in what way? it's entirely possible i'm not remembering correctly, or seeing things through nostalgiavision- but it seemed like while quite a lot of people were botting/teleport hacking, it was kept very quiet... and when people found out about it, it left a black mark on the player's record that people never forgot. especially if they got banned for it.
i don't really remember anyone openly defending cheating outside of "well if we don't do it, we can't compete"- which is admittedly a bit weak in itself, but never really denied outright that it was cheating.
Well, both FFXIV and FFXI(prime time) give ridiculous conditions that make the community more angry than happy. Where else to take that anger than the official forums?
Funny you post that, yet you leave out the very final part:
Once again, Yoshida said no one would be punished. Get over it.Quote:
I obtained weapons and headdresses utilizing this method. Will I be banned for exploiting this?

This is an oversight on the developer’s part, so please do not worry about this. However, as this is not recommended, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
EDIT: And don't get me wrong, I'm glad the BLM burn is gone. Mostly since I'm happy I won't see scrub BLMs that think 4/5 AF makes them "good". I'm just sick of watching people cry over something that doesn't even effect them.
Didnt have any problem with your OP. I just think the talking yourself up was a bit much.
With regards to your comments about the crafting bots, I believe SE is at fault for how rampant they are in the game. Not because they dont ban people that use them (although thats certainly part of it) but because the main reason people used the bots to begin with is because the crafting system was so tedious and boring that it really created the enviroment necesssary to have people feel like they needed a bot to get through it. Much like leveling, if they just made it fun and engaging you would have more people that would want to do it themselves instead of using a bot to do it for them. You can't ever get rid of people wanting to cheat using 3rd party tools completely but, by making a game that people WANT to play, it would certainly reduce the number that do.
If anyone remembers, back when coblyns were legit exp gains, the SP system was still not working correctly. Later SE increased thier HP anyway. As for Garuda, like i said before, people wh BLM burned it now have to learn a new strategy, and those who didnt can say 'I didnt use the Garuda Exploit.'
Botters arent affecting me, its still pretty easy to make money as people constantly need mats, which i dont mind putting time into getting. At the end of it, when i get a peice of gear I feel a sense of acheivement, something people who do exploit dont really get.
really if its not directly affecting you who cares? It seems that people forget that FFXI had its share of exploits, which if were going to talk about PLing I think i'll just say Summoner Burn. SE was perfectly ok with people doing those to gain exp that way, I remember some people levelling a job from 1-75 in a summoner burn party. That Azury is an exploit, 1 player, 1 shotting 1 coblyn to gain exp. Sorry, not an Exploit. The game is set up so mobs die and give exp based on thier level, which, back then is what was happening, SE made a mistake by making a lvl 46 mob have incredibly low hp and they changed it.
