The combat speed is fine -- with how hectic some battles can get with regards to targeting, among other things, making the game any faster would just make it needlessly stressful.

I think the combat pace is PERFECT. Any faster and I would get overwhelmed. If your GCD decreased, so would the monsters to balance it out... just think for a sec. :3
My current concern is that all the faster casting/skilluse (Gear and Fairy) is in vain because of global cooldown!
This made me laugh so very hard. I will be chuckling all evening after reading this. Button smasher over a game that doesn't have active dodge abilities but require re-positioning the character model for selection of abilities that require knowing if one needs to swing or switch targets or use a multiple target ability. That can be done with a button smasher but really doesn't feel like it takes much skill. If I want button smasher then I go play FPS as that is where GCD can really hurt. The time it takes to reload makes all the difference on killing that tank before they run you over.
It depends on class. As a caster...as a HEALER...it feels very slow.
I will just assume the anti-GCD decrease crowd is more than likely melee/ranged dps where their actions are all more or less instant and does not require standing in one spot for 2-3 secs per action then having to wait another 2.5 secs to cast something else....
On plus side, this game must be great for 'clickers' since you have all the time in the world to react. :)
I like the combat pace. I wouldn't necessarily mind a 2.0 second base GCD, but I don't feel its necessary.
I hated WoW's 1.5 second CD. I mean, it ended up being more like a 1 second GCD for a lot of specs because Haste was often very good. But it just felt so spammy and trigger happy, particularly on DPS, who were never able to ever stop constantly doing something or their DPS would plummet.
On a side note, though, I do think skillspeed / spellspeed could stand to reduce the cast time / GCD more. Maybe it's different at high level, but I feel like those stats are terrible. I could have speed on every piece of gear and only see like a .1 second drop in cast time.
as someone who's progressing through Turn 5 of Bahamut's Coil, i couldn't disagree more with the OP. the GCD is fine and combat is in a decent place right now. although i strongly prefer 1.23's combat system and abilities for some classes/jobs, what we have is working just fine.
Yep, the pace is great for all the reasons posted above. Wouldn't change it at all.
Adding rumble/vibration to normal mob encounters for critical hits would increase the gameplay quite a bit. People who bought the game on ps3 were expecting this.
