I would think it's common sense to look at your healer's MP and refrain from pulling a boss or packs if they're low on MP, but apparently common sense is not that common at all. I had a tank pull Ser Adelphel in Vault once, when the WHM was at around 4.4k MP, then bitched about the WHM running low during the fight.

Also, you're in a friggin' party. You're not playing solo, you're working with others to accomplish a common goal. You're supposed to pay attention to them. That's kind of the definition of teamwork. If you don't like that fact, there are tons of single-player games out there, and you shouldn't be playing an MMO.

Than the WHM failed at teamwork, cause putiting voice to your concern is also part of common sense...unless things have changed and people tend to stay distubingly quiet when it directly affects their own well-being. Teamwork is a two way street, checking resources are a courtesy for a tank because you can be at 4.4k MP than be capped in all of 20 seconds, but if you don't communicate that that is not possible, how will the team know?

The thing is, you need awareness of not just the mobs but also the party in the first place. Healers shouldn't DPS or overheal to the extent that their MP suffers and causing people to pause before every single pull. If they aren't DPSing much, if at all- and are being run ragged then something is going horribly wrong elsewhere.

MP and TP is finite, even if they can be regenerated those capabilities are limited. I'd wait for a tank that was running low on their juice for sure and it's pretty easy to notice. I keep them alive and in return they make sure nothing comes after me. That's... pretty important.

Another issue is how people are reticent to say something because a lot of folk who play have delicate sensibilities. Either risk getting into a fight, kicked or if the person is actually not so soft... may actually take your word for it. It's a gamble. I risk it by voicing my concerns in the first place albeit it doesn't always end well.

So this just happened in a Bryflox normal run.

I think he got shield and sword mixed up.

I had a tank do something simular the other day and was like wtf...

Tank pulls with shield oath
mob gets to about 50%
Tank removed shield oath
Continues to kill mob then puts it back on for next pull.

Me: Are you removing shield oath to increase your dps?
Tank: Yeah
Me: Why aren't you using Sword Oath then?
Tank: Because its a dps loss.

I think its due to it using the GCD so you essentially miss a action. Sword Oath for me adds about 300 damage each auto attack, so if your still able to do about 3-4 auto attacks before it dies then you may as well Sword Oath.

I do agree with raid awareness but it also lands on expectations. If I am on warrior and I notice I have 200 TP at the end of a trash group...multiple instances where others can't see are being investigated, namely equilibrium. If I have to stop due to the variables not adding up, I will let people know. I also do the same when playing healer, if I can't use my MP regen abilities things will have to be done behind the scenes to continue the pace that others can't see and need to be voiced.

If things are assumed like "oh the healer has 2k mp I better stop" and you don't say, "you good on Mp?" Than the healer may take offense to the pause of combat flow associating the stop to his MP management and raise an arguement, and that's a whole other can of worms.

So, we had this dragoon in Novice Network who asked a healer to join Aurum Vale in progress - but before a mentor could join, they got a random healer as replacement.
A while later, the same dragoon told us their tank bailed, and thus asked for a new one. I had nothing to do at this moment, so I switched to dark knight and entered Aurum Vale in progress. Wait, did I just agree on tanking Aurum Vale? This dungeon I always fail at pulling one group at a time and dodging Bad Breaths in? RIP me.

DF said "43 minutes passed" about the run I was about to join, and as the dragoon didn't say anything about their progress, I expected the party to stand in front of the final boss.
They stood in front of the second one. So I expected the worst.
Party were said synced dragoon, and unsynced white mage and an unsynced summoner who wore the job gear you gain during the lv45 job quest, but had Emerald Carbuncle out rather than Garuda Egi. Both dragoon and summoner were firsttimers.
Coincounter took very long due to the DPS being abysmal, but we made it without any greater problems. I even managed to do controlled pulls throughout the entire rest of the dungeon... well, except the part with the two morbols and the seedlings. While I pulled back a pack of mini morbols, someone accidentally pulled the first big morbol, I took it and meanwhile a lot of seedlings hatched. Chaos occured and we wiped. Second try in this room was way easier as all the seedlings already hatched, so I could pull single packs of mini morbols rather than having them eat everyone but myself.
When we reached the final boss, we had less than 30 minutes left. I explained everything and pulled... and ate every single Bad Breath ._. But that's not what wiped us, it was the DPS not killing the adds. I pulled again, this time I managed to dodge some Bad Breaths while the DPS managed to kill most of the adds before they hatched. Unfortunately the healer ignored their five stacks and eventually got killed, and as the summoner didn't raise them, we wiped again.
For the third time, I finally dodged every Bad Breath, the DPS killed every add, and although the healer ran out of MP when the boss was at 50%, we finally cleared with 7 minutes left.

