[Data Center USA] Ping increased. Report your changes here.

Guys, most international players play perfectly well with pings of 200 and higher. The game is designed to be playable at 200 ping. If it wasn't it wouldn't have any oceanic players.

The EU servers are opening up because the player base is growing in EU and they need new servers to deal with the growth. The free transfers are for distributing population across the EU servers.

I don't normally respond to posts like this but you are joking right OP? A latency of 100ms is nothing. You wouldn't even be able to tell the difference gameplay-wise from a 40ms ping or a 100ms ping. Honestly it sounds like your connection woes are an issue with your ISP. To clarify, I am not saying what I am saying just to say it. I am well educated in networking so my response comes from this education. 100ms ping would not, under any circumstance (other than packet loss), cause the issues you are talking about.

If 100ms is unplayable I think there might be other issues at work, like maybe your router, ISP, computer, something (gaming "network booster" card perhaps). That or you've lived some really sweet life thus far lol. I've made do with 500ms pings before, takes a lot of anticipation... (painfully playable). 100-200 is good, 300 is aggressively meh and some anticipation. Below 100 is amazing.

This is false. Sorry. Some jobs require weaving double ogcds for optimal performance, and MCH in particular feels really bad for me with rapidfire up. If you think someone at 200ms can match dps with someone of equal gear and skill as someone with 40, you are wrong. I'm not all SKY IS FALLING GAME IS UNPLAYABLE, but I'm not gonna jump for joy at having to adjust my rotations and dodging after nearly 4 years. Just because the game is playable at 200ms doesn't mean it's enjoyable.

Ping on the east coast is borderline unplayable even with a VPN. Why on EARTH did they move it to west coast rather than central? I thought for sure it was going to end up in Chicago :(

Went from approx. 50ms using WTFast to 89ms. Without WTFast I'd be over 100ms. Thanks for nothing SE. Guess I won't be playing BRD anytime soon.

I would just blame it on PvP chat.

But no, seriously, 100ms is fine. I'm doing just fine with 130ms on EU servers.

I don't care much about the problem, and in fact I have addressed it prior, but seeing all these complaints mostly from europeans about the NA data center move and arguing about free transfers that they are entitled too, leads to me pointing out the sheer irony that have been used, just to excuse why a free transfer is absolute necessary or why the NA data centers need to be moved closer to europe.

Your explanation didn't made it better, in fact it just made it worse lol. I was thinking with me pointing out how ridiculous these requests are, would let people understand how you guys would feel if we're taking this free transfer and then come and complain about our ping or even better demand the EU data centers being moved closer to NA.

Also another fun fact is, and there's no hate in that, I am glad you guys are getting your long desired free transfers, but all these arguments about houses, friends, fc's, ping and what not, will all the sudden vanish the moment the free transfers are opening up.

You can argue that playing with higher pings is doable but no one wants to and no one should have to.

People just got used to playing with near perfect ping for x number of years and the sudden increase is very palpable. I went down to 190~ from 260~ and it's already messing a little bit with my CD timings.

100 ping unplayable? I don't think I have every had under 180 ping since I first started playing.

I would also say that claiming the whole thing was pointless is a bit baseless considering that the move wasn't for improving ping. It was for providing a facility that would allow SE to add and upgrade its server infrastructure which was literally impossible in the old location due to limitations of the site and the utilities available.

I was raiding from West coast to our previous server location (so Montreal) with 120 ms ping...

I was playing at 90~ ping regularly and I double weaved just fine with some small exceptions (like some pvp rotations)

I'm not gonna say you cant play at 100ms or higher but people who have been playing at 100ms+ have a harder time seeing the difference of going from 20-40ms to 100-120ms. Just like everyone who was at 100ms+ now getting the 20-40 range are going to notice the difference so are the people going from 20-40 range to 100+. The best outcome that could have came from these servers moving was if they went with a central location that way the people getting over 100ms+ will see a drop most likely to the 60-80 range while the people with 20-40 range will also mostly be in the 60-80 range one side will have slight better ping while the other side will have slightly worse ping but in the end it balances out the issue more so then moving the Data center from the East coast to the West coast. This was their chance to fix the whole west coasters complaining about lag without just turning the tables.

100? I'd kill to have that low.

I think it's the PotD speed runners fault and the inventory bloat that is slowing down both, the server as well as her/his connection. We need to accept that 100ms will be unplayable.

You're being very unreasonable here and making assumptions and generalizations. I for one will not be taking advantage of any free transfer. If the game is unplayable on my current server it will be goodbye for me.

I played with ~90 the entirety of the time I played Heavensward, and ~175 the entirety of the time I played Realm Reborn. The latter, higher ping made certain content difficult, specifically Titan Extreme plumes and Twintania dive bombs which were the end game content at the time I took a break, but everything else was doable including the rest of coil and EX primals. Also, weaving more than one ogcd between abilities was impossible without clipping into the next one with that high ping. In fact, this inability to be able to consistently dodge plumes and dive bombs was the reason I took a break until I could get a better ISP.

