I was doing Void Ark and facepulled the last boss cause as I was auto-running, my cat decided to jump onto my lap. Needless to say, 1-2 people got locked out and no one got mad when I explained what happened in alliance chat. #catownerproblems

PotD level 50 with PLD (me) SCH, DRG and NIN. The healer is new but good, the 2 DPS suck other than the NIN knows how to hide and steal chests. The DRG is flat out awful. We get to the boss and I feel it's neccesary to prompt them to use Pomander of Lust. "Remember one of us should use lust guys" is the exact phrase I used. All I get back is a smart arse answer about remember to use steel and not die, ironic really as the only two people to KO so far were in fact the DPS when they decided to go and have a look see at a group of mobs while me and the healer duo'd the 3 we were already fighting.
Predictable outcome, nobody uses lust and the DPS manage to step in all the AoE's resulting in a wipe at <10%
FML
Haha, that seems familiar ;)
Most of my mess-ups or quick-afks are in some shape or form cat related, and no one is ever mad when I explain. I feel like FFXIV is such a catlovers game..I know exactly one dog owner, literally everyone else owns a minimum of 2-5 cats. So everyone can relate, I guess x)
Can I just say, I'm all for stance dancing and play style variety, but when you can't keep aggro and your HP drops faster than Raubahn can throw Teledji, please, I beg you, stay in your tanking stance.
Story of my life as a healer in Aery this morning.
So just finished a Gubal Library normal via leveling roulette. All level 60 except for the tank who was 59 and wearing level 57 gear. Tank had some issues here and there but nothing to the point I'd warrent as bad. After all you can't get mad at a tank who just can't hold hate against max geared people but is trying. We get to the 2nd boss and I see a vote kick pop for her by the healer, I ask why and vote no. Doesn't matter she gets kicked. The response was "Struggling".
It ticked me off but at the same time she had just invited her Tank friend to join, ticking them off is just going to get me kicked as well and wait times are still a bit of a pain as DPS. Overall in the end? The healer was the cause of the wipe at the first boss, at about 80% MP and couldn't manage MP well, died during the 2nd boss by running into the wind and got them self killed during the final boss. Was sure to let them know that they had no right to kick someone for "struggling" and left. To add, her friend Tank (DRK) wasn't any better either.
57 gear isn't bad if he's only 59. Most of my jobs went from 50-60 in full ironworks. It's really not worth upgrading it unless you get a random loot drop from a dungeon. Think my warrior got a marginally better than ironworks axe in the vault for example.
However Vote kicks often annoy me. Too many go through for no real reason.
I queued 60 with a friend so his tank would speed up my ninja queue and he got kicked after the first boss of Hullbreaker hard cos he couldn't keep hate on the coueul that tethers the healer......
The other dps said it was a stupid reason but he must have clicked yes for the kick to go through...
Refreshing change of pace though. had 3 sprouts finish titan hard in trials roulette cos everyone else was dumb and fell off (including me....) Go Sprouts!
A11S today decided to clear it via DF after 25 mins I get in, we all say hello, countdown and pull. During the first bit of the pull I notice that I'm constantly at 12kish hp then after that 6k, I'm out of Grit as I usually am since it's Savage so I'm thinking the healer isn't having any issues, I have defensive CDs up to accommodate. We wipe because I died during E.D.D, boss gets loose etc, whatever it happens let's just rebuff get in there and kick Tom Cruise Chasers butt so I can get my weekly clear.
Next pull same thing happens healers aren't healing me at all Sch says he is the off healer that's fine he was shielding and what not so good on him, the whm however....god where do I begin. We wipe another time because I'm just not getting healed at all and no regens either I ask them kindly to keep regen rolling at all times they said "well I'm healing the group with Medica II it seems to be enough" no it's not.
We get in an argument over it because it's really nonsensical, mind you we're not even wiping to mechanics just the healing and a random d/c that happened after the next wipe, I get it's DF but you should know how to keep the main tank up. The timer is down to 15 mins I told em this'll be the last pull and then we should call it, told the healer to regen he responds with "lol I'm the only healer you shouldn't be complaining" seriously? We've been wiping constantly due to lack of heals I didn't get hit by ANY opticals, I'm popping defensive CDs while out of Grit it's so annoying that we had to waste a lockout because this guy couldn't keep a tank up and refused to use Regen in favor of Medica II, hell he spammed it so much that he was 2nd on threat every pull.
