You only get 1 per 18 hours. Most of those maps go to the mb, and people buy them and sell the loot they get from them.
They do this as DoW/DoM. Gatherers themselves cant do these, unless they also have a level 60 DoW/DoM. Its easier for full time ''pvers'' to be able to get the amount of people required to do them as well.
A million gold? I think you have your numbers mixed up a bit with FFXIV. I dont think anyone ever made that much gold from dungeons spamming. If only because gold caps at 999,999.
Complains that only crafters make gil and that DoW/M have limited options, then talks about how they have 12 million gil.
... What?
These are all items that can be bought directly from the NPC, so it's a fixed cost per item/turn-in. You don't have to depend on any crafter, nor prepare any materials. You buy them straight from the NPC, head to the leve counter and hand them in. Only downside is, this will consume more leves than handing in HQ items. But leves are free, you can just do them slowly at your own pace.
Each column is 2 levels. Take Carpenter for example, Mythrite Trident is a level 50 leve hand in, it will take 17 (round up from 16.29) to get to level 52 where you unlock the next tier of leves. Then you move onto Cedar Fishing Rod until 54. Then Hallowed Chestnut Composite Bow to 58 and so on. Total needed is of course the total exp needed divided by exp you gain per turn in. I rounded up the total needed so you are going to have a bit of extra exp for the next tier, which you will probably end up needing slightly fewer items than what I have written down at the end.
You will notice that Goldsmith is blank from 54 and on, because the items required by the leves cannot be bought from NPC. Leatherworker is blank from 50-52 because at the time I created the spreadsheet my LW was already at 52, but at least one of them items needed by the 50 leves can be bought from NPC.
Weaver item for 58-60 is not feasible, so I had Chimerical Felt instead, which you will have to either make or buy off the MB. If you take the time to prepare the mats you can easily make them yourself at 58 and probably HQ at a decent rate, plus you will get a hefty amount of exp from making them. The calculation for total Chimerical Felt needed is based on HQ, so if NQ you need double the amount to get from 58-60.
If I remember correctly, there is an item required by the leves available from the NPC for 58-60 Weaver, but it's a triple turn in quest. The amount of gil it would have cost was too high for my taste, so I decided making the Chimerical Felt would be better.
Here is another screenshot with the level range, which I forgot to include. http://gyazo.com/a07c4f43b8ee679a70913b97e4fb57cf
Time is gil. Crafting and gathering takes quite a bit of time and patience, plus there's supply and demand.
Try to undertake a crafting and gathering job if you don't want to rely on the MB. I already made a decent amount as a gatherer, you just need to look at what's trending on the MB. Plus like what another poster said, you can do it not to just earn gil but also to be self-sufficient.
What helps drive the prices up? The attitude of instant gratification from buyers eager to grab an expensive item instead of taking the time to learn.
during 1.0 craftin have only cost you gil if you did them outside of leves (8 leves every 36 hours). You went to the quest giver of the leve (in the city or over 3000 yalm away in another camp), spoke to him, got the materials from him (as key items) and then you started the leve to craft. No cost was involved, only rewards.
the only thing i hate about gathering is the hidden items like titanium ore where i have to go to several nodes to get i wish it appeared on every node
