this ends up about the same as option 2, there is still the random forced move problem though

I love how this new dev team actually pays attention to the community response. I have a feeling they annouced the merge so far in advance for this very reasons. Maybe SE is getting their PR act together?
So this is option 2:
So people cried about something becoming unbalanced..yet they're praising that things will now be unbalanced? lol. You do know if they merge a small world with an already decent sized world people still can get separated, much more likely than just allowing people to change freely like you know, they went with option 4 for that reason? Since you know, if a server already sits at 1k and they wanted to boost that number to say 3k per world, people still will be separated because they'd have to account in the people who will resub by march 1st.Quote:
②A + B - X ⇒A World to merge with B World, except people that would like to move are able to choose a different World
So in the end, nothing really changes.
They may cater to the JP side more than the NA side but that is their main base. At least they consider player feedback. We can win a few small battle but never a war....
Hurrah for option 2

Well that's good news!
Yoshi is looking into doing a NORMAL MERGE (2 servers into one) with player option to move elsewhere.
Hurrrrray!
This right here has been Square Enix's downfall since the game was launched, you think the majority of JP gamers care about reused areas? Or grinding? Hell they love that stuff. What SE fails to realize is that they shunned the NA gamer with this game the biggest gaming market in the world behind EU and now look what happens. Who knows how many posts we don't read from YOSHI on JP sites??????? I really don't care where I am put in these server merges I just recently resubbed so that I can support the game. I got a feeling SE is hoping that the PS3 revamps the NA market in FFXIV because the PC version is tanking in that remark.
Thank you Reinheart!!
I am very pleased that Square Enix has made this announcement. It actually renews my faith in humanity that the voice of the people can actually make a difference. Evn though this is just about an MMO people do care.
To all of those who said people were 'bitching' or 'whining', I have one thing to say:

We are currently looking into making it possible to go by plan #2 which received many feadbacks and keep the merit from plan number 4.
I'm optimistic but until it's official, we're still on plan 4
True neorei, so ppl keep voting your opinion on the poll

does padding your post count make you feel better about yourself?
To the people saying they only listen to the JP population, most of us here in the English forum were asking for #2 long before Yoshida even made the post outlining the different options.
Merge->Transfers is obviously the best choice to give everyone what they want. Said it a dozen times.
Glad that the dev team actually listened to the outrage the change caused, and even went as far as apologizing for not seeing how much of a problem it would be. I guess there was no point in acting like a sycophant.
Said the one that posted:
What was the point of this? All companies listen to their home base a lot more than their international branches. You don't see American based companies going out of their way to listen to their chinese, korean, singapore or european branches.
This reinforces my belief that they might want to delay the merge until April. It will give them time determine how many returning people plan to stay because of Ver 1.21. This could change server demographics and needs to be evaluated. Anyone not here after 04/01/2012 probably will not return til Ver 2.0 9 months away. Secondly it gives them time to compile and evaluate all the feedback including those of returning players and incorporate this into their decision making process.
If they do delay the merge no one can complain about it since it was delayed due to their complaining in the first place. We know it is very likely people will resub for 1.21 since every patch tends to bring people back/outta inactivity, but it's also apparent they do have a system in place ready for the "new way" or "missed out" people so I don't think it would be delayed for a recount.
When they calculate server numbers it's more than likely through the main software which doesn't gain/lose numbers due to inactivity (look at how they calculate WoW's numbers), it's only new subs that may add some in but even then they proven with XI's census they keep very detailed data and won't have to recalculate much if they're aiming for around 2-4k people per server.
"March 1 (Thursday) to March 19 (Monday), 2012: Character transfer selection period. *
March 27 (Tuesday), 2012: World merge maintenance to be carried out."
Do you feel so strongly about people complaining that you compain about their potential complaints before they have even complained about it?
By the way, your post makes very little sense. Nice run-on sentences.
Good for you Zoltan.
You are, of course, correct in everthing you said. But as you know full well players will come back and test out a new patch. A certain number will stay beyond that 1 month period. Many more have unsubbed again waiting til the next patch. As it appears that this is the defining patch for the current version of the game many more might be staying. You will not have a good handle on those numbers til the 1st of April. Wouldn't it be prudent to wait for those numbers before making a final desision?
It appeared that your initial post was taking a direct shot at mine, which garnered a lot more "support". So I was merely responding to you... and defending my post like every other person is defending their own since the subject is such a big a deal.
This is an excellent point. Mr. Yoshida had mentioned releasing the current merge plan to allow time to go over feedback. When the time comes around, given their current ideology and the insite from the community, they may have a thorough plan that should make the most amount of people happy. Also, giving it enough time to monitor the playerbase post 1.21 is an equally organized idea. These things should allow for a smooth, widely accepted merge.
Over 200 people voiced their opinion, all though they are considering option 2, please keep voting on the poll