I picked the worst week to not be able to schedule raids with my static it's my own fault because real life but sometimes we can't control it I'm just blown away that healers can't keep the tank up because 1 was DPSing and did their job but still let me die, and the other just used Medica II and never used Regen, Asylum, Divine Seal. THIS IS CURRENT CONTENT WHY ARE PEOPLE DOING THIS? Sorry for the rant I'm just at a loss for words, to make things worse this whm had a ilvl 270 weapon so they've completed it multiple times as they had the pants too just wow..
So I fell asleep at 4 AM, got out of bed at 8 AM, then spent the next 12 hours straight working and travelling, with no chance whatsoever to grab a nap during the day. C'est la vie.
Unfortunately, by the time I got home, I still had dailies and roulettes to do. Which wasn't so bad, except for Trials roulette, which kicked me into Bismarck Hard (normal). Which turned out to be one of those runs that leave you staring at the screen in blank shock. Or maybe that's just me, and I don't even have the energy to be shocked anymore.
Well, to start off, on the first attempt, we went through 3 rounds of adds in phase 1, with healers just ignoring the dragonkillers every time, allowing Bismarck to shoot them out. I would've done them as BLM, except that I was a little preoccupied with pumping out as much damage as I could while dodging AoEs.
At some point though, I was just a little too slow in dodging an AoE, got kicked off the island to my death, and gained a front-row seat to the horror show that was taking place. DPS that was slow as molasses in winter, healers standing around just casting Regen on the tanks, tanks that apparently couldn't be bothered to grab adds off DPS, you name it, they had it!
Eventually, one of the tanks joined me in the sweet embrace of cloudy oblivion, and everyone decided to follow it up. The fact that they couldn't even die in sync really sums up the whole situation.
So we regrouped, gaining 10% Echo. Keep this in mind, because it's important.
The tanks made a half-hearted attempt at explaining the dragonkillers, and I'm guessing one of the healers was new, along with one of the DPS. Not that any of them ever mentioned anything about being new, or not knowing the mechanics. That would be too easy.
Anyway, this attempt at explaining the mechanics fell through, mostly because the newbies couldn't be bothered to even respond to it. The non-newbie healer ran forth and pulled, and so begins Round 2.
While I, as BLM, tanked the adds, one of the actual tanks and the healer who pulled devolved into an argument of name-calling and swearing in chat. We managed to get Bismarck reeled in, at least.
3 times. The DRG used LB on the Chitin Carapace. The DPS still wasn't fast enough to kill it with 3 attempts. With 10% Echo. By this point, my face was firmly frozen into a thousand-yard-stare.
Eventually we all transitioned into a nice little cutscene showing Bismarck eating us, which was the first time I'd ever seen that cutscene, and respawned to 20% Echo.
I don't know what happened after that, because one of the tanks then ditched, and I seized the chance to skedaddle without penalty.
Well, c'est la vie.
To be honest, that's a pretty weak excuse. If nobody's doing the dragonkillers, *someone* should man up and do it. The adds are irrelevant in the grand scheme of the fight after all. Sitting there pew pewing is daft if you understand what isn't (but should) be happening, if it's in your power to fix that.
I had a real nice run of A12N the other day where the Tankbuster did next to no damage to me at all thanks to an AST in Noct who was very timely with their barriers.
It was nice.
Reminds me of how I had 9 vote abandons on normal Bismark before I got my clear for the story. The fight had been out for nearly 4 months by the time I got to it too. I learned to always take a dragonkiller no matter what else is going on after abandon #2.
Yeah, same, I even went The Mystical Sprinting Dragoon because pulling it until at least half a year after HW release on Trial Roul on Chaos datacentre was basically a death spell even with people who had already cleared it, and I, a measly melee dps, did the dragonkillers. Both of them. My poor, innocent TP.
I've noticed a trend in this thread by some of the frequent posters to point blame at everyone except themselves. I think some of these people should really take a look at their own play before pointing the fingers at others.
I mess up all the time when I run things on Scholar. I ran the Aery recently and had to vote abandon because I couldn't keep the tank and Estinien alive while also taking out the Sable Price thing on Nidhogg and we ended up having to abandon. I am very new to healing and the Tank kept taking Nidhogg too far away from Esti. But I'd ran that dungeon before on DPS, the other party members were new and I really let them down by choking when things started going downhill again.
I think we all have stories like that. Mine just makes me sad when I think back on it though. I can do my best to improve but it won't fix things that already happened or help the people I disappointed then.
