THE END
Last night I was trying to farm Bray HM for some fast myth. Tank runs in gives me no time to cast protect or stoneskin. I ask him why he didn't give me a second to apply buffs and his reply was “ I can cast my own stoneskin." Before I have time to explain to him that his protect is gimped he runs in and pulls the entire room and dies. That was my last run for the night lol.
My worse horror story up to now happened in Stone vigil
I should have seen the signs, he applied to party finder, and wrote the 'no rage quits'
So we start, bard was taking emnity on single hits, had to autoatack.
I couldnt heal, even after he flashed and lobed i still got emnity. my pet was getting emnity. but he was flashing and lobing. so he did have skills as a player...
We pushed forward, then we get to boss.
Imagine the surprise, that boss autoattack could shave his sorry amount of hp in half. then i grab emnity cause i heal and boss turns to me, then fairy grabs it cause she heals me and she dies cause she cant get away fast enough
after the nth time i stay at the beginning and ask 2 questions:
Whats your ilvl?
where did you put your attribute points?
I really hate to ask questions like these, but i had to
Where i get the answer:
ilvl 28
attribute points all in intelligence.
Beautiful
yep.
Thankfully, after a couple of hours of him farming seals for redistribution item and updating his gear accordingly i received a tell thanking me for my advise and asking me to heal again in Stone Vigil. which was completed without a hitch all the way to last boss
so all ended well i guess. Still a horror story :)
Funny part was that right before i started Stone Vigil i completed Garuda normal. As a rookie. with full rookie party. noone knew what was doing. we died 4-5 times trying to realize the mechanics and the run after just took away all my excitement -_-
Some people are arrogant.
Some people are jaded from dealing with the far more common 'don't tell me what to do!' idiots.
Some people really don't want to help people when this game is rather simple when it comes to class mechanics at later levels (I still scratch my head when I run into people that don't get how their class, or even their role works around brayflox level. Most blame FATEs for that).
Can't blame the 3rd group of people I listed too harshly because people not reading their own abilities, or not applying common sense is a shockingly common situation.
I blame it on arrogance mostly.
To be fair though, most players that either had a problem doing something, or never got a mechanic or skill ability usage, usually are overly bashed by alot of players. We cant just put blame on most who, when they see their name pop up in chat, they automatically assume its something against them and they screen it. Thats how i see it at least, my honest opinion.
As with everything, just destroying the bad idea they have and giving good advise can really turn someone 180 degrees and make him more compliant to advise.
On the other hand, ive met trolls...
Brayflox HM, tank ilvl 110 gear for the majority.
Go in (with a party of three from my server, couldn't get a damn tank on the PF lol), ask if he minds a run to second boss and reset. Was then asked "if your doing speed runs, why using DF?" to which we explained the above. He decided he wanted a full run, so we said yep, fair play let's go for it.
He sods off without stoneskin or protect, pulls everything the whole way, wipes, rages at me . When asked why he sodded off without buffs, told the same thing "i'll do my own" usual story about explanations. First boss, 4 wipes, but didn't bother to clear the mob just before the doors so kept wiping on THE WAY there lol.
Got though it eventually, but aye, was more of a pain than anything.
it might not apply in all situations, but its mostly correct though.
If the tank dies its the healer who is at fault usually (unless an undergeared tank assumes to imitate what he saw in youtube whereas the youtuber could have been well geared, whereas the emulator had nothing of value to show than a broken arrogance)
If the healer died the tank usually is at fault, unless healer popped cleric stance and wasnt confident enough to use it and forgo healing thus stealing aggro even before the tank made contact. Or left CS and healed thinking he could make it work)
If the DDs die usually its their fault, because with competent (used loosely) tank would strive to not lose aggro, and a healer should, theoretically, only heal tank and top buffs to DDs as appropriate.
Have another one. and this time is half my fault.
and i explain
You know when you sync to lower dungeon and you feel BOSS cause you think there is nothing you cannot do?
No cigar people. when syncing there is a clear and definite numerical value to your class. Nothing OP, nothing much. you are essentially the lvl of the dungeon +2 lvls in numerical values.
So we go Bray normal. Tank on lvl. me sync. and tank proceeds to rush though and grab all under the sun. I was so smug about myself that i totally failed to keep tank alive.
Obviously, tank at fault for grabbing all when on level. and my fault for feeling better than i was.
We did finish in the end, but boy was that a wake up call
I'm talking about the ones that use it on themselves while I'm casting protect or even loading into the instance. Also the guys that use protect before all players are loaded in and the ring drops (it won't land on anyone watching a cutscene) then run off as soon as the duty is commenced.
