I'm not sure which country you are referring to, so I guess it's not in the EU.
As a European citizen I believe that not letting the depiction of violence against children become an all too common phenomenon in gaming is not hypocrisy, it's common sense.
Like I said before, I know that lore wise Lallafel don't look their age, but in all honesty, thats not the first thing that comes in mind when I seeing the Sultana's deathscene.
It's still the image of something that looks like a little girl choking to death.

I still fail to see how her resignation would have negatively affected the Monetarists, as she was openly opposing them (even if it was without success). The second part of what you said, about getting rid of the player, makes sense though, especially since it also ruins the scions, and completely messes up the Immortal Flames

Belhi has it correct -

Nanamo was not just going to abdicate and abolish the monarchy completely, she was also going to abolish the Syndicate as well who wielded the true power in Ul'dah, in favour of a (presumably democratically elected) republic, meaning both Lolorito and Teledji would have been the big losers (along with their wealthy colleagues). Hence the assassination - it removed that final annoying (in their eyes) stubborn thorn in their side to total control of Ul'dah while maintaining their status quo. It was basically a power struggle, which sadly Nanamo and the Royalists lost.

Unfortunately for us though, we were kind of dragged into it.

Contrary to what most people assume about the female gender, I'm not ridiculously sensitive or even fond of children, but Nanamo's death scene is as disturbing as the image of a little girl choking to death actually is. To make matters worse, it was a largely unnecessary act of violence, as she was about to resign from her position anyway.

I think I know why I wanted to rage at you. It was the fact that you wanted an official response (from SE, I'm assuming) as to why they killed(?) a Lalafellin NPC the way they did.

EDIT: To add to my previous response, SE doesn't owe anybody an explanation for writing their story the way they do. Is it infuriating that such a loved character was killed(?) the way she was? Yes. Did she deserve it? No, unless you're of the Monetarist mindset. Should she have been written out of the story differently, simply because she resembles a child? I don't think so. The fact of the matter is she's dead(?). It's not like she was tortured to death in front of her loved ones. She died(?) in a matter of seconds. If anything, that's merciful.

On top of that, SE (SquareSoft at the time) killing childlike characters is nothing new. Remember Vivi? He actually WAS a child, and look how he ended up. He didn't choke to death, but SE still killed a child character.

Y'know, it may just be current real life events influencing me, but I have a hard time believing that Ul'dah transforming into a democracy would have reduced the monetarist's power at all.

Well... it might be easy to explain. Or not.

The Monetarists lose power, they are kicked out from all governmental practices. Contrary: They change their names and become one of who knows how many political parties in the new Ul'dah Democracy.

I couldn't agree more. Democracy and capitalism go together, at least in real life. Not so sure about how politics in a fantasy universe work though.

I think a lot of it comes down to simply Lolorito being too stubbornly set in his ways - it was mentioned earlier in the game Lolorito was using his power to effectively stifle improvements to Ul'dah's infrastructure in order to further line his own pockets, particularly transportation infrastructure, as the owner of the East Aldernard Trading Company he had a vested interest after all in keeping Eorzea's transportation restricted, as more gil lines his pockets that way.

After all, he refused an aetheryte to be built in Vesper Bay simply to slight the Scions because they wouldn't accept bribes from him (and hence that ostentatious statue of himself he had erected there - effectively laying his own ego over the needs of the people), and the mining railway that runs through Black Brush apparently Nanamo herself had realized the potential such transportation technology could have in opening up not just Thanalan but all of Eorzea to more effective trade if it was expanded and made available for passengers to use, but Lolorito continuously blocked and stonewalled all attempts to do just that, as it would compete against his monopoly of the chocobo-hauled trade caravans that are currently used as the primary means of ground transport (which is his primary business).

Really, it all comes down to money. Scrapping the Syndicate and replacing it with a democratic republic would immediately impact his fortunes, although he would be able to bounce back, he only looked at things in the present and not for the future (after all, if you go back to Ul'dah after the end of 2.55 a new gossiping npc in the market mentions that since the banquet company after company have been going bankrupt and no one seems to know what is happening - clearly Lolorito is destroying business competition to build his power base. He's basically turning into a plutocratic megalomaniac.

