I have a feeling the server names aren't going to change and they will just mass move our server data to a new one.

I am Japanese American, born in America so don't know any Japanese.
I still would want to play on the English servers because I rather play with people I know I can send a tell to and not have any language issues, even though my ethnicity my be Japanese. I played FFXI and I know how many JP people from Japan were for the most part really rude to non JP speaking people, almost never would want to join your party. Basically had enough of that kind of stuff.
If you like mixed servers then play on the global ones. You guys that want to force people to all play on global servers is kind of dumb. Just let people pick which ones they would rather play on they are giving you a choice. You don't like EN only servers then don't play on one.
I hope you're right about that. Seems most likely.

For people like me, who often play on Japanese time and might end up having a hard time finding groups if they leave, I wonder if SE's soloution would be "cross-server dungeon finder." T_T
Something I don't really intend to use. I want to party with and make friends with people on my server, not people I'll never see again.
What's the argument about, you'll have both global and language specific servers. People can go play where they want, which is how it should be.
I personally don't like being able to communicate with only 50% of the server. For example, I saw some guy walking up and down Uldah today and i thought it was amusing so I sent him a tell. And then I probably ended up offending him because I had to try and explain myself using auto-translate since he spoke japanese. I'd rather be able to communicate with everyone on my server and not be afraid that they can't understand me or that I will offend them.
This ..
What is it with US players and AFK so often, I do find that incredibly rude, sure I get that people have stuff to do but sometimes they keep you waiting for so long, if you got something to do like that why even join a party, just say I may be away for 30 mins maybe you would rather find someone else.
Like Rein said also its common courtesy to say 10-15 mins prior to leaving a party that you will be leaving, but some just ding and leave.
Obviously Europeans can be very similar in the way they act to Americans but I do think there is a bigger lack of manners from US players.
And the know it all boasting is enough to drive anyone mad.
Depends the global population at that time anyway. I am pretty certain that SE will use version 2.0 to consolidate servers. If the population do not raise by a significant amount, do not expect to keep 18 Worlds + localized Worlds. Especially if a lot of JP players (or even French/German players) move on to dedicated localized servers.
Some players just want to move for a simple reason, timezone. Surely that is barely an issue for NA/JP players if they play during their timezone prime time, but that can be really problematic for EU players on a World where the EU population is low. I won't even mention FR/DE players unable to speak English/Japanese. They are unable to communicate with 95% of their server, or even more. May ruin the "MMO experience" for some of them.
{Auto-Translate} have its limit. I personally like to talk "just about everything" with people I am playing with. Luckily I do speak English so I'm fine, but if I didn't and could only speak French or German, I would most likely move to a localized server. Not because I don't like others, but just because I want to be able to fully communicate with others. (= more than 5% of my server population).
