I don't think that's really controversial at all. The Final Fantasy legacy connection means it's played by a lot of people who wouldn't normally be in an MMO. Such as me.
I'm average at best as a gamer, I just enjoy Final Fantasy games.
Having said that, I AM getting better at a rapid rate, largely thanks to help/advice from other players.

It isn't weird to play a character of the opposite sex.
(I have a male Lala & a female Viera).

I think there should be a way to reset cooldowns/resources on striking dummies, so high-end raiders can practice their rotations/openers without having to wait around for cooldowns to reset, or change jobs to clear current job resources.

That legacy belongs to World of Warcraft though, specifically Vanilla through Wrath of the Lich King. The game peaked at 12 million paying subscribers and broke culture boundaries of both the MMO genre and the entire gaming industry as a whole. WoW is THE normie MMO and while FFXIV isn't bad, it's recent peak still doesn't put it anywhere close to WoW.

You think Characters lose identity by being able to Multiclass and adapt to learn Multiple skills and Disciplines?
So a Warrior loses Identity because he also knows how to Craft and Gather, and knows Archery?

My Previous Mage Miqote loses Identity by being able to use White, Black, Red, and Blue Magic? Or does she lose identity the second she became a Paladin...which uses a Sword and Shield and Holy/White Magic? Is a Paladin in itself a Class that loses its identity because its 2 things in one?

Lol that last part was probably silly, but its also silly to suggest a Master of all or somebody who has multiple skill sets has no identity and is just "The Generic WOL"
Who basically picked up all of those different Skills/Jobs through each expansion to Grow and Adapt to the New Land and Situation.

I can agree with this - especially if you are designing a character and envision them as being say, a Sage for example. Well, you can't do that until lvl 70. It would be nice to have an option to start new classes at level 1 also as a choice, or you can choose to have it at level 70 to start for convenience.

(This probably won't happen though as they'd have to design more story quests probably..)

I think you lost the point? I take MememaiXIV is referring to the Final Fantasy franchise as a whole, not FFXIV.

I think it's ok that the first tier of savage is "easy" principally since there are a lot of newcomers and returners but maybe the new ultimate could come a little earlier, something like 2-3 months after launch when most raiders are already geared up.

Yeah, that's exactly how I meant it! Mayhap I should have said franchise instead of legacy.
I can't offer an opinion on WoW, as I have never played it. So no offence meant to any WoW fans!!

That’s not the player base fault it’s the games ridiculous fix on how to please both fronts, water down the core content so much that your roles don’t matter and add 4 trials every 5 months for the “engaging” content as organic as oil and water

I like cold pizza too, but I can only eat very specific types from very specific places. Otherwise it is eaten fresh or nuked in the microwave.

I have a lot of these.

The game has become too focused on its story that all other forms of its content have become lacking. ShB had very little content if you didn't like bozja and endwalker is looking to have even less to do, and what is there isn't very unique and is more just eye candy/aesthetic overload.

The game is also becoming too easy, almost every class is ridiculously simple and easy to play now and classes within the same role are also very samey in what they offer and their playstyle for the most part. I knew it was a bad sign when they made dancer, the easiest class in the game, even simpler when endwalker came out.

Stormblood was a fine expansion when it was current, eureka sucked but the story had enjoyable characters and the class design was at its peak back then and has only been downhill since.

Turn 13 is the best raid encounter ever made. This may be nostalgia but I'll never forget clearing it in 2.0.

Dungeons in this game suck. Every last one of them, and they always have. Though they were actually better in a realm reborn compared to today, I'd say, as they actually had variance between them and could tell them apart beyond aesthetics. Now every dungeon is just hallways with mechanicless trash and 3 bosses each, and old dungeons are so nerfed both directly and indirectly that they bore you to tears. Wish the team would be creative with its dungeons.

Blue mage is the epitome of a waste of time for both the devs and for the players, and I believe the resources used to make it should have either been spent making it a real class (no, it's not impossible), or put into making actual content.

Just the ones off the top of my head. Also, the Hrothgar and Viera situation is unacceptable.

I LIKED the SB Lily System.

