I thought retrieval only affected the yield of items? Ie whether you get single digits or double digits of any item type where multiples are possible? If it affects getting multiple different items from the same zone then ... asdsdfdgfg. Gotta build more submarine parts to fix.
Also for favor I know there isn't proof but I thought the general consensus was that it might affect the odds of obtaining rare items?
From what I've seen and understood so far, Surveillance has a minimum requirement to put items on the loot table. Retrieval affects how many attempts you have on a zone and possibly the amount of materials you acquire. Favor affects the weather conditions and the quality of the items picked up.
I could be wrong on these, but that's what it seems like to me.
Based on that assumption would it be worth test a CSCS build for 180 Sur, with 80 gathering?
Its only 5 slower then the CWCC build that i see people using. I avoided due to the low speed, but if Gathering could add addtional items to the loot table, then RNG gets checked that many more times.
I have tried a new build, basically hitting up all the good spots at once. xD Coel-Coel-Syl-Syl. Hopefully that will get me something rare. http://prntscr.com/mlan9n It takes forever though! xD
I'm currently running two Kamacite farming Haulers, a 3-Node Boat, and a Speedboat build for my Submarines:
Hauler Type:
Currently running the CWWC build. It's taking about 3 days and 10 hours (which I'm rounding to 4 days for checkup) to make the journey between Flickering Dip to the Rimilala Shelf. Assuming I can procure my own Kamacite and don't intend to sell it (because they're still highly valued at the time of writing), I may upgrade these to CSySySy type hulls. The same journey will take a slightly longer time of 3 days and 19.3 hours (closer to my 4 day checkup) and should sport a large increase to Surveillance, Retrieval, and even Favor. With 95 range, it should hit 2 of the high-end nodes comfortably.
Route A: Flickering Dip (Y) > The Rimilala Shelf (V) (3 days, 19 hours, 19 minutes)
Route B: Sunken Vault (AD) > Stone Temple (AC) (4 days, 43 minutes)

3-Node Boat:
I'm still unsure if this ship is going to pan out as worthwhile, but I had the parts on hand to try it out. CWCC sports a large 175 Surveillance, a meager 40 Retrieval, and a high enough range to hit Deep-Sea Site 7, Rimilala Shelf, and Flickering Dip in a single run lasting 4 days and 2 hours (just over my 4 day checkup). Considering the drawbacks of attempting to gain Range by losing Retrieval, I may opt to turn this boat into another Hauler or Speedboat instead. A possible sidegrade I might consider depending on the Abroader Otter requirements would be a CUSyC build in order to increase the voyage speed by to 2 days and 21.6 hours (3 days checkup) to hit the nodes more often. If that Odder ends up being in the ballpark of a ridiculously high Surveillance, another build idea would be CWUSy that keeps 170 Surveillance and a small increase to 50 Retrieval at a loss of a Speed to 5 days, 7 minutes (5 days checkup).
Route A: Deep-Sea Site 7 (W) > The Rimilala Shelf (V) > Flickering Dip (Y)
Route B: Deep-Sea Site 7 (W) > Sunken Vault (AD) > Stone Temple (AC)

Speedboat:
I'm working on this design with the idea of hitting Deep-Sea Site 7 and a single end-game node in mind. My current build is a CUUU, but I feel it's hardly worth the mention due to the severe lack in the required Surveillance or Retrieval we're starting to figure we'll need (though it does sport a fast 100 Speed and 95 Range, working great for unlocking nodes on the cheap). Therefore, let me propose a different solution.
With the hopeful assumption that the Odder drops with a Surveillance rating equal to or less than 150, the CCSyC would be able to make a run from Deep-Sea Site 7 and a single end-game node (Stone Temple or Sunken Vault) in 2 days and 4 hours (just above a 2 day checkup). It also sports a decent 65 Retrieval and a large 140 Favor, possibly contributing a bit to the "luck" factor as well.
Route A: Deep-Sea Site 7 (W) > Sunken Vault (AD) (2 days, 2 hours, 24 minutes)
Route B: Deep-Sea Site 7 (W) > Stone Temple (AC) (2 days, 4 hours)
Route C: Sunken Vault (AD) > Stone Temple (AC) (2 days, 6 hours, 21 minutes)