Its also a situation where while they would still probably be in charge, a republic would create a situation where the leadership would be answerable to the public in a way the Syndicate isn't at the moment. Currently they are effectively dictators. Only other Syndicate members and the throne have any say in events. A republic models would hamper their current grip on power substantially and allow for popular opposition to rise in power just through swaying of Public opinion.

I'm sure he didn't want any risks that would hurt his power and profits in the long run. He knows that the Warrior of Light is on the side of Nanamo and Raubahn (and by extension, the common people) and would defend them, so if the Warrior of Light is casted off as a bad guy, that risk is gone. Naturally, things did not go exactly as planned.

She was about to rain down hell on the monetarists.

I recently finally finished the 2.55 AND to be fair everything was rather well predictable..The 1st time I meet Ilberd my spider sense if ever I had one was tingling like crazy, and everything was setup like the Crystal braves and Yayahase always talking about money. The cup that nanamo drank was similar to the poster used in 2.55 and Nanamo's decision to abdicate her throne was always gonna end up with her either being put in a coma or killed as the Syndicate has always used her as a puppet.

The thing that really made me wonder though are;
1) Why did Tataru smile like that during the scene on Costa del sol
2) What happened to Riol and Alliane
3) And what did the Emissary of the Ascian meant when he spoke to Urianger at the end.

I have to agree with you, it was pretty obvious that Ilberd was going to betray you, the 2.5 quests made it very clear Ilberd was lying about the death of the Merchant.

1) Tataru smile is weird, because all Lalafell smile like that, I noticed this with my Lalafell aswell, when he smiling it looks very rapey. I think the emote makes it look like she has something up her sleeve. It is possible that Tataru is a villian, but I doubt this.

2) Riol noticed in the last cutscene that some of the loyal CB members were getting killed off. When the corrupt CB members captured Alphinaud they were talking amongst themselves that they took care of the CB members that were loyal to Alphinaud. About Aliane, from Momodi, we found out that Aliane had something on her mind, she was so distressed that she did not finish her dinner. I think Aliane was one of the traitors, but she reconsidered her allegiance and was about to confess to the player. Sadly one of the CB members (I forgot his name, the scumbag that tried to sell you out during the Ifrit storyline) found out and probaly killed her and then left the vial of poison behind. or Aliane took the vial of poison to show it to the players as proof that the CB are going to kill Nanamo.

3) I doubt Urianger would betray the trust of the Scions and work with the group that was responsible for the death of his friend/lover Moenbryda. I am guessing the Emissary is not as bad as we think that he is and from earlier conversations, he only wants a balance between dark and light, unlike his fellow Ascians who want to destroy the balance.

In regards to Urianger, I assumed he is playing the Ascian's game in hopes of backstabbing them later.

I started thinking about this some time ago, but there was a quest where you had to chase down Roalle, or however you spell "why-you's" name. The more I think about it, the more I start to believe that, given Ilberd's motives, we were tricked into helping the Monetarists silence a good person.

After what happened at the end of 2.55, I hope Roalle isn't dead.

She was a total Garlean Spy, that is uncuestinable. but that person would have also given the enought info to know this conspiraty that happened on 2.55. She wasnt an ally, just a unfix issue of the montecarist

That CB member was Laurentius, a Wood Wailer who was working with the Garleans for profit. It shouldn't have been a surprise to see him on the take. Still I'm hoping there's an option to basically tell him to hit the bricks if he begs for another chance (if not outright slaying him). "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

It would be so cool if after traveling in ishgard for a while we gained a dragon ally who would fly us into the middle of a big meeting between the traitor CBs and the Monetarists and takes out the foot soldiers while we take out the 3 main backstabbers.

Probably because it's no longer relevant with 3.0 becoming the big focus now.

In my opinion I think this thread got unstickied a little too soon...I was kind of expecting it to not be sticky anymore when early access or street date of HW.

Nanamo was a healer check and I failed it BAD.

Also the way she died was really disturbing so that dude getting upset at it is pretty right about it being strangely out of character for the game.

If new players don't wanna get spoiled, they shouldn't look in the giant thread that has "Spoilers" in the title. If they read this thread, they can't complain to SE that their story was spoiled. Noone forced them to read this thread before they started.
