If you remember they did indeed have something different in mind for it and given that XIV released largely unfinished and needed to be fixed, clearly they weren't going to keep dropping feature after feature into the game.

When the New Managerial Team took over, things changed. We were also supposed to have gotten Hamlet Defense by early 2011, but that changed as well. It's pretty simple really if you took more than a second to think about it,

I think because of the graphics, motion stuff, all the different races/sizes, and they didn't have time to code all the rules of chocobos (i.e., where you can ride, how long, etc) because game was rushed out the door.

Not to mention you have to determine where chocobos can go and where they can't. Can chocobos go underground? Can chocobos go into dungeons? Do chocobos use the same terrain collision rules as players? Since there are no zone lines, can you use chocobos inside cities?

If not, how do you stop players from riding into no-chocobo areas? Do you eject the player off the chocobo immediately? Do you have the game give a warning?

See, lots of stuff to get settled.

Yoshi even mentioned in one of the most recent interviews all the work involved in implementing chocobos. This suggests it was really complicated, they had made no progress prior to the new team working on it, and/or they are going to do something special. I think it was a combo of the first two options and, hopefully, eventually the third.

I really do think they should stick with just Chocobo's.

However, not just the yellow variety. Different colors that can be breeded would be great!

If possible, it would be nice to see a chocobo that mirrors the job playing it.
Example: White Mage rider makes chocobo wear a pope hat and a white/red harness.

It would be one mount, with lots of customization options. Something that hasn't really been seen yet in online games.
