I am hit or miss on patches.
Some patch nights its a 5 minute affair, others it can take up to 3 hours and I go play a different game while its running till my Windows 7 UAC pops up saying it wants to patch.

To be honest my main concern is for Patch 1.18 as Yoshi stated in his letter:
That is what I am most worried about, 300 odd MB can take long enough 1.18 could well end up being 1GB+ and then lets not forget how they manage there updates so 1.18a, 1.18b and so on will require us to re-download 1.18 in full each time even if the actual update is only a few MB worth of tweeks.Quote:
but given the tremendous size of the patch
I really hope they have some sort of fix for the patcher before then otherwise it 1.18 could be a nightmare with the patcher in it's current state.
I still have not seen anyone prove 100% that the current patch system forces you to download all the current patch data at once every patch cycle.
For all we know the file that house major things like the Market Wards and Combat have to be redownloaded each time a minor edit is made to them because of encryption.
It's not the patch system. It's just misuse of the patch system. Previously they were using it correctly but now they're providing redundant data. And yes, people have done diffs on the files produced in the patch to show that of the 300+ MB downloaded, only a small amount has changed, and only a few of the files have changed in the entire package.
It would be like they're torrenting a collection of music, and they later update one of the included albums to provide album art, but rather than include only those files in the new .torrent file, they're marking all the other songs, and the FFXIV client (for obvious reasons) doesn't let us do a partial download.
This really seems like just a casual mistake on their part, but once again, it is very difficult to communicate this fact to them.
Funny thing is yesterday was the first on for me that downloaded at 600k a sec
Lol I like to think that they are adding ninja patches that they are not telling us about :)
Actually Viion has proved that each update in 1.17, 1.17a, 1.17b, 1.17c all contained exactly the same data + a little bit extra in this thread here:

Unless you have something to prove otherwise that we aren't re-downloading the same data over and over again then I will have to go with Viion on this one.
