Again, just because they don't spend the majority of their gameplay singing doesn't deny them the status of bard. Bards have to know how to fight on some level, either as bowmen in this game, as rogues in the plethora of works that created and continued to inspire the concept of the bard, as would-be barbarians, or even as covert assassins.

This being said, the aspects go hand in hand the way the job is currently designed. That's not a bad thing in the long run.

Bards are one of those things that are beyond the singular concept of the Dragoon. Bards are open to interpretation, even within Final Fantasy, just like Paladins are. Squaresoft was well within their rights to interpret paladins as face-melting knights wielding Holy Swordskills in FFTactics. They have as much right to interpret the Bard more along the lines of the classic Bard in this game.

The purpose of titling something is to say "this is its main thing" if you title it "musketeer/corsair (w.e they are called..)" but 90% of the time he is using a staff, I'm going to say "Uh.. SE... WTF?"

Bard, I want the majority to have to do with being a bard, otherwise just don't bother calling it a bard.

Part of the problem is that archer doesn't speak bard like gladiator speaks paladin or thamaturge speaks black mage. So the class isn't really the best choice for bard to be linked to. Really they should have went ranger or something. And then made a lead up class to bard called something else.

I agree with people in FFXIV that in FFXI not being able to do damage was pretty sucky, but please do damage with your bard-esque stuff...

Just more job skills would be a doubtful fix. The emphasis wouldn't change. I'd really like to see the knot between archer and bard untied and replaced in another class which follows a lyrical poetic suit.

More job skills for other jobs would be -great- but when the class isnt bard like which is the 'base' of each job then you wont ever have the emphasis appropriated appropriately.

Like Samurai in FFXI you could use a bow but your 99.9% of the time weapon was a Katana. Thats more of what I'm talking about. And Samurai wasnt screwed because he didnt use the bow a lot - it just came in handy sometimes. I dont mind a bard able to use a bow but it really shouldnt be the bards focus.

We have 3 DoL, 7 DoW amd DoM with 7 jobs and and and 8th on the way, and about 8 crafting jobs.

Even if you didnt count the classes that's 19 different style of play. 19 things to level to 50.

If you were just count the classes you fight with its 8 things to level to 50, which could result in up to16 different styles of play depending on the changes in ARR. (Arcanist to summoner tactics for example.)

Yeah...but in XI if you counted the crafting skills as jobs (which XIV basically does)....

Or if you didn't count the crafting classes on XIV, to be more like XI...it takes some of those XIV job numbers down...the crafting jobs are like half of those things to level to 50.

Well from the videos they have shown us this far, we are seeing some additions of abilities. For example, Conjurer can now cast Water spell and Dragoon has some new flip attack thing. I wonder if they gave classes and jobs more abilities overall, or swapped obsolete ones for new ones.

If the former is true, perhaps we'll see more job specific abilities to better distinguish a class and a job. Perhaps we can get some insight during alpha / beta to better determine the direction the classes and jobs will go.

That would be a welcome addition to the system. I hear from an aunt, who's buddy's cousin's wife's daughter who got into the alpha said so far its wonderful battle wise. I'm most interested in the class/job direction!~ :)
