You're trying to assert this as a mutually exclusive dilemma, which it isn't, irrespective of how much you want to scream otherwise. A player can take all those measures, e.g., ignoring them, then block listing them, being cautious what personal information or cross-platforms they divulge, but they can still expect that Square Enix beyond a certain point take matters in their own hand, similarly as they should expect law enforcement to take the matter into their hands should it spill to real life.

At this point you're just essentially trying to scorn people for seeking out additional (and perfectly reasonable) measures, your responses are akin to "They shouldn't be sanctioned because you have all the tools"


At this point I am more convinced you would rather propose "Maybe you should make a new character" rather than expecting reasonable enforcement of their own ToS.

I'm living proof it works. My issue in the past was the community itself.I jumped into thinking it'd be kind of like world of warcraft , big mistake on my part. cause a lot of emotional heartache.

Just move to another thread, man. Some of us like the multiplayer aspect of the MMO. They're literally built with socializing in mind. I think the million dollar company can take a little heat from people who are unhappy with the moderation team and/or the anti-harassment features available. Most people have been respectful and specifically listed their observations and issues with the current system. Blacklist only got expanded because we, the players, asked for it, and it's a massive improvement over the old system, even if it's imperfect. A plugin that only existed to track down other players got C&D because people brought attention to it. So people are gonna keep giving feedback on the forum RE expanding anti-troll features, IP bans, better GM communication etc. This is a designated place for that. You've made it very clear you don't think there's an issue with the way things are rn. So move on.

Let\nMe be more specific about that.I don't like the forced social conformity of it. I can't be who I am.I have to be what i'm allowed to be. Big fan of world warcraft made friends that i've still talk to today from Wrath/Cata, Life isn't as free as we had it at one and life takes you down different paths, but that bond is something that transcends the game itself. Xiv friends, the social glass isnt tempered, its for display, not handling. Try and handle it and it breaks in my experience.

It's hard then wanna make friends with people.When you see the the performance, the stage, the script youre expected to read. I get the uncanny valley feeling, that I'm being less of myself and more a comfort pillow to someone else.

No, im not making friends as much as Rping a person that makes them feel comfortable and sterile of anything that be seen as "rocking the boat". To do so I basically have to run my own personality and humor through multiple filters , just to talk to somebody , and by t.hen it's not worth saying anything. I'm running through more filters than actually just talking to people in person. They welcome identity, not personality. Your personality cant deviate too far from whats "acceptable", but your identity can stretch over the horizon.

Given my issues issues with the community , I limit my exposure to it. That filter keeps out the more maladjusted. Particular venues that are just "no go zones" (clubs) (low/No tolerance) anyone showing off weird social behaviors, either end the conversation or become a gray rock. They will get bored because you lack any movement. Once you start reacting, you are like a fish on the line.The squirming just confirms the bite.

If you accidentally bite , do not squirm , just simply sit at the bottom, they're waiting for a confirmation tug. If you don't give them that they will get bored and go cast out another line for someone else. That's the next person to either see the signs early an default to a uninteresting state.The tools can come, I've never argued against more tools. Im wondering when does the player take agency to protect their own experience in the here and now? Given the perfect tools don't exist yet.

Ironically, so much of this topic would have gone smoother if people had just blocked the posters who keep trying to victim blame and act like stalking/harassment isn't a problem.

It may not get rid of what they're doing (they're going to pop off their opinions regardless if anyone can read them), but said opinions would have remained largely buried without them being quoted and responded to.

The ironic part about that is your practicing agency against that people who are trying to put it back in your hands. But refuse to use that same agency against the people who are harrassing them.

The thread is saying that the gms won't do anything , so they're a victim , but then the person who is telling them they have the agency , they'll use the agency to shut them down in silence them, while claiming they don't have the agency themselves lol.

The problem here is with people that do and say things which are against the ToS, which aren't actioned when realistically they should be.

Not all stalking and harassment stems from RP or direct communication. I don't even RP in this game. I have been stalked over Ishgard Restoration when it was current content, and when there were leaderboards associated with it. I have had friends stalked over the self-same thing, and I have had friends stalked over PvP, and I have had friends sent non-solicited pictures of their own character (They barely even play, and have never RP'd)

Good for you, but your response here only amounts to "Doesn't happen to me, therefore doesn't exist" - Also, frankly the cause of why people are stalked and what resulted in their being stalked isn't really any of your business lmao.

I just find it generally comedic that some people seem to have an apparent allergic reaction to people asking that they do a better job at enforcing their own ToS.

It's not being allergic to enforcing ToS, it's more that people are overly exaggerrating some things and are calling others to get banned for ridiculous reasons.

What was that Ishgard Restoration stalking ? Someone standing besides you isn't stalking nor harassment. Also, how do you get non-solicitated pictures ? You have to open it yourself for that. And honestly, if you blindly click links strangers send you I sure hope your work doesn't involve computers. But even more than that, if knowing that some creep does lewd pictures of your character causes you so much emotional distress, it may be a sign that you're way too invested in this game and should take a break.

Sure, there's creeps everywhere. But clicking any stranger's link than complaining about the content of said link is kinda dumb. Nor should someone get banned for standing besides you.

Some people are also trying to assert their own hypotheses about a given situation to downplay it, which frankly is equally ridiculous.

This was already explained in the discussion with said poster. You are right, standing in the same vicinity is not an issue, and nor is it stalking or harassment, when combined with several other things, e.g., excessive directed emote use combined with inappropriate tell messages. If they were merely only in the same vicinity I wouldn't really care

As for non-solicited pictures there are plenty of plugins that allow you to pluck another players character data without their permission, subsequently allowing you to do whatever you like with it, they proceeded to do that and proceeded to send a /tell with a link to said screenshot. Honestly, it's less about the emotional distress caused, and more about the fact that allowing such behavior to go unsanctioned only entertains the idea for that person, that the behavior is OK, when it really isn't, irrespective of emotional distress.

Like I've said, it's something I've seen first-hand rather than something I have personally had to experience.

I don't really know how much clearer I can make it lmao. I am not supporting any given use-case of whether harassment and stalking is or is not blown out of proportion.. I am simply supporting harder moderation for the context of harassment and stalking... I have also stated that moderation is inconsistent, on occasion, they will ban you for a simple profanity, on the other end of the spectrum they are equally known for ignoring or electing to go with complete inaction.
