People still listen to IGN? I find them to be nothing but horrible excuses for journalists, that only give good reviews to the companies that shell out the most cash.
People still read IGN? In recent years the reviews on IGN have been hideous. People have also speculated that they give better ratings to games that pay for ad space.
A review that compares one game to another is biased. Each game is different and certainly people like some games more then others. An RPG is like reading a fantasy novel not all appeal to peoples.
While there are probably more people that have disliked FFXIV more so then other iterations of FF there is also quite a cult following that enjoy the release of FFXIV and it's current iteration. Sorry it's not your cup of tea IGN but you can't judge what takes many years to play out based on a few hours of play.
There is also a large base that believe and can be evidenced by the coverage and response to FFXIV that since Square Enix snubbed buying ad space for the game the reviewers gave it lil' attention and rated it poorly based on that.
I give a perfect example, I bought AMY for PSN, it is a nice game, but hard!
I read IGN's review, and they used the word garbage so many times -.- but I played it and all their complaints did not exsist with me (commands not working or collision detection problems)
Now to be fare, I had to update with a 19MB patch when I bought it, the game has only been out for a little over a week & 1/2, that would have fixed some of said problems......
but so far I am loving the game, even with the high difficulty.
They gave the game a 2/10 ....really?
I will agree there are some things that are bad (voice acting for one) but other then that it is a good game.
whats sad is the reviewers personal taste in games always comes to the surface
i had a major issue for instance with the review of red dead redemption that game informer did, for those who played the game, imagine a review telling you that you went to mexico in that game for no reason, and that it didnt make sense cuz it had no connection to the main revenge story. of course they also went on to badmouth it for a full page....only to give it like a 9.5/10 lol
make sense of that!
This game is on easy mode right now. There are no pop hierarchies like sea or sky pop items and there never will be. MMOs have to be easy right now to attract people. Most servers are full of very young, very unskilled, very undisciplined players. It has to be easy.
At the same time, most average players can't even beat Moogle. Some still struggle with Ifrit.
This game is caught in the middle. The majority of players want to mash one button and get giant treasure chests whenever they want without fear of death. The few of us still serious about MMOs and are old farts want long drawn-out pop hierarchies like having to farm all of the chambers in Einherjar for one single chance to fight Odin maybe once a month. FFXIV is in the middle because of that, and it pushes away both sides.
2.0 needs content for both or to just pick one, if it wants to succeed.
The end.