So here is a new one: Titan Hm in roulette. Fine can solo heal it. OT has a nap at bottom of cliff phase 3, fine its only an OT. Post heart, healing partner dies, it fine, can solo heal. Then MT disconnects, oh dear lord, NOT fine, titan massacres 2 of the 4 dps, about to come after me. MT reconnects just in time, provokes off me! Healing people back to full health, tricky to catch up after everything that has gone on. LB 3 fills, dead people want healer LB, would be sensible, give my mana a respite. Nope, Dragoon LB, doesnt kill titan. Have to keep healing in bad situation. Titan dies eventually and what do i get? I get abuse off the Dragoon....."If you cant solo heal titan at your level....." etc etc etc. Can solo heal fine, but Dragoon, consider what happened in the run first...."
Ugh, that's pretty awful for helping to carry the team through that mess.
Anyway, I feel a lot of times that DPS develop a sort of tunnel vision. Experience with other classes helps alleviate it, but they're still not required to watch party members the same way as healers are. As long as the tank and healer are up, they don't have to pay attention to anything except their own rotation and dodging. It takes something like the end of the fight or a dead tank to snap them out of it. More likely than not, he had those blinders on and assumed you let the tank drop dead when they actually dced.
So yeah. I went into Trials DR and got Titan Hardmode. There were 2plds 1whm 2drg and 2 bards.
The better geared pld had bad connection and DC'd mulitple times (he was the mt, or tried to be) at some point he fell off cause who knows why and the other tank had to take over, well. He was barely over the ilvl requirement for the fight and you know what that means right? Alot of damage on him. And on top of that: he didn't put shield oath on and popped EVERY CD on succession during Heart phase, which means he didn't have any CD for the coming MB. I spammed the chat with shield oath and <se.1> but either he's the worst tunnelvizioner or he just wanted to be a dbag and not listen and put it on. The moment he replies "SHUT UP I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING" he got an MB to his face and died. The whm had died to WotLs earlier and wasn't up yet, but I had casted SS and Adlo on the tank, didn't help with his gear. He went ape shit on me for not keeping him alive. The other tank explained that he died to the MB cause he's gear was low and he had no defensive CDs up to mitigate it(or even the shield oath). (He didn't listen me obv). On 2nd run same happened. Though this time I fell off cause I got hit by Landslide while I treid to get him put he sheild oath on. Then, cause I fell he started insulting me for being bad and all usual stuff. On 3rd run the better tank didn't lag so he could tank. The other tank fell off and instantly started insulting me for nothing, he just had the time to do so since he was dead. He kept on going with how we can't kill it cause I suck and only concentrate on typing/advising and not healing. In the end I was solohealing it from 40% to0% with tumult count at 12.. thank god I had the other bard and 1 drg alive(I didn't get gaoled thank god). After titan was as dead as a being made of rock can be, the tank went silent, he didn't say anything 'bout me or the run or anyone else, just waited for him to get the shield that dropped and left. That showed him.
(Once I get home and on PC I'll edit all typos out)
That Dragoon is a derp, plain and simple. If he hadn't gone all Billy Badass and used the LB for Final Heaven, then the run would've been easier to finish. Half your party was dead (through no fault of yours, how are you to blame if the MT disconnects or if your healing partner eats a WoTL?) and he wants to get on your case? You finished the run in a terrible situation. That speaks volumes to your ability as a healer.
True. Even as a tank main, I find myself not paying as much attention to party hp levels and such while DPS'ing. The difference is, I tend to ask "What happened?" rather than simply laying into someone.
Yes. Yes it did. Any tank that says "I know what I'm doing" while tanking Titan with no Shield Oath is lying. ;3
The story occurred yesterday in Bayflox Hard where the tank didn't generate the aggro (didn't even use flash) so the mobs were all on me and I had to tank.
He and his bard friend only laughed about it when I said "Use flash!!" (I can read Japanese a little bit) Then they decided to vote dismiss me (WTF?)
Ps. Might be because I asked them to do the speed run
DEAR MELEE DPS,
I hate you. You are the worst class in the game. Please stop telling me to keep the tank alive and it's my fault we got wiped... when I had to turn my attention off of the tank to heal you because you were getting your ass kicked. Please stop pulling mobs when it's not your job. Please stop standing in AOEs. Please stop standing out of my line of sight on Garuda. Please stop telling me your main is a WHM, then assuming you are so good you should coach me. Thank you.
Love,
Draven
Halatali story mode in duty roulette, nobody was new in that run so i thought it would be easy but ... tanks pulls three mobs, dragoon activates the chains and three more mobs appear. it takes both me and blm spamming cure on the tank just to keep him alive, later both tank and dragoon standing i bomb aoes and get one shot, me and blm have to finish off the remaining mob while the others sprint back, can't rez in battle at that lvl. blm got my recommendation for this one.
Aurum Vale, tank and one or both dps getting hit by bad breath, and not eating fruit.
And its at this point you scream to yourself "eat the fruit, EAT THE FRUIT". Then as healer, get blamed for not using esuna/leeches ...........its fine, everyone has only what, 6ish debuffs on them, that will take no time at all to get rid of them......ahem :)
I feel your pain there.
