Punish MSQ Cutscene Skippers

SE did make the cutscene's unskippable. However there is an exploit around this, which some people are using to try and speed the runs up - and how much time they gain does depend on how many others are also skipping. So they are hoping to get into groups (or going in a pre-formed group) where most are skipping as well, as this does speed things up... but obviously runs the risk of them having their accounts suspended if reported and SE can prove it.

And yes it is provable just by looking at ppl's behavior's - happening once out of the blue? I doubt SE would take action. However it happening virtually every run at the same cutscene(s)? You can 100% guarantee it's a skipper. And yes, the ppl doing the skiping usually do it at 1 of 2 specific cutscene's, or both.

It's fairly obvious when it happens - not only by reading combat logs... depending on how fast they can do the skip, you'll have combat sounds, voices, lines, etc happening while cutscene is playing. And let me tell you, it can be disconcerting & distracting to have an NPC speaking... while hearing him yelling "ARRRRGGGGHHH!" in the background. Pffft.

Maybe, but I think the post that explained to that lala how it was done is gone. Which sucks since they were against cut scene skipping and were just informing them. Could be blind though.

So it's bad that people are skipping cut scenes because new people can't enjoy the fights. However the fights are skipped normally every single run meaning....new people can't enjoy the fights right? Like the first pack of mobs? Skipped. The part where you're running on the ledge or whatever and the tank grabs all the mobs, goes and dies while every one else moves on...skipped.

So why is it acceptable to skip somethings but not others? Who gets to make these calls as to what's acceptable? The majority? Which is perfectly fine but if the majority wants to do whatever to skip cut scenes why is that not ok?

If your argument is "Well it's exploiting and should be punishable!" That's pretty bootlicker as it's not hurting anyone but that's a fair argument. If your argument is "newbies can't enjoy the fights" that just doesn't make any sense especially when you factor in that a lot of those "fights" are trash mobs that are skipped and the "boss" fights take no time at all.

I don't know why you'd skip those fights. On my data centre we just pull everything as we go then have an AoE-fest at the end and it's over in seconds anyway. The running along with the group trying to keep everything moving along is probably the part that's been diminished least by the repetition and ilevel upgrades. And I assume we're getting an extra chunk of EXP from it as well.

In the end people that are against us that skip is more so based around the principle of the matter. I do not think anyone in their right mind will make the claim that these fights are engaging or one misses much by not taking part. More so if they see someone breaking the ToS no matter what feels punishment should happen. Which is fair, but for many lack of enforcement is enough reason to accept the risk of punishment, since the chances are so slim.

Granted fun is subjective so I could also be wrong.

The fights lack the degree of engagement they should have, yes.

That doesn't mean you're "not missing much" by not getting to do them at all. There is still a difference between "some" and "none" and by clearing the fight while others can't participate then you are taking away the last bit that remains.

If you're thirsty and there's a cup with one mouthful of water in it, you don't tip it out because "it's not a full glass so nobody in their right mind would bother drinking it and they're not missing out on much". It's still the difference between getting some water and nothing at all.

So for a player, experiencing some degree of the fight - diminished, overly easy and short - is still participating in the fight rather than being thrown from cutscene to cutscene without the connecting gameplay.

It's an unfortunate fact that it's not designed around "fun" for us. It's about doing what we agreed to do to earn our tomes and EXP - participate in a boring but necessary process that can mostly be left to run while you go do something else entirely. Poor design, sure. But you're not required to physically sit through the cutscenes, just leave them to play out and be present for the gameplay bits.

I make full use of that cutscene time - whether it's reading or housework or getting dinner, a 50-minute dungeon isn't actually taking 50 minutes of my time. Just pick up the controller every five minutes, do my job, walk away again.

And if I can't afford to schedule 50 minutes to run the dungeon like that, I'll do something else. Daily roulettes are not mandatory.

You are right mandatory, but the game has a method to speed the content up I will use it. Sure I can do other things, but I can also skip the cut scenes, get my Zzzz rewards real quick then do things I rather do. I get it some people frown upon the idea of breaking the ToS, but for me peraonally I do not just blindly follow it. For me personally a ToS without enforcement is kind of pointless.

Sure I could sit play more role, alt tab during cut scenes, come back rinse repeat. Or I could play my role skip cut scenes see if others skip, if they do we speed up the run tremendously. If not I will eat my 30 min timer and do something else.

Sure I am selfish, but to be selfish is to be alive and that is fine.

For those saying they should be skippable, if they do that then the chances are that means they'll reduce the amount of exp you get out of them, because that increase in exp is to make up for the fact cutscenes are unskippable. The only reason I run that roulette is for the chunk of EXP I get out of it. No harm in sticking on a show to watch whilst you half-arse your way through it. Newbies get the experience of the content and I get juicy EXP and catch up on my shows whilst doing it. If the exp wasn't worth it, people wouldn't do it.

If I am not in the mood for something that long or anything like that. I don't do that roulette, there are plenty of other roulettes regardless.

Sure the exp is worth because of the "unskippable" cutscenes but if people keep making a fuss of those that skip they are only shooting themselves in the foot if SE changes it. Cause those that skip will simply move on to next best method. Leaving those who do not skip or need the content high and dry.
