To be honest if this happens just instruct the tank to pull the least amount of mobs until they remember what an aoe is.
Ive had this recently at level 70 where i was monk doing all the aoe dps while the bard would only focus single target.Tank was pulling usually 6+ trash.

Rabanastre is hell and I cry every time I'm foolish enough to queue for it. Had three runs today that were of particular note, and each reminded me severely of why I never go into this instance without friends. First time was decent except that during Mateus my screen legit went black with the exception of my UI elements for half the fight - with the second half thankfully being visible but dominated by my character running in place and acting as if they were DCing when my connection was fine. I got my drop though, so all in all not much to note other than the graphics issues that still perplex me.

Second run went pear shaped very quickly with people ignoring Mateus' instant death mechanics and a MT who absolutely could not keep hate to save their life. Wipes aplenty, with one particular other tank leading the salt brigade in chat. Of course, it should be noted that said tank also never picked up the boss when the MT lost aggro and legitimately allowed it to run around killing healers and DPS during Hashbrowns before it finally cleaved the party. Which resulted in, you guessed it, more salt about how bad the rest of us were. Thankfully since people were leaving left right and center I didn't have to bite the penalty, but I wasn't going to stay in that instance.

Third run's the charm right? Right? No, it very nearly went as bad as the second one except for the fact that we didn't wipe to Mateus and our MT was fairly decent. The rest of his party and the second alliance however, were not. My cohealer and I basically had raise constantly casting during Hashbrowns to help the other parties up and each new phase brought a new wave of death that left my MP thread bare. But we cleared it first time and though I died due to avoidable damage at the end I was happy for it just to be over. Of course the salt brigade came a knocking again because when said deaths were pointed out, several of the worst offenders (one of which was near constantly being raised as I counted four instances they were dead when I could pay attention) got very flustered and snarky in chat. The rest of the run was fairly standard, but I'll be the first to admit that I felt warm within my heart every time those people died going forward.

What is it about this raid?

Sadly, this is very common.

The other day we were doing level roulettes with my friends. DRK+AST+DRG. We got another DRG. The guy didn't use a single AoE move even though the tank was mass pulling. I asked them to do it twice. No response. His TP was sitting at almost full, he was single targetting everything. I really don't know why I didn't kick them.

Nothing irritates me more than the zero response. I'd rather have someone tell me to GFM, at least I got your attention.

Conversely, I have had people tell me that "theres only 3 enemies, why are you AoEing"...

I tend to almost let them die when they decide to pull for me(or not use Diversion/Lucid/any enmity reduction during a pull). Never let them die, just get really close(it's usually in a big pull on my DRK, so I've got a lot of self sustaining that can be done)

I haven't the faintest idea why some of them do that, and I basically main RDM. Dunno if it's because they think having Vercure makes some difference or not, but I never try to pull mobs before the tank, particularly because I don't feel stupid enough to risk getting myself killed in the attempt. Thankfully, I don't really see any fellow DPS players try to make any pulls either (other RDMs included), so hopefully it's not that prevalent a trend.

I don't think you're being elitist just wanting people to AoE on a large pull. The whole point of the dps being there is to reduce the run time.

The big issue with single target in an AoE scenario goes beyond low dps, it's the fact that the DPS they are doing typically has no value. If a PLD, WHM, and RDM can down a large group in 2 mins by themselves, adding a single target SAM on a few mobs during that 2 mins won't reduce that fight time at all. It would go just as fast if the SAM wasn't there. If that SAM uses just 1 AoE attack, the fight time might be reduced by 1 GCD i.e. the SAM could contribute more with a single AoE attack than 2 full minutes of single target.

Had a Shisui yesterday with another melee dps that refused to AoE, I even had Goad ready to help out if they did. Nope. Also they wouldn't toss me Goad when I had already used Invigorate on top of not even say hi or bye :/ no commendation for them

It just feels wrong to not AoE on packs

I don't really have a specific instance for this, it just happens all the time.

So I admit, I'm not the greatest tank. Once-upon-a-time I wouldn't do a single dungeon without full FC and I was a nervous wreck, doing single pulls, maaaaybe a double pull if I was feeling confident LOL. I got more comfortable with it over time (always double or triple pulls now, depending on the healer), but like, I keep getting DPS that start going ham on mobs while I'm still mid-pull. I've got no choice but to stop and get them back (which results in me being forced back to single pulls once again), or carry on to the next mob and hope they're sturdy enough to survive the mob while they bring them to me.

Isn't it kind of standard not to touch anything until tank stops? I know there are better tanks out there that can probably handle this no problem, but for me who avoids intentionally making the tank's life harder when I DPS, it's just annoying seeing someone else derp away when I'm the one trying to tank it. XP

Let them tank it if they will do that mid pull. Majority of the time, especially in the EX roulettes, there are walls that prevent going further. Most people know that is how big the pulls are going to be. It's their own fault(especially if they stay back and make you run to them in order to get that mob off them) for taking it during those runs. As I said above, I don't let them die(unless they are going to make me run a stupid distance to get it because it's out of Provoke range), but I let them tank it for a little while.