Unfortunately this seems to be the norm now in trial roulette now, people doing very weird things then expecting the healer to drag them through it no matter what. I have come across several people in garuda HM who now tell people to ignore the feathers, "its ok, we over-gear this content now" is their justification. One run the new people listened to the tank who gave this advice, reckoning kills everyone but the tanks. It would be nice if people understood that over-gearing content does not mean you can ignore some mechanics!
I had to esuna off every single debuff. I was OOM, with both SoS and x-ether on CD.. at our final attempt everyone died except the tank and I. I had like 200 hp left, and the boss had like 1% left. I threw an aero as a last hurrah (and it was the only useful thing I could do with the mp I had left), and the tank managed to somehow take it down.
Did I mention our first tank kept on accidently using LB? yeah.
a SCH told me that in cleric stance he has more healing power, me MRD undergeared and new to lvl 28 dungeon he was a ilvl 80+....I kept dieying (4-5 mobs always on me)..he never healed eos couldnt keep up with damage output and so was a nightmare for me...LOL...I am still wondering if the guy was just trolling if so...should deserve to be kicked and never let to play again.
Mei
Was in Cutters Cry, and the DPS didn't know how to avoid AOE, so I couldn't possibly keep up. The same DPS got killed around the same time each time, even though I would heal him to 100% and then they booted ME!?!?! Whiskey tango foxtrot, over. Was made because I didn't raise him. Um... Hello, still takes about 2 seconds to raise, even with Swiftcast, and there are 3 other people in the party as well as myself taking damage. Doesn't do much good to raise one and lose the tank on the final boss, and now that's a 28 second process. Felt sorry for the next healer.
Ran Titan for the first time as a healer (had done it as a BRD several times), and though we beat him (after 3 wipes!!!), one of the DPS kept going over the edge at about the same time every run. You might think, "That happens", but it wasn't when you expect. It was as if he was jumping off. There was no stomp, no red rings, nothing. He would just disappear, and he'd be on the bottom. Can't heal that. :D
Not really a horror story, just funny.
FC mates were bringing me through Wanderer's palace for the first time, and the Summoner who joined us hadn't done it either. So, it was pretty enjoyable, lots of room for things to go wrong. My FC mates have been introducing me to bigger pulls lately, so I'm ready for later content, but we're cutting it close with the Tonberry Stalkers.
Anyway, we're in the last room before the King, and we're having a bit of trouble with the trash. The Summoner's been hanging back a bit and doesn't realize that the Stalker's on top of him until it's too late; he goes down. Bard and I run into the safe corner while our Warrior tries to finish up the trash, running to the corner once they're done for.
(the exciting conclusion below!)
...But it's too late: she's already grabbed aggro and the Stalker follows her into the corner. While our Bard finishes up the last door, my swiftcast comes back and I raise the Summoner. By this time, the Warrior and Bard have made it through the door, so the Summoner decides to try and slip around the Stalker and through the door.
Wrong move. The Stalker throatstabs him and he goes down a second time. Fortunately, I decide to kite the Stalker away from the door and sprint past. I get the Summoner back up (who had actually made it over the threshold into the room, just bad timing I guess), and we finish up, no problem.
Again, not really a horror story, just a fun mishap. Made that first run a bit more memorable.
Just in copperbell HM and on Gogmagolem. The tank decides to not tank and do the bombs instead telling me that it can't be tanked and it's hate is all random. Funny that I have never been always first on its threat meter ever until today...
Just unlocked scholar, added Swiftcast, Protect and Cleric Stance as my 3 cross skills. DF and got low level party. Halfway through the dungeon, bomb blows DPS up, and after the fight he wants raise. Ok, np. Cast Swiftcast Rezz macro.... and nothing. My level is too low. I apologize, said he'd have to return and shortcut, as saying this, ACN walks over and casts raise. Dammit, Ressurect is higher level....
Titan HM for Duty Roulette as a SCH. Everyone is over 4K HP so I'm thinking "well, it can't be that bad".
One SMN doesn't know how to dodge.
Other SCH keeps dying due to lag.
One DRG keeps dying due to lag.
We wipe on first attempt because half the people die immediately after post heart due to plumes. The PLD with 8K HP calls a wipe then jumps off the cliff. Wipe ensues (though I do my hardest to keep everyone alive anyway, much to the chagrin of two individuals, claiming that it would take longer just to kill Titan if we kept going this route)
2nd attempt, same thing happens. Other SCH complains plumes aren't stacked enough and kept dying to plumes (I didn't know this was Titan EX). I managed to keep people up through the third rotation of stomps on P5 but no one is accepting raises as they just want to wipe again. -.-
Third attempt goes by mostly without a hitch. Somehow the DRG gets landslided off, SMN only died twice (didn't raise on the 2nd time) and the SCH only died once. No issues, keep everyone alive, away we go.
Silver lining - five commendations.