I think we all have our mess-ups to some degree. But keep in mind that usually, people come here to either vent after a particulary horrible run they did their best to save and failed, or to share the happiness over something that went amazingly well. Both are usually not something that is focused on their own errors :)
And if a failed, enraging run actually IS (at least partially) the fault of the one who tells the tale, it does get pointed out by other posters too, so it's not like that just gets ignored ^^
That said, at least for myself I think I can say that I quickly realize when I am the problem and put an end to it before I waste people's time. Or just avoid situations that could lead to that altogether. And if for some reason they still end up happening, I explain, apologize and offer to withdraw instead of becoming defensive and angry.
Example: Wanted to join A9S clear, entered A10S instead (because 'breath' is more external than 'eyes', isn't it? ;-; ). Hadn't even watched a guide for that one, 100% no idea what was going on. So I apologized to the group, explained why I mixed them up and left before people could waste precious buff food.
Or lately, I was in a Thordan EX bird farm party and we all messed up really badly on the positioning during the last 10% during one run and all got ourselves killed, except for a single healer who, with sprinting, evading and DoTs somehow survived long enough to fill up the LB3 by himself and use it to miraculously save the run. When the bird dropped, I proposed we all pass on it so the healer gets it (and everyone actually did, which was great! :o).
No one is above failing, what matters is how people act when they do fail, at least in my opinion :x
I've been there, and all I can say it's keep learning and keep trying. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
I am a healer main since I began playing, and I failed many, many times once I got out of ARR and into HW. I went straight from 1 to 60, so I'm aware I didn't get a good chance to learn my role well. And despite me stating I was new, some tanks just didn't care and did their thing and made us wipe, then placed the blame on me. I was once left to die as my tank 'taught' me how I should 'Not cast shit during pulls'. On my first run of The Vault, my tank was so nice that she pulled entire rooms while I could barely keep up with Cure II, and obviously ran oom. When I asked her to pull less adds as I was still learning, she told me that I should learn to spam Holy, and how I was a terrible healer because I didn't DPS while her HP was dropping significantly fast. Of course there were some nice people who were patient, and even shared some tips. But there were times where I was too ashamed to even keep trying. I even switched from WHM to AST after that run of the Vault to 're-learn' my role, and I can say it did pay off.
So yeah, for that last fight of the Aery, you shouldn't really need to heal Estinien until Nidhogg flies away and the adds appear. And after Estinien pops the shield, you just basically ignore him for the rest of the fight. Unless you had really bad DPS and/or a squishy/bad tank.
I didn't point the finger at anybody. I do occasionally post stories in here, so yes I contribute to the thread. I'm just pointing out that a lot of the posts are pure vitriol, and maybe, just maybe, some of the posters would benefit more from self improvement instead of complaining about other's faults.
edit: Case in point, I've seen complaints about "40 minute ex roulette" in here on more than 1 occasion. Considering the dps requirements for most of the ex roulettes, a single decent dps does enough damage to kill everything in the whole dungeon with single target attacks in around half an hour of active time. Add in walking between pulls and you're still under 40 minutes. That's assuming the other dps is afk, the tank is only flashing and the healer is only healing. If you're running 40 + minutes, you're part of the problem.
The Vault. Ok i do it like ten time, should be a nice and fast run.
First pack... Wait why i lost 70% of my life ? Let me check. The Tank wear minimum stuff. Ok, my bad, next pack i won't DPS like a monkey 1 sec after he pull.
Second Pack... Again ? What the ... oh, no shield oath ! guess he forgot to turn it ON. I tell him. "I'm not using this, i want to DPS as fast as possible. I don't want to waste time on low level dungeon"
OK... Well, i guess he will turn it ON for Boss, the WHM wear very good stuff, he can heal me and the tank on trash mob.
First boss, still no shield oath... If a DPS "full power mode" the boss focus me in 10 sec... So i DPS 3 sec, wait 5 sec, DPS 3 sec... GG, we lost 70% damage on a DPS for 15% on a tank ! So good !
And after the second boss he just say " Learn how to DPS, you are the only one taking mob focus..." Of course ! Other DPS wear paper stuff and have half my DPS !
Was really an horrible run for me !
(sorry for my english BTW)
As a BLM main who considers unnecessary movement the bane of her existence, even I know that the only thing worse than lowering my dps output is dying. A neverending fight because you never can reel Bismarck in is the same as a very slow death, so rather than staying locked to my Leylines, I move *shudder* and do mechanics if others can't be ars*d to do them.