Well... it was the most awful run of Aurum Vale I've ever had, even although I joined in progress rather than running from the start, but I guess I improved my tanking skills for this particular dungeon a lot. So... progress!

Got Stone Vigil (again, groan, fourth day in a row) for leveling or mentor roulette and had a healer who said "I'm a lazy healer so I hope we'll all be okay! :D" went O_o and took the first couple pulls small. True to his word the only thing he did was heal. Healer tells me "it's okay to pull bigger!"

I know Stone Vigil very well so from that point I did the big pulls, getting two groups together. All he did was heal, but he kept me alive comfortably through those pulls and with our aoe damage, BLM, SMN, we sailed through.

I'm a very lucky FemRoe today... I got Mhach for my mentor roulette - run in progress, allianca is at Forgall, we're still missing a few Dps. My group gets the last spot filled with a BLM - another mentor, wearing their cute little crown and instantly deciding that this isnt worth it. We wipe, because someone pulled while we were still waiting and not ready and so on, nice little drama.
Everyone returns, we've even got a full alliance now!, just the blm-mentor keeps tanking the ground... not returning, not taking my raise, waiting to get kicked because its useless and a waste of time to him - and instead of eating the penalty, they wait. My party decideds to kick them *grumble* and I spend the boss fight filling out a report...

(granted, I wasnt much help anymore and people were constantly trying to raise me, making me scream at my screen to freaking stop annoying me but this attitude made me really, really mad - if you dont wanna do content, sure, here is the door - leave by yourself!)
We managed btw. Not even one more wipe during the rest of the raid.

Hello again. :) Thank you for the cards, they were really nice. Selli has been really interested in MNK lately, so I've been showing her how I do runs and hoping she picks up some good habits and you happened to catch me during my warm-up run.

She actually had something like that in expert when we got home. Got Sohr Kai (she heals, me DRG) and the tank told her not to use Cleric on the first pull. When she popped it during the 2nd pull, he decided to pull all the way to the gate (I guess more mobs = more healing = less time to DPS?) which is a pull I normally do, so she was used to healing it and was able to Cleric during that too. Tank decides to stop using CDs on top of pulling big and Selli still goes into Cleric, lol (Battle Litany and Mantra so clutch). Tank launches a vote kick before the 2nd boss and it doesn't go through, so they rage quit. New tank was loads better.

Additionally, sometimes the healer may not even get the chance to vocally communicate the lack of resources. Back in my WHM days I had a few instances of tanks pulling while I had close to no MP (rezing dps, being forced to Cure II spam etc) and while I was trying to type "low on MP" or some such (which, for PS3/4 players probably takes a fair bit longer). And then there is the point of the tank paying attention to chat... Saying "low on mp" before a pull, and then having the tank still mass pull right away is not conducive to victory. And then yelling at the healer for not being able to cast more than 4 Cures... *sigh*

...Wow... How spiteful does someone have to be to go that far? I mean really, making the healer's life intentionally harder for making things go faster?
And this guy clearly was not just one of those "I'm afraid I'm going to die if the healer DPSes" -tanks (that is, to some extent, a valid concern). Just a control freak or some other kind of a jerk.

If someone's going to "just enjoy the game" by trolling other players, they should not inflict themselves on the DF, end of. That's why there are options for reporting that reflect those kind of idiots... If they want to piss about make a premade party and just annoy each other. We all pay our sub fair and square why should one person get to decide for everyone else?

Few days ago,Lv 60 Roullette,Queued as Goon,got ARF
Teamed up with PLD,WHM and BLM.no new player message.
This BLM didn't AOE at all,no Ley Line,Enochian,Raging Strike,nothing.
He was just fire3 then spam fire1 then TRANSPOSE ... god help me ...
I checked his gears,its i210 weapon and all crafted i220 without melding any materias.
Its okay,though,I already get used to carry another DPS around so moving on.
Then we proceeded to the open big area before final boss.this BLM stopped and say
"This place is so beautiful"

Then the tank needs to pause before every pull as a courtesy, so the other players can type out their concerns. Or he could just speed things along by glancing at the party list.

I find it hilarious that you can't be bothered to glance at the party list, which is relatively easy to read, but you will look at the chatbox, which can be cluttered up very easily, to look for messages that players may or may not have the time to type out while also playing.

