I'm not sure what you mean. I simply pointed out that under the current system the only way to get an immediate return on the value of your home is to sell it to another player, otherwise you have to wait 45 days for the auto-demolish. As the system currently stands players are forced to sell to another player if they don't want to lose gil. I was pointing out that if SE wants to make selling property against the ToS then they should give us a means to get 100% of the invested gil back when we relinquish land. After that I'm fine with them enforcing the rules and banning players that sell them. Until then, though, it's unfair to punish players for doing something that their system encourages.

Couple it with a limit of one private estate per account and you'd quickly sort most of the current problems with players monopolizing the market.

FYI: More wards becoming available won't fix anything as these same players will just rush them and buy everything...

According to Yoshi P himself it was originally intended for us to be able to buy, sell and give away houses so I don't understand how it could be against ToS.

A: Yes, it will be possible. They can also be traded. Just as an example, you could give a house to that special someone in your free company as a present.

This, this, this. I'm not sure why people are thinking more housing wards are going to remarkably fix everything. The same thing is going to happen with the new ones as well. New wards are nothing a short term fix - not even a bandaid.

Belated edit: That being said, if there is a 45 day limit on even the private housing rooms, I'm not going to bother. That would be just absurd, there's no reason for that other than holding your account hostage for a monthly sub fee.

Outside of the abandon you must remember that houses DO come available relatively frequently for some reason as well, even more so since we have relinquish.

This is all pre-relinquish...

I wanted a med house, I camped the wards and within 3 days was able to buy one in a beautiful spot that was secluded mostly from the rest of the ward like I wanted and still near a marketboard.

My roomie took notice and decided to do the same, within 3 days he had a house in beds.

Another friend of ours did the same and had a house in 4 days, another had one within a week.

None of us bought a house off of another player, they were just simply open plots on a server that supposedly never had any open plots. We didn't watch too carefully. I would stop into town and check the aetheryte while I waited on queue or between checking our airships and going out to harvest, when I first logged in and before I logged out. I think I averaged a single check about once an hour and I only play a few hours a day. So they are out there, you just need to watch for them instead of assuming there are never any available ever. With reclamation in effect, they can only increase in frequency.

Sure one open spot I could take luck into account for but 4 within a couple weeks? And that is only the ones we saw since we all stopped looking after and some could have been bought in the 20 hours a day we are not in game. So keep your chin up and just check those wards.

This would not be an issue if Square did something along the lines of making houses per account server, meaning any subsequent alts on the same server could not purchase a house, but would have free access to your existing one. If you made a new character elsewhere, you could buy a new one there. For those wishing to sell or upgrade, the cost should simply be fully refunded, similar to how allagan gold always gives a set price.

Also, where is the full "tosh" (I assume you mean ToS)? Google didn't give me anything beyond the original, which was last updated before housing was a thing.

Don't expect an answer any time soon on this unless the GM's in game get it together and get it sorted out. The timing of this whole mess was very unfortunate. The great housing dilemma of 2015 right when the team has vacation. Lol

It is indeed a slippery slope that needs to be tread with caution.


what it comes down to is options. Having a digital house isn't that big to me, my rl one is by far more important and I would be more than willing to give mine up even for 0 profit and wait til the next round of wards, I would just want back what I put in, which I feel is a reasonable request and should be something I can do. However I don't because I would not want to trade all that gil (I paid almost 40m for my house) due to fear I would be flagged as rmt and someone should not have to pay double to give me my gil back and then have to still buy the plot.

I think I should have the option to not relinquish but resell. The house would go back on the market at full price, have standard devaluations down to 80%, I would not have access to it anymore, it appears and sells like an empty plot and then I could get the gil the person paid for it from the housing merchant. Easy peasy. This would also make selling and changing wards or sizes much easier and more fair to everyone. Sure you could still sell for a relinquish fee but it would make houses come available at a much higher frequency.

Everybody knows that this strategy NEVER works for anything.

In real life, companies with shady practices and even after taking illegal actions can still thrive because people, as a whole, aren't willing to make a sacrifice for the better. Two prime examples related to gaming and FF14:

Early Access, which everybody seems to hate, yet everybody still buys it for their hyped game.

Retainers in FF14, which everybody *should hate* and if Square didn't get money from them, they would probably change their direction, but many people still buy them.

Forget the whole "just don't buy them" thing. People as a group do not care.

We already know the deed/permit can be bought and traded. We're talking about the plot of land or the actual house itself. This whole system is flawed.