I assume you thought I meant Coel,Shark,Coel,Shark. Do we have an agreed upon abbreviation for shark vs Syldra?
I was thinking about Coelacanth, Syldra, Colacanth, Syldra
https://img2.finalfantasyxiv.com/acc...9670b75dee.jpg
I use Sh and Sy, but I knew what you meant, and it has 80 retrieval
I ran a WCCC build to The Ramiliea Shelf, which has 110 retrieval, and repeatedly received the "poor retrieval levels" message.
Is there even another option then? I cant imagine them releasing more submarine parts before Shadowbringers and to get over 110 retrieval your surveillance gets so low its not worth the trip. I assume its set high to keep the loot low overall.
Was your 110 retrieval during clear and calm seas still returning with "Poor Retrieval levels"?
Any one currently sending a C,SY,C,SY sub out on missions able to provide reports?
Just got my ship back with that build and got the poor rating, seems like the RNG weather heavily affected it. Sending it back out, same route.

In regard to what Favor does: I did a bunch of test runs and data gathering last spring, and with a variety of builds the main thing I discovered was this:
Favor of 90: Ships got two "rolls" (could bring back two items from each sector visited)
Favor below 90: Ships got one roll per sector
My conclusion was that a high favor gave more "bites of the apple", so to speak. I can't tell if it affects the odds that each roll will get you something very rare, but it does appear to determine how many rolls you get.

Side-Note: It feels like the Favor speculation of it being the stat that determines whether a ship makes multiple attempts at a single destination may have something to it. at 105 Favor, my ships are making between 1 and 2 attempts at the Rimilala Shelf (V) and the Flickering Dip (Y). One of the ships took a couple bad-weather events, so I'm wondering if Favor is possibly used as a form of HP value?

So the last sector for airships had a mount exchange item. I'm wondering if one of the last sub sectors has a mount available that no one has seen yet. Can only wait and see I guess.
I doubt it. They only added 3 mounts with the latest patch and we already know where those mounts come from. With the vast amount of FC's and submarines being sent out someone would definitely have gotten one by now as well. They may still add something though since we will get like..3 or 4 smaller patches still? Either that or maybe they will add something in Shadowbringers.

Side-Note: At Deep-Sea Site 7 (W), additional anomalies detected but submersible condition found insufficient. Going to do some further testing whether that's RNG or if that means the surveillance is too low for the Abroader Otter. Current relevant stat spread I'm using is 150 Surveillance, 65 Retrieval, and 140 Favor.

I'm thinking that might be less likely as well. Did a little research in the old Airships thread and the speculation was that the repair status of the ships didn't affect the actual voyage as so much as it just barred you from initiating them. Like I said, I'll keep running the fit and see if it was due to the Surveillance being too low. From the reports in this thread, I've only seen 175 Surveillance boats confirmed to have picked up the Otter.
your submarine failed the 2nd hit on the same sector which initially has a low rate of happening (screen the same sector again during the same voyage). I'm not sure which stat affect double visits to the same sector (could be Favor), but even with high stat, it would be still has low RNG. So, I wouldn't worry about that.
I got my Otter minion with a 145 surveillance. Though I got it only once maybe because of low favor of 100.
I think I'm coming to the conclusion that Favor is ultimately what determines if you get multiple hits on the same node. As a test, I had two different types of ship builds hit Deep-Sea Site 7 (with both having similar ratings and similar weather conditions):

CCSyC is by far more consistent in hitting the same zone twice whereas CWCC very rarely does beyond a single hit. I don't believe Speed and Range help in any meaningful way beyond the initial voyage settings (much like component durability). From the looks of it, Surveillance is a value that directly influences what items and what quality will end up on the loot table, with a minimum requirement set for specific items. Retrieval is a granular stat that affects the amount of items acquired when an item is discovered (excluding high-value items where a single drop is only possible). Finally, Favor must be acting as a luck value where it affects the amount of anomalies a ship will be able to observe at a single location.
After cross-checking what I'm observing with my own ships, the voyages reported here, and the information gathered in the old Airship thread, my best guess for how stats work is as follows:
All of these stats are subject to RNG conditions layered on top and higher stats may not yield better results in every voyage. I'll continue testing and processing my own observations along with findings made here. If possible, having a shiptype listed along with the results of an extraction would greatly help the process of narrowing down the evidence.
- Surveillance: Influences which items drop from the loot table per sector (Rarer items have minimum requirements). May also influence the discovery of new sectors.
- Retrieval: Influences the extraction rate of a dropped item. Affected by weather effects.
- Speed: Influences the duration of a voyage.
- Range: Influences the distance a ship may travel during a voyage.
- Favor: Influences the number of anomalies detected at a single destination. May also influence weather conditions encountered.
I've confirmed that you need high Surveillance to get Kamacite Ore. My ships with 110 surveillance never found any; I swapped parts to have ships with surveillance 130 and 135 and they've brought Kamacite Ore in nearly every trip.
I picked up an Otter few days ago with UWUC build. I only send this ship to Deep-sea Site 7 and done maybe 10 trips with it. Only one otter so far. Other ships prioritize unlocking other zones which I'm having horrible luck with, though I include Deep Sea Site 7 in those voyages as well. No luck on those either and those ships have 150 Surv.
The minimum surv for Otter must be 145 or lower, but the Otter itself is just so rare that there aren't many reports of it being found.