IDK about you, but when I'm tanking, I find it relatively easy to look at the left side of the screen for half a second, or even just looking at it with my peripheral vision while also concentrating on what my character is doing, to keep track of the party's HP and MP. I suppose I'm just the weird one for being able to see my entire screen while playing, and for not thinking this is particularly difficult or bothersome.

never said I agree with that..just giving other options on why someone acts the way they acts....to be taken into consideration too at times before jumping to the conclusion they have sold/bought an account...see my point ?

So if I had an ounce of creative energy left in me after the Wiping Shitty I've just had, I would write a parody of "Keep Rollin'".

It would be called "Keep Raising". Because that was my motto as SCH, throughout that entire run. "Keep raising, raising, raising, raising".

We finally completed it with 30 minutes left on the clock.

The tank and a DRG were both new. My co-healer was a WHM that was AFK half the time and wouldn't even accept my raises. One of the DPS was a BLM who did nothing but drop meteors right next to the party, and spam Fire III, then cast Blizzard while in Astral Fire, running out of MP, then just standing around waiting for his MP to recharge. I got so sick of his crap that after 2 wipes to Ozma, I snapped and refused to raise him any more. And the WHM that replaced the AFK WHM, as well as the SMN, even agreed with me to ignore his corpse.

I did everything I could, but I cannot solo-heal and compensate for an AFK co-healer. This WHM, instead of eating their penalty, chose to just log off and let us kick them. So yeah.

On the plus side, I have my full healer set.

I revised the bar for my worst Aurum Vale ever. Last night I ran it with a SCH who never used leeches or succor, didn't have her lvl 45 quest gear (so I think she hadn't done any class quests) and worst of all, was healing for 135 hp per physick. I think all her gear was broken.

It took us multiple wipes and 50 minutes. Somehow we managed to clear.

Had an A5 DF run, two new people. We wiped twice, once because the new MT didn't mitigate the tankbuster and had minimum gear, no swaps and once because new DPS dropped slime in the group and new Tank didn't move us so everyone standing out of the slime got a bomb to the face for their trouble.

Now, there's this ninja in the instance that starts positively berating this brand new tank in front the whole party. In addition to that, she was telling the healers and other dps how to their jobs and was just flat out rude about it. I finally said, "Hey (ninja name), I really appreciate that you're trying to help but your tone is coming across really condescending." The response, "Kekela, I couldn't care less what my tone is like.'

Nope. Just nope. I love it when people try to give advice, but there's a right way and a wrong way and you just don't treat someone who is new and trying their best like scum. I have a no play with jerks policy. Took the penalty that one.

I just...have to share this one.

So, I queued up for the 60 Roulette, and after a pretty long wait, got Antitower. It took over a bloody half-hour. Why, you may ask? Well, around the time we got to Ziggy, I took notice of the other DPS in the party. A Dragoon. So I paid a bit of attention to them, and quickly realized that they were doing nothing but their TTT combo. At all. Not even Heavy Thrust ever! So I brought this up, and after some silence, they just acted confused, like they had no clue what I was talking about regarding the Impulse -> Disembowel -> Chaos combo. And when me, the Tank, and Healer all tried to tell them, they just ignored us! Going into the final boss, they did at least start using Heavy Thrust, but beyond that, still nothing but TTT.

I just...I just don't get it. How can someone get to level 60 and just have no idea how to play the job they're using at all?

I've been grinding summoner these past few weeks between work and grinding "Yokai Watch". I've got two light-hearted DUTY stories.

The first was on a leveling roulette into Brayflox's Longstop. Apparently the party fell apart before they even started and I was joining a fellow DPS (MNK or NIN iirc) with an AST joining less than a minute after me. The run had basically fallen apart before it could begin. Tank took a while to get recruited so we started without him... meaning I got to use Titan-egi. We actually took down the first mini-boss that way. AST said it was a pain to target Titan for heals between DPSing. Tank showed up and had to wait outside. I chuckled at the irony a little bit.

Second one happened in The Stone Vigil. Isgebind took to the air with only a sliver of health and I had so many DoTs on him that he died before he could do more than mark his AOE target areas. Took us a moment to realize what happened. We all had a good laugh and I got full commendations.

