. Nothing. I main tanked the rest of the run but he kept using Provoke whenever it was off cooldown and spammed Overpower and Skull Sunder. Again, he was a mentor with multiple level 60s. It finished and he left immediately. I thanked everyone for the run, blew a kiss (instead of a wave) and left.

I received zero commendations. _._

Like. I don't even know anymore.

@Artemiz. Yeah there's a time and place for "helping". And tone and wording can play a factor in how it's recieved. But think about this ice mages in the vault... lvl 58! That's 30 levels or more of dungeons. Lets saaaaay 100 dungeons. Maybe less. But 10 minutes extra each dungeon. If it was in sastasha or copperbell, hell, even DD, that's when you are polite and nice. Otherwise the next party this guy lands in has to deal with it too.

PotD, floors 31-40.

Had a Bard or Dragoon (can't remember anymore) who'd always sit down at the Cairn of Passage as soon as we found it, while the rest of us proceeded to clear the remaining rooms.
Naturally, I told him how much of great help he was.
He responded with things such as

"I just wanna get this done quickly" (not saying anything and sitting around won't help him speed up the run, but he didn't realize that)

"I don't care what the majority of the party wants, I can't be bothered" (go play solo or with friends)

Well, what did I do?
I implied that I was going to vote dismiss him shortly before the boss and he realized that.
Suddenly, he helped us clearing the rooms.
Problem solved.

Time for two good, though short, stories!

I got the Guildhest that's... I think the very first one, actually. The one with the Goobue and other assorted trash? Basic Training or something? Anyway! We all know how this usually goes: someone (not always the tank) runs in pulls all the things ever, mash keys, victory. Well for the first time in 3 years, I had a group actually perform it according to the game text. The tank pulled each pack, one at a time, and then everyone stayed outside of the black circle of doom. Once those enemies spawned, we also pulled each set, one at a time, and finished off the Goobue by itself. I'm not saying it was any faster or more efficient, but it was kinda nice seeing people perform accordingly with how the game intended.

I also had a 14 minute Tam-Tara Deepcroft full of newbies. They may have been alts, but I had a tank confidently pulling multiple packs at a time and MCH that really knew how to pump out some aoe on trash. It's nice to have moments that restore your faith in the players when you find some gems amidst the rubble.

I mean, part of the reason no one does is because tanks at that level don't have a ranged pulling option, and teaching players that anyone else should be pulling is kinda dumb.

I went into a trial the other day and saw a bonus, so I did a quick rundown of the mechanics and got called bossy for doing so.

Sorry I don't want the first trial roulette that I run in the year 2017 to be a wipe of the darn Chrysalis.

I've met a lot of players who prefer to wipe repeatedly than be told how a fight works.

Theorically you can find a player who wants the pleasure to discover and solve the mechanics by himself, the same way people did when the content was first released. Not everyone wants the answers handed to them.
But honestly I think these kind of players are practically rare :p

Funny I was just reading the last couple of pages and going "man, am I glad I don't meet these bossy elitists". And karma bit me hard in the ass when my roulette dinged. It was a 14min in prog Aurum Vale. Load in, say my greetings, notice one of the members is going batshit crazy ranting over the tank and healer. Also noticed he was a mentor.

Oh boy. Fun times. NOT.

Throughout the run, said mentor was busy snarking and commenting but never really giving any advice to the two newbies. Sometimes, he'd go into one of his savage rants so hard, he'd be standing still raving while I was plugging away at the mobs. At final boss, after bitching at healer for not healing him (dude seriously, why didn't you eat the damn fruit??), his attention turned to me for failing to aoe enough and "why didn't you use Flare. Fail blm, fail mentor, fail this fail that" on and on, even after I told him AV is max level synced to 49 and Flare is a lvl 50 skill. Also, why on earth would I use F2 on a singular target, unless I missed some memo that F2 is the new F1? And in case he didn't realized, I've been carrying his stupid ranting arse in the dungeon. I felt so bad for the newbies that I pmed them after the run to tell them that they did great and to ignore the troll mentor.

Horee shait, I'm still not sure if the dude was high or something, but that was the most impressive (negative) rant I've ever seen, considering the amount of crap he could spew. I frankly think it outbeats the troll monk with se commands on all of his skills.

Went into Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak as a CNJ, fight was pretty uneventful until the last boss which started with the ARC single casting protect on everyone even though it wasn't running out??? Neither DPS was trying to get rid of the pods so I did it. LNC started dancing in the poison instead of attacking Graffias' Tail and I ran out of MP trying to keep him alive. Everyone but the ARC ended up dying because she could heal herself and replenish MP, then acted smug at the end for it. That fight would've gone a lot better if you'd taken out the pods to begin with. My bad for trying to keep the LNC alive though, some dps just have a deathwish : /

Lately when I come into this thread it's to share a tale of a party that left me feeling good rather than one that makes me want to pull all my hair out :o Maybe because bad or mediocre teams are so commonplace that they just don't surprise you anymore :rolleyes:

Was in a11 (normal) a couple of weeks ago, had a couple of new people and some others that had cleared before but clearly weren't used to the aoe fest in the later parts of that fight - it started out bad; people kept dying left and right to that one mechanic that's actually like, three mechanics happening at once (the little turret things casting line aoes, the optical sight with the smaller light circles that appear clockwise, followed by propeller wind).

