That's more of a stretch than Ninja's using Katars.
There is pretty much no way you can cross base kits like that as the majority of the Lancer's base attacks are 'Thrusts'
Believe me, I already well though about Dark Knight's possibility because I too, noticed the abilities.
But giving a Black Mage Convert did not make then Red Mages suddenly, so too would Blood For Blood not make Lancers into Dark Knights.
It's too much of a stretch as you're breaching weapon crossing.
As far as the comment about Bard's Archer ties. That was not a stretch, because instruments were secondary at best - so all they did was eliminate the need for it them, and you could pretty much give bard any weapon you wanted.
Does not work For Dark Knights who were Iconic Scythe users from FFXI, unless you want to branch it from Warrior or Gladiator, as DRK were both known for Swords and Axes as well.
If FFXIV wants to take form FFTA, yes, Templar may work, but you're stretching for Jobs at that point. The FFTA audience is small, and that Job is going to come from left field if they use it, just the same as Classes such as Thamaturge and Conjurer were met with a "o,O" when they were first announced.
And we're still way off topic. Dark Knights would no more have pets than a Kain style Dragoon. Which is what we have, period. It would be far better to look for a solution within the pet system (If we can train Chocobos to fight at our side, why not Wyverns?) than to try to integrate it into the existing job mechanics.
It's easier, and allows far more options for players as you could probably give them as many battle options as you could a trainable chocobo, giving the combination more depth without harming DRG's performance any, or digging into the already hamstrung Class/Job system.