Let's engrave this experience before it's forgotten:

Halatali HM: WAR, AST (me), DRG (first timer) and MNK

We were waiting for the cutscene to finish, since DRG was there first time, as soon as the circle drops, tank runs off. No 'Hi', no 'big pull', did not wait for protect and sprinted to grab everything, like "gotta go fast".
I run after them try to heal but they drop like a fly.
2nd attempt, I was kinda expecting them to go a tiny bit slower now, nope! Ludicrous speed ahead (at least I could cast protect this time)! Sprinting until the gate, one aspected benefic during the run since they were already going low on HP and I had about 6 mobs eating my face, I died, tank died, 2nd wipe. Turns out the tank doesn't know how to do a proper pull so the mobs don't jump on anyone who even sneezes in their direction...
3rd attempt, I don't even bother anymore. Tank runs off alone, pulls a few mobs, dies. .-.

Replaced them with a friend, had a nice run.
Go figure.

Had a ARF run last night, me tanking, whm, blm & bard.

Did the first pull with 8 mobs or so, noticed the bard didn't foe. Went on to the second big pull, no foe. The whm was great and was in cleric stance most of the time so the bard should really have foe up.
After that I said in the auto translate (Foe requim)(Please use it)
Blm: "She knows when to use it"
Ok I thought and carried on.
Had to keep saying it over and over -_-

Clearly she didnt know when to use it. Didnt use Battle Voice either...
What I found more shocking is that the blm and brd must have been friends or something, with that duo you'd think the blm would want foe up...

Had a real piece of S**t AST

Was levelling WAR, doing Haukke Manor, get past the mobs fine, AST isn't healing as much as I'd like, figure he must not be terribly familiar with the job, no biggie.

Get to the first boss....
...No heals. AT ALL. I die, both DPS die, when we get back, AST is jumping around the place throwing a little bit of damage out and healing himself.

Tfw the AST deliberately withheld heals just to try and solo the boss.
He was promptly kicked, but after 20 minutes of waiting for a new healer, we gave up and abandoned.

We were in The Vault. SICKNESS MUST BE PURGED! THIS SHALL BE A MERCY!!!

But anyways :P

We had a tank who kept on dying at every boss. I knew it wasn't a healer issue, he was doing a great job. I did a quick glance at the tank's armor.

Lvl 50 Realm Reborn Gear (not the high end level 50 gear. It was his storyquest gear he was wearing. His sword and shield was also 50

I explained to him that he may wanna invest some time in upgrading his gear because dungeons will keep killing him....especially with an ilvl45 when everyone else was 140-145

Not sure how he managed to get through the other dungeons at this point.

I know this sounds crazy...but i kinda wish they had some kind of minimum requirements on dungeons from 50-59

That blows my mind when someone doesnt know their rotation by lvl 60....how did they get to lvl 60?

Dragoon's rotation isnt that bad or hard at all to figure out. Did he even use Blood of the dragon?

With the MQ (and some sidequests) handing out HQ-gear sets for all classes and the ARR-storyquests towards the end throwing ironworks at you, I dont think that sounds crazy at all...

I had a DRG ( Tam Tara Hm) who musta been a role player from Balmung( Joking, was on primal servers) he would only use and attacks that was jump related <.< then he faked being his father and said we made him cry when we tried to tell him the proper rotations.

On that subject, about people playing as if they either bought the account or had a 5-year-old playing it...
Did PotD again, this time with bf, and on two of the floor sets we had the same matched party, a mnk with his whm. I'm not sure if the whm was 50 or 60, didn't look at her enough to see if she had WoD gear or WC. But let's just say she was at least 50. Never spoke, her mnk did all the talking (he said he was glad that we got matched with him again since their last party killed them) and he played normal. But her... she constantly was running recklessy into the rooms, face aggroing everything and died like 4 times when we couldn't take all the mobs off her. And she just kept running. Then for heals, she would medica (not even medica2), no esuna for debuffs, no cleric stance, and ruin...(ruin???) sometimes aero. That's all she casted, medica, aero, ruin. And never cleric.
Last time she died I asked the mnk why she was always running into the rooms like that and she stopped doing it. Bought account? Idk, the mnk's 8 year-old playing? Maybe.
Oh yeah, I highly doubt their party killed them, imo that whm killed them all >_> Once we cleared (not thanks to her I will say), and before we continued, bf and I had a ciggy in hopes to give them time to match with another party rather than us :(

Nope, never. Even after I and the others in the party told them, the only adjustment they made by the end of the dungeon was occasionally using Heavy Thrust.