Same with A5, for example. Off-Healer is supposed to go Gorilla, at worst a BRD or DRG who can attack while running/use jumps. But if no one ever does the bombs, I don't say "my dps loss as a caster when I move is unacceptable so I'll stay here, no matter if it kills us or not"; I go ape and do those stupid bombs because surprisingly, dying means zero dps from everyone ;)
That said, the initial problem onviously lies with the one who is assigned to it not doing it. It's just a matter of how adaptable you are if that happens :)
That's a fair point to make, considering I've just dicked around with friends of mine, doing nothing but auto-attacking our way through an 'expert dungeon' where we still cleared in 32 minutes.
But there may be other factors that add up, like several wipes or waiting for ranks to refill or even explaining mechanics. If it's just 'healer didn't dps' and it supposedly took 40 minutes then yeah, that's very strange.
Today I saw a archer in Weeping City of Mhach. Had several gear 270, but was playing as archer, not as bard...
Anyway, I leave after kill Arachne Eve because I saw a big spider irl in my room, and I got busy killing that thing.
Here's a summary of my thought processes on that first attempt of the Bismarck run:
Dragonkillers #1: Well, these healers are doing nothing but standing around casting regens. I'm sure they're not too busy to grab dragonkillers- okay, they're not moving, let me try- nvm, Bismarck's shot them out.
Dragonkillers #2: AoE on me, move move move! Oh hey, dragonkillers are up, let's sprint over there- nvm, Bismarck's hit em up again.
Dragonkillers #3: Right, this time I got it... aaaand someone else got to the dragonkiller next to me before I could, that's fine, except everyone's ignoring the dragonkiller on the other side of the island now. Yay.
I don't mind having to do mechanics if the healers or anyone else are new and unfamiliar with the fight. That said, they need to speak up and say they're new before I can do anything to help. I'm not psychic and I don't know what another person's thinking if they don't say anything. And if someone actively tries to offer advice and is met with silence because newbies can't be bothered to speak up, there's only so much you can do.
Oh of course, still doesn't justify laziness on those who SHOULD do it though. Usually if I need to do similar on my DRG I make sure to be VERY vocal about it to my healers.
WC run, all but 4 of us died. MT, a healer, and 2 DRGs. Clutched the last 6% for the clear... but I only got 2 comms ;-;
Reminds me of this PLD from the same data center but different server .Everytime I met him in DF I seriously contemplate leaving immediately but I persisted. Last DF encounter was in Xelp, where he did the mass pull that is the norm these days. Except that he only flashed once, and proceed to do his Royal Authority combo only..... first Flare from me resulted in 1-2 reds and all yellows. Subsequent flares always end with me getting aggro despite me cycling targets...
I am always like, fine, slightly slower run than usual; the healer is dps-ing and keeping the tank up, mnk's look decently geared. It's only until the first boss that I realized the dps is a helluva slower than what I usually encountered.... then I observed the mnk wasn't even doing positionals, only moving when an AOE is on him... 2nd boss, Royal PLD decide to pull the boss all the way to corner after I started my opener -_- and mnk decide to drop the first tornado directly on me and subsequently everywhere in the arena..... Last boss... God, that's the first time I see Garuda getting summoned nearly 4 times...
I mess up constantly. I've got every class on level 60, so I play them interchangeably, and I don't know any of them 100%, and even the one I raid with I could be absolutely perfect at if I paid 100% attention at any given time. I can admit when I really screw up, though. I've casually wiped plenty parties, most of my deaths are nothing but my own fault most of the time (a static legend: Lahen and her inability to keep left and right apart, for example). I learn most mechanics by accident, or trial and error - memory's fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure basically every first time 50 and HW dungeon were nightmares from my side in any regard.
Queued RF for sophex around 2 weeks ago as a WAR and got a very decent pt except PLD who didn't know about sword oath's existence. He kept outaggroing me when I voked sophia off him after tankbuster with his shield oath(I always change back to deliverance after finishing butcher's block). This happened around 2 times until he snapped at me. I told him he should've changed to sword oath immediately but he replied "it doesn't make any difference". We trashtalked for a bit then I got out of duty.
A week later, I entered a9s learning group via party finder as a MNK hoping to help only to find this very same guy in pt as a DRG who didn't have any idea how the fight works and had either 1 or 2 fending accessory equipped. So the rest of dps had to risk breaking our backbone to carry his butt through Faust Z. After we entered Refurbisher 0 arena, I reminded him about that sophia fight and how wonderful his shield oath was. But he mocked me back and changed the story from him using shield oath to sword oath and outaggro me. After a few more arguments, I lost my motivation when I learned he's the only one who needed to learn the fight in pt and left. I'd say I sabotaged his learning pt I guess which is totally worth it, judging from how big of a liar he is ;w;
