Oh! I guess if it's got to be "stand and press a button" and you automatically got the fish every time it would be pretty dull. I mean it's already a little less exciting than facing off against the fish in a battle of lefty/righty, so I'd be happy if it were:

eg
50% chance to catch fish at your level
+up to 25% chance to catch based on full NQ gear
+up to another 10% chance if you've got HQ gear
+up to another 10% chance if you have max materia
+up to another 5% chance if you have max food

Which I presume is exactly what the Gathering skill will be used for by Fisherfolk.

But I found that message to be the most annoying message of all. "You sense something is there but cannot make the final cut" Why? All I do is make another strike in the exact same place as before and I would get it! But there was no real "fight" just another click. :(

I think the way they've done it well with "You can catch this fish or would you like to catch a Bigger fish with this fish you caught?" is a better idea. That way, it's not two clicks for 1 item. It's 2 clicks as a double or nothing bet to get something really nice right?

If it's just a run of the mill item I don't mind just picking them one after another like daisy-fishes. If I'm making more clicks I would like a bigger reward.

I would guess that place/time/weather/bait all toggle the facility to catch certain fish on. I hope the new fishing system is a combination of this and what I described above. Not long til we see for ourselves though!

I think most people are mistaken when it comes to how fish affect an in-game economy. From my understanding fish ruin the economy when they vendor for a decent chunk of change. This affects the economy by bringing more gil in to circulation, devaluing what's already there (Hyper-Inflation, this happened in FFXI at one point as a result of RMT, not necessarily from fishing, but from a large influx of gil). RMTs capitalize on this because they use bots, and it's very simple to just vendor things. How do you reduce the affect on the economy? Simple, reduce the price that you can vendor the fish for.

I think most of you are taking "It won't affect the economy" too literally. Making fish desirable on the AH does not affect the economy in the way you are thinking. At most, it'll lower the cost of things by creating alternatives.

I was clarifying my meaning with regard to Llen's post, not indicating a preference.

I personally would like to fight the fish like the updated system in FF XI. I didn't care for the mini-game in FF XIV 1.0, but I am not too keen on automatic fishing, either.

I do like for there to be a chance for failure, though. I don't want to feel like I could get away with pressing a single button and alt-tabbing out. That's why I like that I have to perform actions during crafting in this game and it isn't just "press a button and wait for the progress bar to complete" like most other mmorpgs these days.

Still better than real life fishing :P j/k