The ping of 90 was noticeably better and suddenly dive bombs and Titan EX plumes were easy to dodge. With 90 ping I also had no issues completing any of the new to me content that I attempted in terms of latency, dodging and ogcd ability weaving.


Now I get ~45 ping due to the closer proximity of the data centre, and I do notice a difference. Abilities feel more responsive than at 90 ping (e.g. I can much more easily squeeze in 2 ogcd abilities after an instant gcd than before although it was still doable at 90 ping), and dodging feels even easier in the couple of content I have run so far. It's definitely noticeable, but not to the point where I feel like I was operating under a handicap at 90 ping. 45 ping is more responsive, yes, but not essentially so. I do feel like I was operating under a handicap with the 175 ping, though.

This seems to be pretty great for Australians though.
I also do agree it should have been central though seeing people complain about 90 to 100 ping when west coast had that same issue before is a little funny.
Not saying just swapping it fixed anything but ultimately they didn't do this for ping but to prep for SB and it's features which hopefully it will fix (though I still don't get why they couldn't find a central location that had those same features, I can't imagine having a headquarters near their server makes that big a difference).

Higher Ping is not necessarily bad if it comes in exchange for lower packet loss.

Montreal was actually a very bad place and packets were often lost.

Unplayable is an overstatement but we can't change the fact that it will feel very different for those who got used to playing with near perfect ping for a long time.

You're being pretty spoiled to think 100ms is unplayable. That's standard for a lot of people.

Jesus H. Christ people at the rate we're going we could have Qunatum Entanglement infrastructure and people would still be bitching about latency.

Me? I'm getting 170ms now from typical 200+. I am more than satisfied.

I almost never had that problem, and I can assure you this is hurting my performance in game right now. :/ I'll be fine if the routing is fixed, but right now I'm getting 40ms more than I should have.

Again, 200+ ping is doable with double weaving, I've been doing it since ARR Launch, PS3, 230+ Ping. The playerbase needs to stop assuming or talking out of their rears because the doomsday hearsay is honestly pretty laughable. Given the fact that I've done all the raiding content while relevant + Ex Primals, yes, it is doable, and at a very high level of play as well. Just because /someone/ can't do it doesn't mean /nobody/ can do it. Given the fact that my raid team puts out the DPS that they do is evidence that, if you really want to, you can put out the numbers. I, however, do agree that for players who are /NOT/ used to playing with ping so high, it is not going to be enjoyable having to re-learn timings and fights to compensate for the higher ping, but it is what it is. They're not going to un-move the DC, so the two choices are Adapt or Quit. Grim, I know, but reality doesn't tend to be very bright all the time.

I've played since ARR on a ping of 105+. Cleared nearly every major raid and ex trial. Sure, I couldn't optimally double weave CDs to push out 20 extra dps. Hardy unplayable.

I can, people going from the 20-40 range will notice the difference hell I do I live about 6 hours from the old servers but I can feel the difference in ping already not unplayable but it is annoying. I can feel the delay on some of my skills it's not much but it's there. Am I going to quit because of this no, will I need to learn to adjust for this since I can promise it will carry over to how early I have to dodge the AOE's in fights which at first is going to suck and it's why I wish they went with a Central server that way no one really could complain.

EU have every right to be upset if they feel their ping increased too much for them personally.
I wouldn't outright quit the game as long as I could still enjoy myself, but I would be upset.

Yeah, it is noticeable, but I agree that it's not deal breaking. I went the other direction where I now no longer have that teensy tiny, little delay at the end of every ability before the next queued one kicks in. I certainly didn't have any issues completing content or weaving ogcd abilities in without clipping the next one.

I was getting 50ms before so this is a pretty big jump to the point I cannot play SMN/BRD effectively. I'm also having issues properly slidecasting on BLM :( It will be a pretty big adjustment for me and I may just drop BRD as my secondary class altogether.

It will be interesting to see if player performance in the east coast/europe overall goes down due to this.

Lol 100ms is unplayable what? I've been running with 160-180 from EU just fine and being able to clear and farm everything. Now I saw my ping jumped to 220 and it's scary but I can't jump the gun before I see how it feels in game. I'm on a NA server due to friends and I made lots of them there. I don't feel comfortable even thinking about moving. I'm upset, yes. But I stayed on a NA server cause the old ping was perfectly fine and no one expected such drastic change with the servers moving. I don't get you people tossing a fit over getting 100 and bellow even.

My ping went down to 38 with the move. It actually made the game a lot more responsive.

Results from 20 pings: Minimum = 101ms, Maximum = 233ms, Average = 114ms Oh boy! I can't wait to do EX trials now! Thank you Squeenix for screwing over the northeast by choosing California and not somewhere in the middle.
