I think the issue is that the sounds weren't even around long enough for them to get an accurate gauge of player reception. Clearly this was a decision made exclusively at the top, probably by Yoshi P himself. I don't recall ANYONE asking for this change. There were more than a few unnecessary changes and questionable decisions made early on though, all of which I question to this day.
There were people who were complaining about it in the early 5.0 days. Mostly on the explosions being too soft and needs to be louder. I remember on twitter someone asked soken directly to change the SFX for gunbreaker and soken responded with ok and bam 5.01 it was changed. So, yeah...
no sfx fix as i can tell, SE or Soken what kind of feedback you need to bring back the old sfx? just please tell us, im really tired of the mute sounds of the main combo and i really want to hear awesome and satisfactory sfx it use to have there, please listen to us.
The thing is they asked for more feedback and so we did we give them feedback but nothing change since them so my question is more about what more they need to suply our request? honestly i don't consider they care at all since the begining as much they seems to love making us feeling frustated against them or something bcs as you say they didn't even grant us the courtesy to enjoy/get use to the original sfx at all from the begining.
I sure do hope that the terrible person who keeps breaking the rules by continuing to update the sound mod doesn't continue to get away with his awful behavior. That sure would suck and I would never ever use it.
is there any video or audio of the old sound design ? i dont even remember it also id MUCH rather how more GNB weapons as of 5.4 GNB only has 1/7 4.0 primal weapon and 0/7 for HW and 0/7 for ARR Glows included. 0/3 Alex weapons 1/3 Omega weapons 0/3 coils weapons No lost allag, No ala Mihgo (Which is Titanbronze so it can be easily used as such despite its reused state) No Eikon Gear no Doman (which again was resued for Doma Castle appropriately and sadly is the very same model from Ryumyaku form 70s tomes so that answers that) and for raider No Ultimate weapons from either Unending and UWU (Weapons Refrain) and to piss on the wounds the TEA weapon is a copy paste of the Crafted 80 gear..which was Copy pasted from Mt Gulg drop. After start progresing on ES11 and notice Fatebreaker have the trigger sound effect on his attacks i just want to ask to Soken to please revert the sfx of solid barrel combo again to his original 5.0 sounds effect please, it's not fair the boss have the coolest sound effects and i have to struggle with the current boring ones when i always preffer the old ones.
XIV is a really weird game. NPCs have access to all gear, while players are class locked. NPC Machinists have nice and smooth animations with satisfying gunshots, while players are forced to spam backflips and release fire orbs out of their guns. "GNB" boss has nice and well made SFX, players have club.
I don't know what devs are thinking, but with time I'm more certain that they just don't think at all.
it's me or the poll has been hacked? all the yes votes has been deleted and now shows only 2 wanting the sounds effect come back and 86 votes saying no, that's literally imposible, the poll lead the yes by a several percentage since the begining of the thread the last time i check it a month ago and now only 2 wanting the sounds effects back? sounds like someone is sabotaging the request.

B) Have the know how
C) Have the want
To try and alter a vote that SE has shown they do not care about in order to prevent sounds from being changed that have been around nearly 18 months.
I get the times are full of crazy right now, but c'mon.
Pretty weird a error casually reset just one of the 2 options votes like that if you ask me but independent of what causes this idk what is more sad, to lose over 300 votes of ppl supporting and wanting the old sfx back or been 18 months as you say of SE totally ignoring the fact they did it wrong and keep doing nothing about it.
It is critical we update the poll immediately. Yoshi P will surely use it against us when we give him the chance.
I tried tanking again for a friend who wanted help with Anti-tower runs for their relic. ... Literally could not hear myself attack with the Gunblade. Just mushed into all of the other sound effects. Was the least amount of fun I've had tanking.
Since we're coming up on Endwalker, now is the time to bring this to the Devs' attention.
Since we won't get any changes in Shadowbringers, they at least need to take another look at the job and fully realize its identity from a sound effects viewpoint. Paladin is pretty raw sword sounds with holy magic sounds layered in. Warrior is super weighty and barbaric. Dark Knight has heavy dark magic vibes to all of it's attacks. Gunbreaker is... an unfinished mix between the old light slicing knife and the new version that seemed to be made and pushed to live in a week.
It's not even about "old vs new" at this point, they need to take a pass over the entire sound design of the job and make the entire thing fit some sort of identity.
If it were a normal fanfest year, I would've travelled to Fanfest to ask about the gunbreaker sounds in person. :(

Picked up ff13 and 8 from a steam sale, and gotta say I'd love to know how a sound engineer like Soken's okay with the way gunblades in this game sound as they do now. Lightning's attacks don't sound like a big lunky hunk of iron slapping the surface of a pool, and neither does Squalls.
Not gonna lie, the ill-fitting sounds has negatively affected my ability to enjoy the job. Enough so that I still believe this topic shouldn't just be brushed aside just because "it's an uphill battle to get anywhere." I know that what I have to say probably doesn't reach anyone in charge, but I remember what being a DRK in stormblood was like. I'd rather not allow another situation of something I enjoy being mucked with, then people accepting what we get with a terse grimace because "at least it's something."
I don't think SE cares about it at all anymore if we consider how easily they changed the original SFX so change it back should be extremly easy, even making a mix of old and new ones like the moded version wich take less than a week to be done should be easy to make and implement to end this already but considering we are reaching the end of the expansion without they even care about it i doubt they will do anything at all and thats so sad bcs GNB feels worse with the current sfx, im personally tired of not hearing and distinguish the combo sounds effects of a properly executed combo from a none one.
Still want the original sound effects back too, it hasn't gotten better the GNB sound effect sounds more like a bat still :(.
They still did us dirty with gunbreaker, and are still advertising the class with the original sounds on their youtube trailers. No explanation as to why it was changed after all this time. I sure hope they don't give the new Endwalker DPS class a bunch of really sick sound effects and then make them mundane two weeks into launch because 12 people on the forum start crying about it.
I'm still here also. Still for either revert or mixed, current ones are still very upsetting and disappointing and I know Soken could do so much better.
I picked GNB up when ShB released and I must say the old sounds were very satisfying. It felt like you were pulling a trigger with each attack, simultaneously the OG sounds gave off this feeling of pressure regarding the gunblade. Only after a few months when I picked it back up I realized those sounds were gone. I do like GNB but I must admit it kind of feels like you're beating things with an aliminium bat. Kind of sad SE has to adjust because some people can't deal with this and threads like these exist with so much support.

If you have/make an alt / buy a boost, then pick up the GNB unlock quest, when you first meet the hrothgar trainer dude, that cutscene showing off some of the skills still uses the original sound effects.
So it's not like they aren't still in the game, but we just cannot have them.
I second this, I always followed the thread but now I'm writing here 'cause, as many have said, SFX sounds on GNB are not very representative of its weapon, and a "slash" effect would be much Better.
Unless the JP side of things makes a fuss chances are nothing significant will happen. If I remember right though, they were just as confused as we were when these changes were made. At this point, the only thing I could suggest is having someone who knows their Japanese (so not me lol) make a post on the JP forums. Never know. There's nothing to lose by trying.
There was indeed a "fuss" back when the SFX was changed you can probably still find it in JP general discussion but it has since been died down.