You do not need FFlogs, or a damage parce to tell if your getting the most out of your class. Read your tooltips, learn your fights and ull get the uptime you desire. Honestly with the way I've seen people obsessed over their damage parce on FFlogs or being 100% optimal the entire time they play the game it feels disturbing to say the least when you play with a group for a month or so n cleared everything that everyone wanted on farm and they still talk about how their parce isn't orange or something.

You know when people make Hot Take threads and we end up with popular takes instead? Well, I'm doing that now so hold on:

• Healers are right to be mad about the role's current (and past) design. Yoshi's "go play Ultimate" was WOWdev levels of disconnect and he didn't get nearly as much backlash as it deserved.
• Hroth/Viera players are right to be mad, the fact a a single hobbyist mod maker puts the whole megacorp to shame is absolutely pathetic.
• The above two points are based on observable, reproducible and easily understood facts, there are no rooms for "I feels", "In my experiences" or "I would rathers".
• Endwalker story dropped the ball on so many ways I don't want to make this post larger.
• Lyse is the best Scion only because of the fact that she had the decency to leave once her arc was done.
• Modern 4-man dungeon design is bad and breeds increasingly psychotic players.
• ARR Summoner was fine, someone on the team must really personally hate pets and/or DoT based damage, or maybe there is some kind of technical limitation they wont admit to.
• Most FFXIV content creators are just another arm of Square's PR team and not to be taken seriously.
• "just unsub" and "respect muh time" and their consequences have been a disaster to FFXIV discourse at large.

Pretty sure they have admitted in the past that they have problems with player-controlled pets, which is why there aren't any anymore. They're pretty much glorified DoTs now.

People asking for more consequences and death in the main story doesn’t mean they’re asking for the game to be game of thrones, nor is it even remotely similar.

People asking for more difficulty in casual/mid core content doesn’t mean they’re asking for the game to be elden ring or dark souls, nor is it even remotely similar.

Most People who complain about PvP being unfair with things like cc effects or instant Death, have probably never even touched PvP content before 6.1.

Y'shtola is severely overrated and had basically no character growth ( I did like her in 6.1 tho, I hope they do something with her moving forward... ).
And Lyse is severely underrated and just became the scapegoat of the main SB MSQ writing, she also had an actual character arc as opposed to the former or other characters people still like such as Yugiri ( I like Yugiri too ).
Most people still seem to think she's the same character as in the beginning of SB and people don't apply even remotely the same standards to other characters as they do her.

Also it should be a requirement to have melds to even enter Savage, if you enter Savage with no melds and I'd even say no food then you're wasting everyones time and don't respect the rest of the people in the group.

Yes. Yoshida himself dislikes pet classes

This game has so many underlying technical limitations that unless Square Enix actually invest the money to drastically improve these areas of the game, eventually it'll make the entire game design stagnant. Blizzard screwed up in other areas but at least they were able to successfully resolve the majority of underlying technical limitations from the original 2004 code base to provide necessary quality of life changes.

One example of this is the glamour system. Limited glamour plates and item slots to store appearances is terrible design in 2022 and should be resolved entirely before 7.0. Not in extra slots but actually giving us the exact glamour catalogue that World of Warcraft. The game remembers the items you've obtained and lets you freely use those appearances for transmog (glamour in FF terms) without having to keep the original items (although you'd do this for certain cool items anyway).

Home World, Data Centre Travel and Housing are other areas of the game that are fundamentally limited by the spaghetti code that powers this game and are top priorities to solve over implementing new systems like Island Sanctuary.

Housing is over rated and should have never gone to singular players.

I like Lyse.

I will stand by Varis and Zenos are fighting for most wasted potential in the game due to the lack of interest in making a Garlemald based expansion.

The reason that so much content is being made easier is not because casual players don't want/cant handle challenge, its because so many people cant stand it when their roulettes take longer than 12 minutes

Treasure maps should give tokens, both when leaving after clearing the final chamber and getting kicked out, that can be traded for map materials including the one most recently added to the game. I've been trying and failing miserably to get map materials without having to pay someone else since Stormblood release and I'm tired of weighing not paying the bad luck tax vs never getting the item I'm after.