By the way on topic of the stats .. If what above is correct and Favor affects the odds of finding more anomalies per zone (more items) then what affects the odds of there being anomalies but you not being able find them? I'm referring to the message that's something along the lines of "Additional anomalies detected but submersible status insufficient for further exploration". I can't remember the exact wording but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. What's the point of having two hits per zone with enough favor if the other hit is still unreachable due to "insufficient levels".
Since its the topic of discussion on the thread, My C,SY,C,SY Sub brought back an Otter tonight. Mission time to Site 7 is 54 hours per trip.
https://img2.finalfantasyxiv.com/acc...a01d9980a5.jpg
I honestly don't know what is influencing some parts of the voyage, but this sub has 90 favor and only found one thing then departed. No missed, nothing else found sea conditions were Clear and Calm.
https://img2.finalfantasyxiv.com/acc...3c1dd9eb16.jpg
I hope we can pin it down as we get more missions reported in.
It's hard to pinpoint currently whether the second zone failing on the second anomaly is due to a lack of surveillance, weather effect disturbance, or if a rarer item on the second hit automatically fails due to some kind of reduced stat effect. Right now, I'm chalking it up to RNG for the second anomaly success rate. On paper, the first anomaly should still benefit from the full effects of the submersible stats and the CCSyC has had successful second anomalies in the last 3 or 4 trips it has taken (minus the report I made a couple posts ago regarding the missed anomaly issue).
For the ships I'm currently reviewing and considering for my own fleet, I'm enjoying the CCSyC fitting enough that I'm going to convert the Triple-Node ship into that instead. The two CWWC haulers are doing fine for the money invested and will probably be converted to CSySySy once Kamacite Ore drops to a lower gil value (still too profitable not to sell, lol).
Heya,
I have issues getting kamacite ore. Got some in the first days, but now I got nothing for weeks. Didn't change anything at the subs. It comes from sectors V and Y, doesn't it? Just to be sure.

I got the undersea spoils with the C-C-Syl-Syl, it is 165 hour trip but I am hitting all the nodes. xD
Just curious , what is the point of the R50 sites as they don't seem to have anything really worth checking out or am I missing something ?

Both ships are maintained and sent out at the same time. They were at low repair condition upon their return. This was purposefully done to test the repair condition hypothesis.
https://i.imgur.com/Q7beBPI.png
I'll be the first to admit that perhaps I may have been wrong that there could be a correlation between repair condition and anomaly exploration. Keeping this in mind, I'll be conducting more tests to see what the repair condition is when a double exploration anomaly fails. As per my previous posts, these ships have a consistent history of double hitting zones.
Edit: Another thing I noticed is that anomalies have failed immediately after finding a particularly rare item (Marine Wax Ester, Polarized Glass, etc.). Might be something else to keep in an eye on.
Edit 2: CCSyC came back from hitting Deep-Sea Site 7 and the Rimilala Shelf having found and collected from two anomalies per zone. The ship's condition was above 75% on all parts upon its return.
Another bit I noticed was that ships with a Favor of 95 and below are reporting single anomalies whereas mine are finding double anomalies at 105. I don't know if there's been a test yet to see if 100 Favor is a stat tier or something, but I find that to be a curious observation as well.
Kamacite Ore does indeed exclusively drop from the Rimilala Shelf (V) and Flickering Dip (Y). We've speculated in this thread that the minimum requirement for the item is around 135 Surveillance (at least, it has been the most consistent so far). The drop rate is on the rarer side, but having either a faster boat or a hauling boat to hit the zones usually yields more drops over time. Like I mentioned above, a shiptype that I might suggest looking into would be a CWWC ship due to their tendency to explore two anomalies per zone during their 3 day, 11 hour voyages.