Signed up for a lv 50 dungeon on roulette.
I think there are some POTD babies out there... One which i kinda grouped up with
They run to the (real) dungeon elevator while watching the tank and 1 DD hack at the mobs
Just run ahead, ... and watching, like bumps on a log. (like how you wait for pple in potd)
Waiting for us to finish and kill it.

It seemed they expected me to do a speed run, which, ok i indulged them, figured they must know it to want it.

Died horribly to the first boss.
The ones who wanted the speed run, did not know anything.
Since ffxiv started, ive left instances less than 10x before finishing, unless i DC.
I left this PT >.> too scary for me.

its quite easy to not know much at lv 60 nowadays. Compared to before when we did not have any roulette, and now POTD, leveling is a wizz
Sometimes i wish they would tone down the exp in roulette.

Having a lot of fun reading this thread, thought it's time to share mine:
- I've been getting paired with this tank from another server for Expert DF and occasionally the lvl 60 DF. After a while, I noted that he wasn't too good at keeping group aggro while having equivalent ilevel gear; he always loses aggro on 1-2 mobs (mostly small groups) when we were AOE-ing stuff down (have to pop Quelling Strike when I was maging or aggro transfer when I NIN); no big issue for me since normally no one dies. But the one time I got paired with him in Anti-tower and I was in smn mode.... he decided to do laps around the last boss for some weird reason and kept attacking the boss from everywhere but the front during braces..... can't remember how we eventually clear that boss but I have to repositioning my Garuda during braces to ensure she is dealing damage and for contagion to go through.

- Low level roulette as a healer. Silent GLD/PLD that pop sprint as long as it is up, even the sprout Rouge gave up goading him. At the slime boss, he ignore bomb so I decided to aoe heal to gain heal aggro and pull the bomb to the slime. He got hit by the bomb too.

- For the good stuff, during Gordian era and when I was still raiding, me and 3 of my raid team mates (2x blm and 1xwhm combo) enter expert df (neverreap iirc) and got paired with a Gordian-cleared WAR. He informed us that he will be mass-pulling and did so in dps stance. He kept aggro all the way, the 3 mages went nuts with aoe while keeping our aggro in check and finished it in record time. The war even compliment us with the auto-translate equivalent "High Quality Party". Have never encountered such a crazy df-run before and again lol

Just had a run through Lost City of Amdapor HM as a BLM. The WAR had 34k hp, so I figured they probably knew what they were doing, and quelling strikes wouldn't be needed. Things were going smoothly for the first two bosses (due to me holding my opener because of mechanics, I guess). There was an incident with that first dragon before the second boss, where I pulled aggro (and the tank called me stupid), but I passed that off as him not having established hate yet, so I pop quelling and let him get it back.

So, then we get to Kuribu. He pulls early whilst I am still entering the arena (as he's done for all the bosses). I immediately begin to set up for my opener (because Kuribu has no mechanics that interrupt it)... and suddenly I find that Kuribu's flying over to me after doing Cure IV. Tank then proceeds to sit there doing nothing for half the fight (other than saying "really stupid" and "use brain") leaving me to tank it until the final phase (I guess he was hoping I would die), where he finally provoked, and at which point I switch to blizzard mid-rotation and pop quelling at full MP to minimize aggro; I'm still just below him in enmity for the rest of the fight.
How was I supposed to know a WAR with 34k HP needed help with aggro? Party agreed with me afterwards, but the WAR had already left...

Kudos to the WHM who kept me alive through that. Earned my comm.

I just ran Sohr Khai, and I got dismissed for accidentally messing up one mechanic. I'm still learning my new job.. it also didn't help that the warrior kept yelling at me, and calling me names. This was the second warrior with a nasty attitude in a row. What is it with warriors these days? I'm not saying all of you are bad, but just because you're good at your job, or you can survive well by yourself for periods of time, doesn't mean you can treat other people like dirt.

I'm gonna guess she usually plays SMN - only because it confused the hell outta me the first time my bf was playing CNJ and healing for me and also used ruin :P he mains SMN and it was the first thing he cross-classed. Still not entirely sure why :s

Sometimes you just gotta get away from the screen and have a cig, happened to me over the weekend, levelling my DRK using PoTD and got kicked out twice due to the internet failing, when I managed to get back in it told me I had to start floors 41 - 50 all over again... :'( safe to say after 3 attempts and getting to edda once then like floor 46 each time I gave up for the day... stupid internet, day before maintenance too! >.<

I've been tempted to do this. Mostly because it's instant cast, and can be used while moving/running. If you're used to it, having to stand still for Stone is a real chore.