It was hard for me and the other healer to keep up (specially because the other healer also kept dying and I can only do so much while trying to avoid mechanics myself - not gonna lie, I sometimes find it hard to keep healing up 100% while dealing with that specific phase). This went on for like, two or three wipes, and I was about ready to accept a vote abandon should one come up.

Enter mentor WAR, a huge hulk of a male roe, calmly asks "Alright, what seems to be the problem?", everyone proceeds to state their issues - even the ones that had been grumbling about what a trainwreck that team was - including myself who asked about the infernal optical sight, WAR explains everything succintly and concisely... and we kill, finally :)

This might not seem like much of a tale, but it just left me feeling so satisfied... helpful mentors are a rare sight, and this one in particular left an impression because he was what I imagine mentors "should" act like - intervening when people are clearly having trouble, without being condescending, explaining things clearly and efficiently. Sadly I don't remember their name :(

You know, I've always thought you had to have everyone standing in the circle for the enemies to appear, because that's always what happened - empty circle for ages, then everyone moves in, and there they are. And it never made sense that the game was wanting us to pull them separately when we were already standing in aggro range for all and had no choice. So I guess I learned something today. :)

Just had a horrible 50 roulette, one of the dps and the healer are in my FC and leveling alts so although I can appreciate they are still learning thier classes at level 50 they were below par, but that's something I can help them work on, my gripe was the other random dps who was a mentor and on thier main (260 relic and full shire build) firstly not a single word was said by this mentor, 2nd not a single mechanic was followed by this "mentor" which pair with the low heals lead to many wipes, they then just ate the penalty and left without saying a word before the final boss. Replacement dps comes in and we clear the rest without any wipes. As a mentor myself I can see why some people view mentors negatively. I wish we could suggest people return thier mentor crowns.

This isn't going to be a rant or anything (even though my team wiped 2 times) but I ran Trial Roulette a couple of days ago and got dropped into Titan HM.

One of the WHM had Medica macroed with "get your healing from Medica!" I just... why? Not only can you not queue Medica that way but it's unneeded chat clatter.

Alexander - The Breath of the Creator... I'm tanking and we meet a level 60 conjurer without any other class/jobs leveled except for DoHs and DoLs.. And take note that 28k HP is because he's using fending accs.

3 DPS died due to lack of healing, the CJR used single target cure to top up HP and the other healer, an AST was too focus on DPSing.. In the end, the AST trolled the party by using ice trap and killed the conjurer.. We cleared it.

When being asked bout his Conjury nature, he kept spouting "Intellect not for everyone."

Just had a pretty bad self fail.

I'm leveling my DRG and queued for leveling roulette. Ended up getting Titan normal.

For most of the run I was doing everything right. But towards the end of the fight, I ended up using Jump and somehow I managed to get shoved off the edge. I didn't even think it was possible to get shoved off the edge in normal mode.

But somehow I managed to get three commendations still.

Now I think I see why DRG gets picked on so much.

So, I was helping a buddy do the CT series to get an Aether Oil tonight. Ran it on WAR and by heavens the tanks tonight were... special.

CT - Well, tanks not really pulling skeletons to safe areas, Bone Dragon itself getting moved to some random spot on the map (neither centre nor North), tank wanting to tank the wrong Vasago, my claiming to be IG tank and having literally four tanks fight for me on aggro on the IG afterwards. What's funny I had zero competition from the other tanks on the third IG because, according to my buddy, apparently all the other tanks had died to ecliptical meteor.. go go WAR HP >>;

ST and WoD - Just the two DRKs fighting for hate on every single boss almost. Twas amusing but I can imagine the healers getting quite annoyed at them overall. Cerberus was particularly fun since neither MTs knew how to move Cerb's bum from out of the wall after a charge. Bonus points to the MT DRK who provoked Cerb at an angle and put me smack dab in the middle of his rear arc so I couldn't dodge the tail blow immediately afterwards.

I guess it was one of those nights.

Random shoutout to the WHM who used a power ranger pose every time Xande teleported and did nothing else as far as I can see.

I have encountered this guy just a couple min alongside with his peasents in a9. the fight was longer then savage that is all i say. i just said to all of them " i hope u guys are just trolling... if not, then it is really sad that almost the entire party is not able to play correctly. Both Madison fights were hilariously bad - I marked Madison with a 3, so he went straight to him. The thm tanked one of the adds, and he kept kiting it while the lnc chased him around. The second Madison, I mentioned the dogs would come out, and he only went to the dogs after the lnc had killed two while I was tanking them. Not one single word from the mrd. And while he was new, not impressed.

The thm didn't really need any coaching at all, he was using Sleep on adds like a champ. Just before the last boss, I even told him he did a very nice job using Sleep.

The lnc wasn't keeping Heavy Thrust up, but after I suggested he should, he did. I explained the last boss fight to them all, but told them that they could ignore the adds, I could heal through them. Easy peasy.

In the end, I was torn between the two dps for comm, but I gave it to the lnc. He said not a word, but he was paying attention.

Don't feel bad,its goon's nature.you'll get used to it.
And most healers are ..well.. understand this nature so when the goon died they ain't surprise,not even angry,its normal circumstances.
