Change The Rules For Leaving Dungeons (aka Why People Insta-Quit Castrum Meridianum)

If you're willing to take a 30 minutes penalty, you'll also not be doing other things that net you xp in the meantime, so no, it's not just that.
And as someone who finds Castrum a waste of time, my reasons are those, certainly not just the time I'm inside.
And yeah, there's something wrong with Castrum groups always in my experience, cause nobody cares about what they do since it's an easy instance so you often get wipes and such on easy fights (as well as livia taking forever cause almost nobody is doing the cannons, the cannons are being destroyed, most people are just autoattacking her instead of doing the mechanics) because people aren't paying attention. Maybe it's my datacenter, but as someone who leaves those are my reasons to leave. It's not the total time per xp, it's how that time is spent. Even if Prae awarded less xp, I'd still prefer it as it's a less ugly run.

I suspect the reason they haven't is because it does make for a good EXP dump for babies. Plus the amount of work necessary to essentially overhaul two massive dungeons is enough it would eat into other things they want to work on.

They don't really have to do much to eliminate the roulette entirely. Halve the health of all the mobs, remove half the party requirement, and throw the dungeons into the 50/60/70 roulette. Done.

The real problem with these dungeons are all the cutscenes, but even a lot of those could be eliminated. There doesn't need to be an unskippable cutscene introducing every single boss, for example.

UM No, 'time spent in the instance' is not the only relevant metric concerning player's issues with Castrum and Praetorium.
If it was, you would see a lot more people ditching Praetorium as opposed to Castrum.

First off: If someone is leveling a combat job and only has limited time to login play a day, for 15-20 more minutes they can earn nearly twice as much experience from running Prae.
For a large daily bonus, it is more beneficial for many players with strict schedules to run Prae.

Secondly: the amount of active time spent in the instance is far greater in Castrum than the Praetorium.
During the lengthy cut scenes in Praetorium someone can study, do laundry, make food ect.
Hell, I've even heard of people working remotely in the middle of a Prae run during this pandemic.
Castrum requires a lot of time spent running around, making it difficult to simultaneously complete tasks in real life - let alone engage in recreational activities (such as YouTube, Netflix or even playing another game).

Thirdly, you're frankly underestimating the skill floor of the playerbase.
I've encountered WIPES in Castrum.
It's honestly not even especially uncommon.
If Tank and/or Healers are reckless during massive pulls things can quickly go south.
Every now and then everyone will forget to pick up keys during the instance, making things take even longer.
I have never experienced a significant hold-up during Praetorium which is very straightforward compared to Castrum (Cannons say hello).

Lastly, while quite subjective I find Castrum very poorly placed and ugly compared to the Praetorium.

There's a excessive amount of backtracking, and the multiple short cut scenes that pan the camera are annoying at best, and detrimental towards the run at worst(thanks for interrupting my rotation to remind me that I once again ended up in the wrong dungeon).

At least Praetorium follows a predictable dungeon rush structure followed by a Boss gauntlet.

The only way is to make it more appeling to players so the selfish ones will have a valuable reason to help others

I wasn't referring to player opinion about which is a better use of their time. I was referring to why SE gives players a larger bonus in Praetorium than they get in Castrum. It's because you're required to be in the instance longer, and that becomes time you can't spend earning XP from other sources.

If you want to ditch Castrum and hope you get Praetorium the next time you queue. go for it. Your reasons are your own. That's not going to get SE to change how much the roulette bonus will be if you end up in Castrum instead of Praetorium.

I tend to have the opposite experience vis a vis Castrum and Prae
With Prae, I often see multiple people AFKing for long stretches.
I also see a decent amount of people not bothering to do anything even remotely resembling an actual combat rotation, so the fights take far longer than they need to.
I'll grit my teeth and bear a Prae run if I'm levelling, but for anything else, I'll take Castrum every time

No, you don't have the right or power to stop people from leaving ANY instance for ANY reason. They accept the time-out for doing so and that's the end of that. It isn't about 'winning', it's about 'You are not entitled to people's time OR to try and force them to do something they do not want to do.' That's all there is to it. Get over yourself, please. Stop trying to dictate and control what other people do.
