Colored gear with specific classes.

After mulling it over I am not as against the color=stats thing as I originally was. I would be interested in more gear models and more colors available per piece, so that there are multiple playstyles per color. Since this is the early stages of Crafting 2.0 and the fact that materia stats are so significant compared to stats on the armor (the issue of raid gear being a lot weaker than crafted gear w/ 1 materia) I don't feel as if the issue is as large as it sounds anymore.

I still like the little boosts you get from colored gear vs. having uncolored gear and having all the possible color boosts present on an item at once would overpower it, while toning it down would make it too weak.

I still don't like the equip requirements changing when a piece is colored vs. uncolored, though.

I'd like to get more insight from devs on why dying changed this way and what they have planned for it, personally.

I suppose, I've lost a lot of steam on the issue. This and a few others. There's no point explaining myself to some LSmates as they're determined to think I'm against everything and so that part of this game has lost a lot of its enjoyment as well. That's fine. This wasn't in the original notes on the dye system and there's no question why. It's something they think they can sneak on in there without anyone really noticing, and by the time the patch rolls around it's too late. The plans have been set to make all relevant future content similar.

Either way all I hope is that I won't be kicked from the party for not cooperating with this new dye system. I refuse to look like a clown. And if so, that's fine too. I don't need to be playing this game 24/7 and they can continue to look for a replacement.

Yeah this is a bit disappointing. I was also under the impression the dyes could be used (as the description states) on anything. So that I could dye a blue Felt robe. Or a black one. :\ I'm really sad the colors are so limited as well.

I mean... I really don't like the Brown colored Felt Bliaud. That i have to wear in order to get the best stats. If this system is still a work in progress and all the colors will be released eventually then thats alright. Just curious if this is going to be the trend of 1-2 color options per generic level or armor.

Yeah, that too man. D: That too. I'd liken it to: what if the materia didn't say where it could be attached? In theory all purpose sounds nice but to tell the truth the old dying system was no more/less of a hassle than it is now. The only thing that's changed is how you dye the equipment, in that sense.
I know you mine/fish/gather it now and that's changed but...Ah well.

It would have been better if they reduced the various hues and made it all one colour like, for example instead of there having been 2 shades of blue (light and woad) just reduce it to plain old "Blue cloth dye".

:D It's funny how subjective the "QQer" term is and how cliche and boring it has become. So you don't agree, that's nice, instead of holding a conversation you play the Yoshi-P white knight card and truck off. Seriously ??, Im not QQing, I simply stated what i want to happen, Im not the one crying about lack of choice because I don't care what colour my gear is, Im more concerned about stats.

Granted I would like my armour to at least match in colour, but not overly fussed.

My idea of how the colour system works isn't that far off to be honest, guess we'll see what happens.

I think the QQing award goes to all those now and forever ago that asked for some sort of class uniqueness + over arching restrictions.

I do care about what colour my gear is to the extent I don't want to shuffle the same piece in multiple hues for the best chance in stats which is what we have now. And personally I would like a choice as we can have that same stat uniqueness without tying it to dyes.

With a dye-base stat system it offers nothing more than a way to distinguish that the red gloves are better for God knows what, while the green ones give another bonus stat. Currently no rhyme no reason, and even if there was I don't think I'd care much for having to wear a set colour.
I know that the team switched members but this would have been a lot more popular had it been implemented since the very first day. But as it had not you cannot blame a fraction, if not half or more, of the community in shock because of it. Especially as it came (as did the undyed versions being useless) with no more of a fanfare than was given to the sharp increase of stats allotted per class. I wasn't expecting for my stats to grow that much, but there you have it. I knew the change was coming, but to what extent? This has been a major failing of the dev team to explain in detail what their intentions are.

You do not just say "we're changing the dye system" without explaining a few key points as to what exactly is being changed unless you specifically want it to come as either a huge surprise, or to hopefully avoid unpleasant reactions.

I mean I get it's what some people want, but to call people who want /some/ semblance of choice left in the game alone QQers? And in the name of 'more' uniqueness? Surely you don't mean visible, that much is apparent. But as you cannot see what materia is added to what or what stats it imposes without using /check I don't expect anyone to look at me and realize what stats I have by the colour of my equipment.

People were under the assumpton that dyed versions would do just what they did previously, provide distinction. I guess that's the community's fault for using logic.

Why is it that when SE decides to add a concept common to a lot of games they over complicate it? I just want to have my gear look the same color, and i want to make it my favorite color. Now if i do that i wont be able to wear the gear i have :(

Dye should be just that, dye, to change ONLY the color of your gear.

IMO the gathering of dye should be available from both DoL and DoW/DoM: gathering classes can find materials from the nodes they mine and battle classes can find them from the mobs they kill. Not every mob will drop dye mats, for example mobs such as Chiglets (or any other insect type) can drop red dye while plant like mobs can drop other colors like green.

Once you gather those materials you should be able to either have an alchemist make the dye, or trade with an NPC for bottles of dye.

Although i haven't played the game for a long time or seen every creature in it, i'm sure it wont be hard to find monsters that can drop dye of any color in the game.

This should make dyes available to everyone in the game not just those who have the patience to level gathering classes.

This is just my personal view on the dye system but it seems most people here have a general agreement on the issue.

Well gathering the dye isn't very hard and it gives incentive to Disciples of Land. I have been hunting dye since the patch came out and enjoying leveling up my DoL to do so.

I try not to get butt hurt about some of the issues with FFXIV but this one just sticks with me. Was universal dying of certain gear not added because it would take too long to implement, stalling 1.19's release? Did the development team really mean to put stats associated with color from the beginning? I was of the crowd that WANTED restrictions on gear but that was because I didn't want to see mages in plate armor, not because I wanted to see all mages in red robes.

FFXIV has been known to limit our choices in gameplay but this one takes the cake. Naoki Yoshida, don't say that you play other MMOs yet limit your player base with something as simple as dying gear by attaching stats and gear restrictions to colored gear. That is poor implementation and, frankly, laziness on the development team's part. Remove the bonus stats of dyed gear, let us choose whatever color we want out of the nine choices given in 1.19, and for God's sake let Alchemists bleach/dye existing gear please. (It would be something nice to give Alchemists, for a change)
